eh, the hell with house productivity today. I moved the laptop outside to sit in the sun. I'll be scrolling LinkedIn, etc and hopefully throwing in some applications. today wasn't supposed to be sunny here, so this is bonus time and Vitamin D.

I need to get moving, also. my newspaper actually was delivered this morning (late), so I'm still sitting here with the magazine and the crossword puzzle. pups are out cold bc I've been a slug.
I need to shower, and fold a couple loads of laundry. there's not much else on tap for today TBH. the four active Boston major sports teams all played yesterday (3W, 1L) so there's nothing I really want to watch today. I'll find hockey later for background noise, I think. maybe the Sox? idk.

I'm making a chicken sandwich at 8:45 am. It sounded good and the Walmart brand chicken patties in the blue bag taste just like a McChicken. Just in case anyone was wondering. I like their spicy ones, but they are hard to find lately. I chop one into a big salad.

This is the only reason I know what DAR means 😂 And I have no idea what that photo means So, I already knew what DAR was. but this pic looks like Kelly Bishop at tea. *KB was Mrs Houseman in Dirty Dancing, with MANY other credits along the way.

this. I had a short pipe from my sump in the last house, and then after the basement flooded in the big ice storm in 2017 and I lost power (thereby making the sump useless...)......when the power came back on and the sump was working overtime, it ended up creating a pond right next to the house where the pipe ended. mooch ended up extending the PVC pipe to the low point in the corner of the yard, under the fence. **make sure when/if you do extend your pipe, that you check the slopes to make sure it all drains out. It isn't short, it goes about 25 feet away from the house, but at the end of the pvc pipe (which is buried) there's a vertical cylinder that the pipe feeds into with a grate on top and the water comes out of that (they call it a "bubbler"). Well, that thing is always full of water and until I dug a little trench the grate was under standing water too. That part is going to freeze FOR SURE. It's basically like having a coffee can sized container of water just below the surface.
I'm not sure I'm explaining this well. I should go take pictures.
I've never seen that residentially around here, but have seen it in new sites I've been involved with commissioning. I followed your explanation 🙂 I guess my question is, does the water have enough room to expand when it freezes, in the pathway that's there? if it freezes, you can chip it to make room for more if need be. but if it's gonna expand with no room and crack the hardware that's there, that will be a bigger mess.

I'm feeling very torn on all this basement waterproofing. I finally have a sump after 24 years without one, but my basement is trashed and some things are going to be difficult to fix. I can deal with that, but what I'm really not liking is the discharge line setup outside. It is most certainly going to freeze up in the winter looking at how it's working now and there is no easy way I can bypass it how it is now. Not something that is going to be an issue for awhile, but just a new stressor on my plate when I'm already feeling overwhelmed. We had a very wet year with Mom's basement going into winter one year. We built a frame for the sump pump discharge hose to rest in at a pretty good angle so that the water could not pool inside the hose and freeze. The other option we thought of was a pvc pipe with a heat tape connected to the discharge. Mostly you just have to set up the discharge so the water pumps out the hose and drains completely leaving no water in the hose to freeze.

Pretty sure I'm going to burn in the afterlife. Sitting in a committee meeting and someone actually said, "you should listen to me, I'm a member of the DAR." I texted my buddy across the room and asked if that meant Dumb As Rocks and she had to fake a coughing spell for cover. Seriously, who says stupid stuff like that? people that think that qualifies them for anything simply because of who their ancestors are. sadly there's a lot of idiots like this out there.

well, I think I'm finally getting the luggage out of my dining room today. last load of clothes just went in the washer, and I'm about to upend the roller case. the first of four hockey games today has just started, and that's going to be background noise the rest of the day. I may go sit outside to watch some of it, idk. I should really get moving and be more productive. I got sucked into some Investigation Discovery episodes earlier.

well, nobody woke me up for food last night, so I slept again til almost 2. farted around on my phone for a couple hours and dozed off again for another couple more. I'm currently enjoying a cup of coffee while I listen to the news about an encampment of Israel/Gaza protestors on my college's campus is being broken up this morning.
on tap for today are a Home Depot/McDonald's drive-thru run (with an extra hash brown for the pups!) and then some major cleaning. today I will either fix the damn vacuum cleaner and use it, or finally decide I need a new one.

my body decided I needed a nap earlier, so I climbed into bed for a little while. well, I woke up around 730 thinking it was morning, and checking my phone to see why the alarm hadn't gone off. 🤦♀️ neither pup rustled when I got up to pee, so I climbed back into bed. I think, unless one of them declares otherwise later on, that I'm in bed for the night. we can all do a big breakfast in the am.

