the last thing I wanted to do when I got home was get back in the car, but the pups had been cooped up 5h. so we took a scenic tour back to the old neighborhood where I picked up some deli stuff. now I'm waiting on my chicken Caesar salad from the Greek pizza place near my house. pups and I will all have dinner when we get home.
stick a fork in me, I'm done for today.

Diving deep into garlic minutiae, the intensity of garlic in a dish depends in part on the size of the garlic pieces used. Crushed or finely minced deliver the most and whole cloves, the least. For instance, I used thin slices in my shrimp Scampi so the garlic is present but not the top note. My curries generally use crushed or minced. and the best is when you roast a whole head of it, and spread the cloves on crusty bread like butter. 🤤

I dozed off downstairs last night, moving to bed around 1am. after spending most of the night tossing and turning to get comfy in the little space left to me by Punk, my alarm just scared me at 8. oops. I need to get moving, so they get moving. I neeed to leave the house by 1130 to get to my hair appointment and they are going to be home for a few hours. but first, I'm gonna play candy crush for 10min. 🤪

are you using a share site, or just your basic Shutterfly account? I had a share site where the visible username was editable to my screen name here. just curious if I'd need to open another to do the same if I can't change what is visible from the basic account. I'm just using my shutterfly account. I don't think link shows my name? Maybe it's accessible...try and let me know. I don't see anything personal, but that's only one pic. I used the share site when I wanted to share a few pics at a time. like, painting projects in the new place, or what I want to share about the stone works now.

I'm trying not to cave and turn on the space heater downstairs, but I think I'm losing that battle soon. 🥶 pups are both out cold, we've all had dinner, my leftovers are packed and in the fridge. if I turn on the space heater, I'll be comatose within the hour and then up all night once I wake back up.

I'll try, but I think I need to figure out a new way to do things. the Shutterfly share site I used to use has been discontinued by the site. I still use Shutterfly to post pictures here. I just right click on the pic in the shutterfly account to get a link. are you using a share site, or just your basic Shutterfly account? well, the landscapers are gone. phase 1 is done. crushed stone and wood borders are all laid down. there's a beautiful 6x6' cedar plank flooring platform laid out in the outdoor shower area, and a full fall cleanup is complete. in the spring, they will come back and re-grade the discard dirt across areas needing to be filled in, spread topsoil and grass seed in those spots, and figure out the mulch border in the one area where there will be mulch. they will also build a privacy wall for the shower area so I can use it for myself next season. that's handy, b/c I'll be taking down the floor tile that's currently my main shower surround (I wish I was kidding here...) and that will be out of commission for awhile. I'd planned to get Chinese takeout tonight, but after writing out the check for the balance plus additional scope creep and the $100 tip for each of the two guys, I'm just gonna pull something out of the freezer tonight. woof. lol... I'm so glad phase 1 is done and it's definitely going to be awesome. When possible we would love pics I'll try, but I think I need to figure out a new way to do things. the Shutterfly share site I used to use has been discontinued by the site.

ooh....I just lost all productivity for the day. the Boston Globe published a 9-part series on a 2+ year reinvestigation their Spotlight team conducted into the murder of Carol Stuart in 1989. this was the case where her husband shot the pregnant woman in a predominantly Black section of Boston and then blamed a vague "skinny Black guy" before passing out on the way to the hospital. she died overnight, but not before delivering their son via C-section. that son died 2w later, and the husband Charles ultimately jumped off the Tobin Bridge when he realized the jig was up. I'd post the link, but my sister says it's behind a paywall. I'm going to print it all to pdf for her when I'm done reading, would be happy to share if anyone's interested. The Walk of the Penguin Mich - I'm not sure when exactly you were in Boston, but I do remember that you and I share some nearby stomping grounds. I thought the Spotlight team conducted investigations to solve or bring attention to crimes (I loved the film about the clergy abuse scandal). Is there a suggestion that the husband wasn't actually responsible? I'm not done with it yet, but the implication in the early chapters is that the original detectives thought it was Charles from a couple days after the murder, but that the brass and city leaders went with the utterance of "Black.......man......" and ran with it. as far as what they investigate, that's a pretty good observation. that's most of what they do, but they do deep dives into other stuff as well. another recent series explored NIMBYism in some tony suburbs that happen to have T stops, that are now required to up their affordable housing percentages in order to keep some government subsidies. these towns aren't being painted in the best light, to say the least.

Seriously. FDA audit on a Friday afternoon? Unfair. ugh, you have my deepest sympathies. they don't tend to do that unless they plan to stay awhile. good luck...

I’m in my car in the school parking lot. I’m trying to out on my happy face. Today is day 5 of the first goal of getting through 15 work days. Here’s an email that my boss sent to me yesterday: Can A and C please do some cross training so balls do not get dropped when C is out? That’s the entire email. I have no idea what ball was dropped. how helpful. since you're in self-preservation mode, I'd respond back to ask what specifically she'd like them to cross-train on, CC'ing both of them for visibility.

