I logged in to work for a few minutes to finish up something I just couldn't bring myself to do last night. I'm about to close this laptop down, as I'm supposed to be off today. I should probably find a quick bite to eat before heading out to LD's vet visit, my coffee is already trying to tear a hole in my stomach.

tonight, I'm making a big green salad, to be topped with the last two chicken tenders from the holiday fry bash.
as far as the rest of the leftovers - I've still got some un-sauced eggplant, but I think I'm going to just freeze that to use as a pizza topping sometime soon. I've got one portion of eggplant parmigiana and two of the veggie lasagna I made a couple days later. eggplant will get either eaten or tossed tomorrow as day 6. I'll be pushing my luck with the extra sauce for the lasagna, but whatever.

good effing lord, it's freezing out there today. it's only a 15 degree difference from yesterday, but today definitely feels like winter. woof. I ran out to the grocery store after my last call to pick up a couple things I ran out of for pup dinner tonight. and then when I got back, I stood outside with the landscapers to ask a few questions about the remaining work. I'm wearing a pretty cozy fleece today, since the door's been open for part of the day so the pups could supervise, but jeez. I need to sign off a couple things before I log off tonight, but I need to wait til my hands thaw out so I can actually do so. My car door locks won't work. It was 17 below windchill this morning and my door locks are frozen. Luckily, it's unlikely there is anyone walking around stealing from cars today...not that I have anything very valuable in there anyhow. yeah, no. there's a reason I moved to the beach. it's generally milder here (in both directions) than even an hour inland where I moved from.

I saw this last night, and didn't want to respond from my phone b/c I knew I was gonna write a novel. lol.. I listen to a pretty wide variety of music, and have no problem planning vacations around live music and the friends I've made over the years from these trips. the list is probably shorter of what I won't listen to - EDM, thrasher death metal, the hardest rap, and the auto-tuned crap they call pop these days. lol... honestly, anything that's going to be presented with strobes and laser shows is just off the table for me. there are a number of current pop artists that I respect as amazingly talented, but their stuff just isn't my jam these days. I much prefer smaller venues to see shows, rather than the huge stadium presentations. I've gone to some stadium shows of artists I knew way back when, and knew those would be my last time seeing them. I am so proud of where they have made it to, but it's not at all the same experience. (ex - Zac Brown Band) in my 20y of music cruising, I've seen everyone from 90s alternative/pop artists, current country artists, the surviving Beach Boys, Isley and Righteous Bros, up and coming indie artists, artists that have gone HUGE after their sailings like Zac Brown and Luke Combs, more 90s artists coming back out to tour again, and on and on. if I'm not home, I'm almost always plugged in to Sirius XM. The Highway, Y2Kountry, PopRocks and the 60s station are the most common. I'm a sucker for 60s British Invasion stuff, and actually went to go see Herman's Hermits by myself a few years ago as nobody local wanted to go. I'm not an artist, and would likely get arrested if I tried to sing in public but music is in my blood, in my soul. I can typically find a song or lyric for pretty much any situation, and love discovering new-to-me artists. recent favorites include the many powerful female solo country singers that have blown up and gotten more air time in recent years. Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Lainey Wilson to name a few. I love that the ladies are calling out some of the bullshit they have broken through, like Maddie and Tae's "Girl in a Country Song" for industry BS. Mickey Guyton's "Black Like Me" for general life BS. I can list more if anyone's interested I don't think I could narrow it down to any single/few favorite artists or songs. but I can certainly recommend some fantastic up-and-comers in a number of genres if anyone else wants to explore more!

I badly needed a break from the red sauce marathon. it's all tasty, but jeez lol.... tonight I made a roasted chicken/broc/russet bowl with pepper jack cheese. I diced up a small russet potato and the end of a broccoli crown I used in the weekend's veggie lasagna.
commentary that went with a pic I posted to a FB home cook group - I love a fantastic topped baked potato, but I can't usually finish a decent russet baker spud. earlier this year, I had a 5lb bag of russets (typically smaller than what you'd buy individually) and I decided to just dice one up like I was roasting tiny potatoes. let me tell you, life changing! I can better scale toppings appropriately, and not waste food. I can't believe I'd never thought to do that before.🤦♀️

This white people has had more than enough of the white people like her. I'm still baffled how an excess of melanin makes you a bad person. Same. Let me tell you, being the melanated one can suck sometimes. On the plus side, our food is well seasoned. except you're missing the heat!

y'all. I just went outside to check out progress after hanging up on my last call of the day. they aren't even close to done, and I can already tell that it's going to be amazing. they have dug down like 6" to build up to grade - the appropriate layers of stone, stone dust, and landscape fabric. I'm gonna be gushing about this all week, so I'm going to just shut up about it now lol... for those of you I'm linked to on FB, I'll put up some progress pics in the AM. they are actually still working as it's dusk now, b/c I can light up the neighborhood with the lights on the shed/back of the house.