We're okay. The worst is over for the moment. Wilbur did not like being downstairs. He was freaking out pretty bad. No damage to our house and we still have power. It took out Eppley airfield and 35th and Broadway. took out Eppley Airfield..? 😯

Hubs and I were so used to living alone, these breaks we get from each other are likely very welcome to both of us. I'm bad but I was excited for him to go, not that daily cooking thing. DD and I have had a lot of fish this week, catfish, and cod, both so good. I just put a couple of fillets in the microwave to thaw. It's not on, I just have to put them in there to keep the cats from playing bat a steak. Don't really want them with claw marks through the wrapping, with the same claws they scratch the potty with, yuck. Hubs just called and so far the plane is a half hour late, the toilet wasn't working. that's a delay worth waiting for, better than figuring it out in the air.

well, the hammer dropped a little yesterday, re: RTO. my boss heard back from the HR rep that was travelling when his first flare went out. apparently, I'll have until X date (still TBD) to comply or I'll get a written warning. boss confirmed this is internal and wouldn't affect any future reference checks, that's nice. that said, I also told him I'd figure it out if push comes to shove and I have to, but to be on notice that my productivity is going to take a hit as I'll be sitting on the fucking highway during my most productive time of day. I can request a meeting with HR, which I will be, and where I'll be politely and professionally blunt as I ask what the end goal is of RTO. b/c X, Y, Z that I've already explained here show that there is zero need for me to be in person for the job I perform. guess I'll be applying for everything that sounds good this weekend, and see what sticks. that's how I ended up here this time, trying to GTFO of that train wreck place. could be a good thing? I'm sorry. Like I said before, it seems like a good day for a virtual cocktail hour. oh, I poured one when I got back home from a walk with the goobers - the first in probably a month. I busted my ankle, then the landscapers were here all days, and then vacation. today's walk was all about sniffing ALL of the sniffs more so than walking, but that's okay. we're gonna be walking again now that I'm home. oh look, it's time for a refill! lol...

last night ended up being Kraft dinner. finally making risotto tonight - spinach/cremini/pancetta. I just put the IP under pressure, so I'll be eating soon. I'm also cooking off two family packs of ground beef (80/20) and wilted chopped kale for the pups. I'll have a bunch of leftovers for the weekend, which is nice. I figured out at least one BSCB from the package - there will be chicken Lombardy this week. creminis were on sale, so I grabbed two packages. I set aside the huge ones as I wiped down some to chop for the risotto tonight. the huge ones will get stuffed at some point with a chicken sausage stuffing, topped with sliced provolone and baked off. I'll use the rest of the smaller ones with the chicken Lombardy.

I loaned DH some of my IcyHot gel to try and he found it helpful (leftover knee pain from jumping rope on concrete floor again) so after breakfast we stopped at CVS. They didn't have my kind (2.5% menthol, vanishing scent gel) but he got a tube of 4% lidocaine, 1% menthol cream. I ordered a couple of tubes of my stuff from Amazon when we got home. For those of us who don't take oral pain killers like Tylenol or Aleve, it's surprisingly effective. Author came by with a DVD player as expected and we'll try to set it up this weekend. He also brought about 8 handwritten chapters. Two were new material which I typed up, printed out and attached a note on where I recommended he insert them in the finished book. The rest already appear in the book in one place or another, but his memory is such that he can't see that so I typed them up AGAIN, printed out the chapters where the material already appears, highlighted those passages and fastened new and old versions together which my recommendation. It's so hard to see him struggle in that way. IcyHot is magical. glad you found more.

today's shaping up to be a productive one. my head is screwed on straight, and I'm ready to go. pups are at daycare, and the laundry is already cranking. 2nd load is in the washer, both sets of guest sheets so far. next in line are all the towels and cruise laundry. sheets and towels are easy enough to just throw in a pile and fold/roll later. I'd like to be fully unpacked before going to pick the pups up this afternoon.
there's not too many calls in my calendar for today, so I'm hoping to get through last week's stuff in my inbox. in theory, anything super urgent got forwarded to my boss, and he'd have included me in his response.