I know I just talked about donating my old stuff, but I'm a lot weirded out by using other people's old dishes. thankfully, I'm not in a position to need the charity like that. I've had this set about 20y now, I bought it not long after buying my first condo. while I am sad about not having this beautiful pattern when I move on, it's definitely served me well. I can find something else to make me smile Do you not let anyone else use the dishes that you own? What's the difference if you wash it? You can buy new in box Corelle off ebay though. Those serving bowls looked to be about $18 NIB. I know the people that I invite to use my dishes. I don't know the strangers that did before selling their stuff. and yes, I go to restaurants. I acknowlege that it's not a logical thing, but I'm not buying used dishes for daily use in my own home.

I think tonight's probably going to be another roasted chicken/broccoli potato bowl. I've had enough red sauce in the past week to last me a month or more, and I had a slice of veggie lasagna for breakfast so I'm not loving the idea of another sort of pasta.

Following the massive redo in 2015, we realized we would have a lot more space if we ditched our set of dishes from which we didn't use the coffee cups and saucers, or the rimmed soup plates. We donated an entire set of Noritake to a local assistance ministry resale shop and went to Crate and Barrel and chose pieces from their open stock of bone china. We got dinner plates, lunch plates, salad plates, medium bowls (used for soup and some cereals). We also got some smaller clear glass bowls to use for other cereals and fruits. The plates are pure white and square. We don't entertain at home so we just have (and store) what we use for our lifestyle. It was very liberating this is kind of where I'm at, too. I packed up all my shit when I moved to the rental at the start of COVID. the homeowner had a lot of IKEA stuff in his kitchen, and I absolutely loved the stainless steel bowls I used for salads all summer. I can easily see myself going mix and match with stuff that's functionally appropriate for how I live. this Mikasa set of plates was purchased while I was stocking up on all the traditional entertaining stuff, like full dinnerware sets, servingware (I sold a huge set of Corningware crocks/lids for like $50 a couple years ago) thinking that I was going to have this Martha Stewart life b/c that's what I was raised brainwashed to think was my path. I've said a few times - when I bought the townhouse that turned into my albatross, I bought it thinking that I'd live there til I met my Mister, and WE would decide what to do with it once we moved in together. yeah......life had different plans, and that's not a bad thing!

my full set is a discontinued Mikasa pattern. the plates and shallow bowl all have a wide rim with the pattern, and the food surface is plain white. so the basic white Corelle works really well for additional pieces to complement the pattern. I've got 1 and 2qt serving bowls, a couple flat platters, and some smaller rice bowls in the basic white. sadly, mooch managed to chip a few of the Mikasa pieces, and I can't find them on Replacements.com anymore. so I think I might be on the lookout for a new patterned set soon. You might look and see if there is anything on e-bay. My DS sells stuff there sometimes too. She told me to look for my silverware there. find yourself a shelter that works with DV victims, or veterans, in helping all of them get set up for a new life and good success. donate your old set there, it will be well loved by those taking their first steps toward a new normal. and then go buy yourself a new set! I actually love my pattern, and I'm annoyed that so many pieces were damaged. he actually managed to chip a few of the basic Corelle plates I had for holiday filler (I've got svc for 8 with the Mikasa). I'm sorry, Corelle doesn't chip, it just shatters. I'm still trying to figure out how TF he chipped that. anyway those plates are gone, I donated the intact ones when I moved here. anyway, here's the pattern - link and I'm registered on Replacements.com for any possible options.

basic winter frost white, 1qt round serving bowls. I'm just trying to avoid going to Walmart at this time of year, unless I absolutely have to. I probably will end up having to go there anyway, so I'll just grab bowls when I'm there. thanks for the sanity check, soupandstew. unfortunately, I'm seeing ~$40 in more places than just Amazon, so that may just be the price these days . Did you try one of those Corelle outlet stores (If they are still open as Corelle filed bankruptcy recently). I kind of wanted an extra set of Corelle dishes we only seem to use for christmas. They still have them at Macys, but I have not succumbed to ordering them yet. Along about the time they are not available I will decide I have to have them. I can afford it, just not convinced I NEED them to use once a year kwim? sadly, the local one closed awhile ago. that's where I got most of what I have now. I don't NEED these additional bowls right this second. I'll just grab some when I eventually do need to make a Walmart run.

If you have an Ikea - they have similar ones - maybe a bit smaller for 1$ each- check the ones made in france rather than china heh. Ikea in December doesn't sound especially pleasant, either. that said, there isn't one that's really nearby anyway.

Are they very specific bowls that you can’t find anywhere else and that’s why you’re looking at Amazon? I have found some more moderately priced Corelle dishes at Walmart and our local big grocery store of all places. You do realize Christmas Tree Shops went out of business, right? The are all closed now. I know. I was saying I'm fully stocked, and that's where it all came from.

was it really that bad? I'm sorry I used it this past July 4th weekend, and just needed to top it off each night. Not bad, per se. Just felt a little lopsided.🙂 Let's not forgetting I'm a lot heavier and I gained a bit more in the last year, sadly enough. I sit on that thinh again and it will burst this time. umm....stop with this, k?