I'm already looking forward to Wednesday, even with a vet visit for LD on the books for the morning. I might pour myself a glass of wine soon. I'm currently sitting on a call for a <major fuckup on the CMO's part> issue that's impacting a multi-million dollar lot of finished packaged product, that we've been arguing about what stability data we can and can't rely on in order to release part of the lot and ship it out. the error happened about a month ago, and we have to ship this lot by EOM for other reasons I can't explain vaguely enough for a public board. we've literally had about a dozen calls to align on things, only to have notifications come back that no, they don't agree. this is another one of those. someone shoot me, please.

this is a lot of me being all up in my head lately, too. it's def not a fun place to be. 😕 hugs, lady. Wait, I know I have been self absorbed lately, did I miss something? I am pretty sure you are unattached as far as having a SO, and you have a career, instead of just a job, AND you are younger than I am…… so what did I miss? I mean, I know you have been bucking the system about your job wanting your ass in a seat they can see, but in my mind, having a career, with the credentials you have, means you can find another job if you want or need to, or even reinvent yourself professionally, if you need to. Is that what you are referring to? I’m not trying to minimize anything, even if your job is what’s bothering you. I’m just trying to figure out what I missed, so I know how I can support and encourage you, with whatever has you in your head lately. you're entirely fine, you haven't missed anything. I've kinda ranted here and there, mostly about work recently. but this is kinda mid-life crisis sort of shit in my head lately. I didn't think I'd be living in a busted house in the woods, next to yet another fucking crazy neighbor (see also: Mr Congeniality, ~10y ago) at 45yo. I know COVID threw a wrench in this game called life, but I think the spinner may have gotten stuck for me. thanks for the hugs. ❤️

As I read recently, you're not starting over, you're starting from experience. And I have discovered that is true. When i lost what i thought was my dream job 6 yrs ago i was devastated. It had taken me over 20 years to get to that point in my career. I was picturing it taking another 20 years to get back there. That's not how it worked. I got other jobs based on my experienceand now I'm not only financially ahead of where i was, i'm emotionally and spiritually ahead. And I didn’teven know I needed that. Do you ever watch biographies of famous people? One thing I notice about them is that the rough times the person went through are always presented as something the person overcame to get where they ended up. When I'm getting down on myself, I picture how a biographer would present my story. Somehow, they turn what I think of as the biggest failures into the biggest triumphs. I would feel better if I was younger. For many years now, I have said here that I made choices based in my desire to retire asap, and that was even before my body got so wonky. Specifically, that is how I have battled my love of cars and new car fever, and kept driving my 2003 Honda instead of buying a new car. That is a BFD. It’s also why I’d stopped thinking of my house as a “starter” house and started making it my forever house. A new car until it was a necessity and a more expensive house would’ve derailed my plans to retire asap. I know I’ll have to buy another car eventually, but once I got serious about retiring asap, a big part of my plan included being mortgage free and only paying taxes and insurance after I retire. That is the only way I will be able to retire asap. I will be all kinds of unhappy if I have to keep working into my 60’s. And that is if my body even allows me to do that. A few days ago, my coworker and I saw another employee leaning on a piece of equipment just to be able to walk, and still struggling, and my coworker, who is having some serious issues with her back, said “I hope I can retire before I’m like that”. My thoughts exactly. But the truth is, that I am at risk for being exactly like that in some way, because my body is rebelling already. That truly scares me. I know that the easy answer is to just move back into my house if I have to. But that is also really complicated and I will have to spend a lot of money to make it mine again. And that’s if I can even wrap my mind around living there again, because it has come to symbolize a lot of negative stuff for me, to the point that it kind of feels like a noose around my neck, even on a good day. Trying to fix my emotions if I have to live there again, might be an even higher price to pay than the money I’d have to spend to try to fix the house and make it be somewhere I can be comfortable living again. So even though I acknowledge all the underlying emotions regarding the shit with Mister, I am also just plain angry about having to try to figure certain shit out at this point in my life.this is a lot of me being all up in my head lately, too. it's def not a fun place to be. 😕 hugs, lady.

idk, I've seen ck pot pie with biscuits. tonight, I'm reheating leftovers. veggie lasagna and eggplant parmigiana. I made the lasagna yesterday, and it's probably the best veggie lasagna I've ever made. Thursday's sauce was definitely the best since I've been in this house with propane as cooking fuel. I expect to have as difficult a re-entry into "normal" cooking conditions when I leave this house as the learning curve proved to be since I've been here.