Good morning, observant invisipeeps with problematic or unusual family and coworkers ruffling the peace of your days. Welcome to Thursday. I hope you find a burst of energy today to pursue something that you love to do and end with a truly awesome dessert or beverage. And that nothing spots your lawn with yellow. Today I'm going to pack up the pictures DD wired for display and try again to remove the screws holding in the last drawer pull in the kitchen. If I could figure out how, I'd cut it out. It's very frustrating. Yesterday I brought DH to urgent care for his shoulder/back, but the wait to see someone was 2+ hours so we left. Going to try early this morning again, then bring Franklin the Dog to get groomed. He insists that he can help set up the show on Saturday but I don't see how unless he is on groovy meds. The sun shone yesterday. It's colder today, but I think the sunrise will be similar. Here is yesterday's sun rising, lighting a path in the water: not sure where you went yesterday, but there's rarely a wait at the Southcoast UC in the big shopping plaza where the highways meet near me. hopefully you have better luck today.

She sounds like a real piece of work. Let's put it this way: I am not trading one of my sisters in for her. Not in this universe or any other. lmfao! I don't answer her most of the time, TBH. but I cut her short last night as the airport bus arrived, so I figured I'd answer this afternoon as I was closing up shop. usually I can click my shit out and let her pratter, but not today. 🤦♀️ and I feel the need to point out that we are on p2167, which is the last 4 digits of the phone number at the house my parents sold during covid in order to move into the hotel. random milestone, woot! 🤣🙃😎

I definitely just hung up on my sister. in the middle of her yelling at me because I wasn't 100% listening to her when she called while I was still working, I had the nerve to tell her I needed to take another call from my landscaper. and then I was the idiot that called her back, where she picked up where she left off and meandered her way to telling me I was an awful person for walking past the Walmart employee stationed at the exit to check receipts. bitch, please. what?? just, no.

ohhh.....raw kale is definitely not an even swap for arugula in the Milanese salad. I'd suggest a spring mix next time. you want something on the lighter side, and kale is sturdy. as far as cooking it? I finely chop heads of kale and wilt it in the same deep pan that I cook ground meats in for the pups. I stir everything together once it's all cooked. I don't eat red meat myself, but I've taken some of a turkey/kale mix for myself for tacos and it's a tasty mix.

cheers, and I wasn't online for a few days to call you out on that hahaha. glad you enjoyed it! how was the dressing from your recipe? that's different from how I make Milanese salad, and I'm curious.
as far as labor intensive and cleanup, over the years I've figured out a solid routine to streamline the breading process. there's no workaround for the frying, sadly. I use foil pans for the flour/breadcrumbs, that I buy at the dollar store for 25c apiece. the egg wash step happens in a shallow bowl, but I crack and whisk the eggs in bulk in a huge measuring cup and pour into the bowl as needed. I also glove up one hand (changing gloves as needed) and keep clean/dirty hands with the help of a fork for dragging through the egg wash. way easier than the kitchen I grew up in lol....

curious, YM - what's the ballpark on air duct cleaning pricing? I just started an online form for an estimate and it's an ugly number.

heh, 1h flight meant nothing but a quick cup of water offered. I landed at 630pm, and between baggage, bus to my car and 45min drive home....I got home at about 845pm. pups melted down, parents hit the road, and I was in bed by 9. I know I just got off an NCL cruise though, I was only finally getting hungry by lunch today after not eating since lunch yesterday on-site. so I guess the next few days will be some light eating. lol.... today's lunch adventure with the pups was a grocery run. $100 later, they will be well-stocked on stuff haha. I picked up a small package of BSCB for myself, and some veggies to add to risotto tonight. that doesn't require a lot of brainpower, just some chopping. today's been a long day already.

y'all, I found Three's Company for background noise while I click through some keystrokes. I don't even know what channel, it's streaming on the tablet. Mrs Roper always reminded me of my Nana's older sister when I was a kid, and oh man, her lines have been great so far in just the first 15min of this episode. this show is much funnier as an adult with all the jokes and innuendo that sailed over my head as a kid.
