Argh. Just picked DD up at school. She insisted she was sick and had to come home. So she has a doctor’ Appointment in an hour. She’s not sick, she wants to play and watch tv. The lights are out, the remote is hidden and I’m taking every toy she picks up away. I was just told I’m the world’s meanest mom. I’m so proud.
(And if she really is sick I’m going to feel like the world’s worst mom)

I've told mine upfront that if they're staying home sick, they're in bed. No Xbox, no games. They may, if it works for me, be allowed to watch TV in my bed but I control the remote and selection. Reading is ok. This usually makes them think twice about wanting to stay home from school.
K will be 11 in May and so far isn't interested in boys. Although she may be crushing on some of the characters from Rick Riordan's books. She may be over her crush of Josh Gates but she still enjoys his tv show.

Those are my sick-day rules too. DH is a lot more casual about it. Sick days when he’s home are a free for all. If she’s really sick she’s not interested in doing much except laying on the couch or bed.

My thoughts on the call, either girl had no interest so didn't bother to warn him not to call after a certain time, or she's been sneaking her phone after parents go to bed. She is in 6th grade, she is 12... she is not old enough to be interest in ANYTHING.... And don’t know 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ Bwah hah hah. You need to talk to some lady friends Carl. The popular girls all had "boyfriends" by 6th grade. 4th grade is when I overheard them in the bathroom talking about having given themselves hickies so other girls would be jealous. Still not sure why that was supposed to impress. And yes I totally repeated what I heard. 😈 I'm under no illusion the girls will have mo interest till a self selected age. That's why I'm open about it. I want them to be me rolling my eyes in the stall and not the one using a vacuum hose on her neck.

I work in a middle school.... 6th graders not interested in anything... There are some that aren't but most are feeling the rage. And by 8th grade, they know all the terms and ideas. Not sure how many are sexually active, but I am pretty certain some are.

Drugs were in too. kid would go a few blocks down and smoke pot before class. I had a friend who reeked of it. I didn't 100% know that is what it was when I was 13 but I know for sure now.

I know she wasn't lying about being sexually active. I give her parents a lot of credit for having her go back to school and get a high school diploma after having a baby while she was that young. Most girls back then went to live with their aunt or something like that. She didn't. She was obviously pregnant in school and kept the baby. She didn't get married. That isn't the way things happened then.

Those were mom's rules when I was a kid, in part because it meant she had to stay home and she would not get paid. We also had to go to the doctor. We definitely did not pretend to be sick. It's also how I exposed my 2nd grade class to the measles. Doctor said I wasn't sick so I was taken to school. By the time I got home after school, I was breaking out with the measles.

It is the ones that tell the braggers to sit down and shut up because XYZ doesn't really happen like they are saying but more like this way, that I tend to believe. Or the ones that are upset because it was only suppose to stay between them and the other person. And I would say the ones that have gone all the way to sex is a pretty low number, but there is plenty of base play. It doesn't seem to be limited to the population that I work with either.

OT but when I am reading anything at all you have to physically touch me or yell my name to get my attention. I can read with tv, radio and people talking at the same time and I don't hear a thing. Now not sure this is going to make you feel better but I was like this as a child too and it hasn't changed. Nothing gets thru if I'm engrossed in a book. You have to wave your hand in my face which will get my attention because you're blocking the page and pissing me off. 😝 Right! I seriously had to stop reading from the time my oldest child was about 18 months until my youngest child was four or five. Otherwise I'd have literally, criminally neglected them from being so absorbed in books.

There’s a new person at work that’s pregnant. She’s been there since the end of January. She’s due in July. I was supposed to be due in early July. Life isn’t fair!

I cannot even tell you how many sixth - eighth grade girls I've taught that were completely and utterly boy crazy.

I always figured the ones talking like they were writing to penthouse were the ones not actually doing it.
No way a 13 year old actually knew what a majority of those words meant back in internet infancy days.

I've scheduled an appointment with a psychologist for DD#2. Her anxiety is overwhelming her. Dance was her coping mechanism, and we've not been able to find a new one. We've tried yoga and cardio, but that's exacerbated her lower back (hurt during dance). We've tried one medication that she takes at night. It does help her sleep, but she doesn't like the way it makes her feel the next day. Part of the anxiety is due to not yet knowing where she's going to college. She had a meltdown last night--at least the third in two weeks--and we talked about seeing a counselor. She's not against it; it just makes her even more anxious. "I don't know how to talk to someone." I assured her that the person I had her go see would be able to help her learn how to talk about what she was feeling. The appt isn't until March 8, and I'm not sure how much notice I'm going to give DD about it.
Sigh. Parenting is hard.

Really annoyed with my DH. 8 yo turns 9 tomorrow. Wanted to bring donuts for class treat. I'm thinking, fine, the smaller ones with frosting and sprinkles. My DH went to the store to get them. Pretty sure I mentioned a few times, the smaller cake donuts, or cupcakes if they didn't have those. I was even going to send DS along to pick them out. My DH brought home enormous adult type donuts--apple fritters and glazed donuts. The teacher is going to hate me. The classmates aren't going to like them as much, and I'm wondering wtf my DH was thinking.

I don't recall hearing of a murder of a teenage boy, so I guess they didn't get rid of him in that sense. The relationship between the two kids that resulted in my classmate being pregnant seemed to end. I don't recall her having a boyfriend all through high school.

E had an eye appointment today and they said she has great eye sight. She's kind of bummed because she really likes glasses. I told her we could look for accessory frames. Lol. C's appointment is in a couple weeks, and he was really worried about it, but feeling better now that he got to watch E.
Her stomachaches have been greatly reduced as well. The doctor put her on zantac so that works for me. I still need to get the blood work done, but I'm not freaked out about celiac anymore.

Proud mommy moment: DD's artwork was put into a county school's art show. As it turns out for her school, there were 5 students' artwork selected (1 in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade were selected for her whole school). According to DD, she didn't know it was a student for each grade. Both DH and I were extremely proud of her!

Reminds me of Jeanne Roberts video "Don't send a man to the store".

I'm back to worrying about my 6 year old DD. Her latest report card came home and for Reading and ELA she's "working below grade level". Every day she spends 45 minutes with a different teacher in a session called Reading Mastery. I spoke to that teacher last week and he said she was working hard and progressing and he may move her up to the next level. He said he hasn't seen any signs that there's an underlying disorder so I'm trying to focus on that for now and not stress out my daughter.
Having her work on her sight words or read to me is often a terrible chore but I'm not sure if she can't do it or if she's just really tired after a long day. Last night I thought she was going to cry when I asked her to read a Bob book in bed so I didn't make her and then she fell asleep during the first chapter I read of the Magic Treehouse book we're reading. She's a very strong-willed child and I'm never sure when she's being stubborn and when she's just had enough. I really don't want to make reading unpleasant.

She was behind in reading because she hates to look stupid, and unless she is immediately good at something, she doesn't want to do it. Keep reading to her, make her read stuff on her own (lego instructions, make a cake, directions in the car, road signs, etc.). She eventually got it after 3 years of reading help at school, and now she's way above grade level.