I'm wallowing in a happy fat food coma after devouring a slice of probably the best veggie lasagna I have ever made. 🤤 I also stumbled onto My Cousin Vinny (CMT network, FYI..) and this will be my night. tomorrow is supposed to be 15-20deg warmer, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm not at all ready for winter yet. I could use some suggestions. I have lentil pasta noodles I bought on clearance from explore cuisine. Classic lasagna shape but short. Probably would use them in a 9 or 8 inch square pan instead of the traditional 13x9x2. I really don't like eggplant and haven't tried fake cheese that is riccotaish. Have used mozzarella non dairy cheese alternatives so I would have that covered. Any recipes you could post or suggestions? NO hurry but it would b good for me to clean out my pantry a little and use them up. (by year end or early new year) you probably wouldn't like a lot of my veggie recipes, I use a bunch of eggplant. I can write out what I did yesterday if you'd like, I don't really measure anything though. as far as non-dairy cheese - look for Kite Hill. it's an almond milk cheese that's available in a few formats, one being ricotta. I find it at Whole Foods. I'm not a fan of Daiya at all, Kite Hill is way better.

I'm finally sitting down for a little bit. watching the 4th quarter of a train wreck football game that I'm not sure who I'm actually rooting for. do I root for the Pats to lose, to better their draft spot next season? or root for the QB that came in at the half, to bolster the argument that the guy that Robert Kraft thinks is the next TB12 just.....isn't.....and needs to sit TF down for the rest of the season. ugh.
but this afternoon has otherwise been pretty productive. -4x64oz containers of shredded BSCB for pups, cooked in the IP. I'll freeze 3. -(?) oz container of white rice, for pups -~2lbs of broiled asparagus, chopped for pups -all bedding has been washed, spare bed has been remade. just waiting on the dryer for my stuff. -lasagna, fried eggplant and chicken have been repackaged from dishes that need to soak in soapy water -dishwasher will be started for the 2nd run today when I clean up from pup dinner. pots/pans are soaking rn.
now I'm about to log in to work and crank out a couple things I didn't feel like doing as Wednesday afternoon got later. lol...

Well it was cold out raking leaves so there are 5 bags and my reusable yard waste full of them. It started raining and is supposed to sNOw starting tomorrow morning. ugh, I'm sorry. it's supposed to rain here tomorrow, right when the landscapers are supposed to start re-doing my stone walkways in the backyard. 🤦♀️

I guess I'm kind of a hard-ass. You bring your dog to my place without an invitation, unless it's a pocket dog it gets sent to my fenced-in yard. Sucks to be you if they don't like it, but hey, my house, my rules. Why are pocket dogs acceptable and not others? The pocket dogs that are babied tend to be the worst behaved. thank you. exhibit A is the 5lb yapper next door.

Met a dog (& owner) on the way home from work today. I decided to ask, he looks like a Silky Terrier... is he? And the male owner said no. They had to get a DNA test to confirm the little guy was 100% percent Yorkie. (terrier) Please share the results. I remember how leggy and beautiful your twins were when they were young. Will you post a recent pic or two? You best believe I'll be sharing the results. I'll send a pic each to chiver since I'm old and don't know how to post pics. I'm so interested to know. Everyone asks me when they see them and I have to admit I don't know. They are pretty unique looking IMO. I also find it interesting that Macy is giving greyhound while Jackson is giving coon hound, yet they are from the same litter. I see this, and the email. I'll pull rhe laptop out in the am to share. I'm on my phone tonight.

The mystery of Elmer was solved. Found the feather pile today. Either it was a daytime coyote or the neighbors had friends over with a dog. He was right by the property line. I'm sorry 🥀

I really cannot do anything except laugh. if I didn't, I'd probably go insane. it really and truly scares me that a sizable chunk of this country is as deliberately ignorant and completely uncaring toward others as you present yourself here, all in the name of getting yours and fuck everyone else. may you have the life you deserve.

I ended up dozing off around 6am for a couple hours. that's probably my nap today. 🤷♀️.
it's in the 30s here today, so we're gonna be mostly inside. pups will just love that. 🙄 oh well. bathrooms have been cleaned, the mail shite pile has been weeded out, and. the dishwasher is running since I forgot to start it last night. I'm being ogled as I eat my breakfast sandwich, but they don't know I also cooked off a box of sausage links for them, that are cooling while I eat.
today, I'm decluttering the dining room table, that somehow collects everything so quickly. I'll probably dig out my Charlie Brown Christmas tree for the centerpiece, as it makes me smile. as does the ~1ft tall ceramic one my sister gave me when she found a regular-sized one. the tiny one is on my tall counter now, as a nod to my Nana. both my sister and I hit the roof when we found out Mom tossed Nana's without offering it up, as she was clearing out the house before selling.