We ear pasta and stir fries from these Corelle pasta bowls. a.co/d/bmWoSmJlink didn't work for me. but TBH, my post was more about standardizing my cabinets than finding something else that might work. I hope someone else finds their new favorite dishes from this link 🙃 I just know my cabinets are small here, and I'm working with what I have.

Chiver, You mentioned a Corelli outlet store so I looked on google maps. Is appears that all og the Corningware, Corelle & more stores have permanently closed. Darn! I wanted more plates. yup, I had heard the outlet near me had closed. I'm probably going to just suck it up and pay Amazon bc i want nothing AT ALL to do. with shopping til 2024 at this point.

alright, what else do I need from Amazon that will spare me a trip to Walmart in December? lol... I've got a shopping cart with a few things in it already. I just hate to place an order and then remember I needed something else. so then I don't order it right away, and I forget a few days later. rinse and repeat. Garbage bags? Cooking spices? Gift bags (although I like how inexpensive they are at Dollar Tree)? 1 - I'm well stocked from HD, bc I keep buying when I forget that I already have two big boxes in the basement. 2 - same, Penzeys 3 - Christmas Tree Shops (I'm a Make-a-Wish volunteer, always needing gift wrapping options....) I actually left the cart hanging out. the one thing I needed that was time-limited wouldn't have gotten here til after I needed it anyway....December 9th, really? it's not even December yet. whatever. so, I'll just add to the cart as I remember things. the one thing I did remember that pissed me off, is that I wanted to add a few more 1qt Corelle serving bowls to my cabinet as I've been using them more for salads, soup cans, whatever I don't want splashing over a plate like linguine. I found a 4pk of these bowls for $40 on Amazon. I do not remember paying $10/ea for the ones I already have, but I could be wrong...? the Corelle I do have was all bought at the outlet, so that and time may skew my memories there haha...

thanks. it was a bit of a roller coaster ride, for sure. first, we sat in the exam room for a half hour before I went out to ask for a bowl of water for the pups. come to find out, an emergency case came in right after we did - a pup had gotten into some mouse poison and all hands were on deck to check on that one. absolutely no prob, I appreciated getting right in when Punk had her cardboard adventure this past spring. the room we were in was just overheated and the pups needed some water. I was told they were successful in getting the emergency case pup to vomit, here's hoping it pulls through okay. as far as LD, the surgeon had made an offhand comment about slightly enlarged lymph nodes when he called to consult about the follow-up visit after knee surgery about a month ago. he said it wasn't alarming, but something to keep an eye on, and maybe indicative of a minor dental issue. well, LD's breath has always been , but it's reached another circle of hell in the last couple weeks and he's been drooling a lot more than normal. I asked about it when I picked up their Heartgard recently - should we look at this a little closer? vet palpated pretty much all of him, and looked at me all serious and says "I don't love this...." and mentions a few things it could be, including lymphoma. apparently, whatever it is isn't isolated to a single node or side of the body, it's fairly evenly enlarged....if somewhat mildly. so they aspirated a neck and a knee (I didn't realize that was a thing...?) node each, and looked at the slides. nothing looked abnormal, and the vet looked a lot calmer for the secondary chat. we came home with an antibiotic and a probiotic, that if this is a minor dental issue, should clear up the heinous breath in a few days. if it doesn't, we'll poke around more at that point. I was freaking out to hear the L word, but to see Dr H much calmer after looking at the slides, I calmed down a bunch as well. so all that said, please keep your fingers crossed that these meds do the trick. b/c I'm not ready for the big C with either of my two, who are both breeds that are known for it. Does LD need a tooth cleaning? While antibiotics can help some, the teeth really need to be cleaned in order to really clean out the bacteria. Harpo was on the yearly plan when get got older, and lost quite a few teeth along the way. Harriet's 11 and she's been twice so far. We've been taking her when her breath gets bad. no, he's good there. they both get a full cleaning ~2x/yr at the groomers. Dr and I were both wondering if one of those huge back molars was cracked under the gum line or something that we can't see rn. the thought with the antibiotics is to see if it clears up (that's good, that means it's not the big C just yet) and then if it were to come back, then that kind of says yes, this is definitely dental and we sedate him for further poking. he doesn't look like he's in pain, and his CBC came up normal.

I logged in to work for a few minutes to finish up something I just couldn't bring myself to do last night. I'm about to close this laptop down, as I'm supposed to be off today. I should probably find a quick bite to eat before heading out to LD's vet visit, my coffee is already trying to tear a hole in my stomach. Good luck to LD. thanks. it was a bit of a roller coaster ride, for sure. first, we sat in the exam room for a half hour before I went out to ask for a bowl of water for the pups. come to find out, an emergency case came in right after we did - a pup had gotten into some mouse poison and all hands were on deck to check on that one. absolutely no prob, I appreciated getting right in when Punk had her cardboard adventure this past spring. the room we were in was just overheated and the pups needed some water.
