I think we're putting Fritzie down today. She's not moving at all. Just breathing and laying in her basket. I haven't called the vet yet. K is still sleeping and I don't want to wake her. I told both kids we were taking Fritzie to the vet today and K said she wants to go. C said he doesn't. I think I'm taking both kids at first, then mom will come and get whomever doesn't want to stay. I'm so sorry. It does teach us about life and death, but it doesn't make it any easier.

You made the right decision Beth. Still sucks, but it was the right thing to do.

I'm really sorry Beth. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a much loved pet, especially when you are the one that has to make the decision. It's been four years since I last had to take a pet in and although I cried the whole time I didn't have any doubts. To let an animal suffer is cruel and you absolutely did the right thing.

Both kids asked about a funeral for her. So we're bringing home the ashes (shudder) and the vet's office is having 2 of the pawprints done, one for each kid. I'm working on the "Whatever the kids feel they need to do for closure" I think some of the ashes will go in our yard. I think the kids want to put some on our land in Rhinelander too. Which is fine.
The kids want to keep the cat stuff around for now. So the cat tree is staying in K's room and C's got a homemade cardboard cat tree and lots of toys in his room. I ran the dishwasher with the water dishes and the storage from the assorted cat foods last night. I'm tossing the cat beds downstairs for now, I'll get them washed and put away eventually. The kids want another pet. I told them we're going to make sure the fleas are out of the house and maybe we'd wait until after all the summer vacationing trips are done, then we'll see how we feel, etc.
I've got the unused litter in my car, along with the food. The vet's office said they take donations so I'm going to drop that off today. I've also got the leftover pain meds packed. I'm hoping they can depose of that safely for me.
While at the vet's, the vet tech was stroking Fritzie and commented on a hard lump on her side. She said it was deeply rooted. I felt it and it was the size of a dime. I'd swear it wasn't there last week so in addition to paralysis, she probably had a fast growing cancer too. We had xrays last week so the vet was moving her around and no one noticed it then.

Hugs Beth. It is so tough.
An animal shelter might be able to reuse the pain meds. Guidelines are obviously a lot more lax than human medicine, but its okay if you don't want to track down that kind of stuff too.

There's not much left, maybe 1 ml? The dose was 0.3 ml. I don't want to pour it (or the antibiotics) down the drain.

We had our first visit with the Fertility Dr.... here goes nothing! Was it just kind of a checkup to see if everything is a go to get started? We want (possibly, I'm second guessing the decision) to get started later this year. I need to figure out when to call them and get in. I have a few specific concerns I want checked out before we get started.

Hugs for you, the kids and DH. I wasn't a kid when I put my first cat down but I have his ashes. I have the ashes of some of my other cats. They are going with mine when the time comes. Niece had a funeral for their dog, which the kids wanted. They had it at sister's farm and dog is buried there with a small marker of some kind. That's kind of you to take the unused litter and food to the vet.

Q: How much would be reasonable to give a kid for summer clothes allowance? I have to take B shopping for summer clothes, and I'd like to start teaching her about how to manage a budget and make choices. So we are going to sit down, decide approx what she needs and then go shop on a budget. What do you think is a reasonable sum for a whole summer wardrobe including (prob 2 pair) shoes? $300? We are likely going to Target, if that helps.

We are likely going to Target, if that helps. $300 seems high, but I shop second-hand for the kids. But doing math, 2 pairs of shoes are going to run about $60 at Target. That leaves $240. Assuming a wardrobe is 7 shirts and 7 shorts - that averages $17 an item. May be a little high, but if you can afford it, I don't think it is excessive. Does she want a nice dress or additional accessories? If you are trying to get her to learn to budget and make choices $250 might be a better starting point. At $300, I'm not sure how much saying no you have to do.
