I hate Trump with a passion, but Mitch McConnell is even more evil. Without him Trump would not have been able to take over your Supreme Court. IMO that was the nail in your coffin. McConnell is the one that started doing whatever the fuck he wanted and dared you to stop him And you didn't.

Donald Trump - The greatest threat to and destroyer of what America is supposed to believe in and stand for, and its place in the world. Mitch McConnell - The greatest threat to and destroyer of American democracy. William Barr - The greatest threat to and destroyer of the rule of law in this country. All three should have been executed for their crimes against the American people.

DeSantis is a more competent politician, but he is less dangerous because I do not think he gets the same crazed devotion that Trump does. The devotion to Trump is hard to understand. It is my personal opinion that DeSantis is going to be worse than Trump for the country. He is far smarter. Trump laid the groundwork for fascism.

I think Trump could run over a grandma on his golf course and have his minions claim the grandma was a commie ANTIFA actor and the whole thing was a staged liberal plot to make him look bad - but I think the same MAGA minions would turn on DeSantis if he did such a thing. Hopefully.

I do not think DeSantis will be good, and he may destroy some things, but he is not the threat to our country and our democracy that trump is. DeSantis is not the level of criminal, and he does not get the fealty of people. I have never seen anyone here keep up political flags and signs this long after an election, especially when their candidate list. I just do not believe DeSantis supporters would do the same

It’s now Ron Desanctimonious. I saw that! Fox is posting on Truth Social that Republicans are complaining about Trump dissing DeSantis. I've been waiting for them to turn on Trump when he went too far/broke the party, but it's never seemed to go anywhere...maybe?

Trump turns on everyone eventually. I don't get why his minions don't see it.

Yeah I don’t know DeSantis much and I’m probably horribly optimistic that no one could be worse than Trump. I was one of the idiots in 2016 who thought Trump would become serious and dignified once he got elected, and we all know what a hopelessly Pollyanna idea that was.

Yes, elections changed the day Trump entered the political scene. He started when he lost to Cruz in the primary in Iowa, spread election lies when he thought he was going to lose to Hillary, and then really showed his ass in 2020. I cannot get over the number of people I know that support him and all the lies. Before Trump, I hardly knew where any of them stood politically. Look...our Capitol was attacked and is excused away. If that doesn't tell you the trouble this country is in, I don't know what will. RE: Desantis I pop over to the conservative website that I think someone who use to post here started. It is MAGA through and through. They don't like Desantis. He's part of the deep state's goal to get rid of Trump. I wish I had your optimism, but having lived in Florida, I don't. DeSantis DOES kiss up to big business (except for Disney when they ticked him off). Also, this is the guy that was shipping immigrants to other states on the taxpayer dime, so no, I don't have faith that he's a "better" candidate. I don't know much about DeSantis. So setting an incredibly low bar for "better candidate": If he were to be nominated and lose, would he call for an assault on the Capitol? That is where I am at. There is no "good" candidate anymore in the Republican party. While I disagreed with McConnell on a lot of things there were other things that I either partly agreed with him or could see his point. That is the last time I ever had anything in common with a Republican candidate. DeSantis can do a lot of damage but I don't see him being the free wheeling loose cannon that Trump is. I don't see him if he does manage to get to the big leagues being able to draw the type of loyalty that Trump does. He doesn't have the charisma to be able to get people to stage a coup for him. Trump's loyal minions are not going to go to bat for him, especially if Trump keeps trash talking him. He's going to be a major headache but he's not going to be the headache Trump is. Especially because it is likely the MAGA heads are going to actively work against him. McConnell will have his hands full as the party splinters. Even with all his evil dark side powers I don't think he can pull the MAGA heads into a cohesive party with DeSantis as the head.

Oh I think he will be a disaster. Just not a disaster like Trump. He'll be his own unique flavor. I don't think he can pull the support, especially if Trump keeps convincing people he's part of the deep state, to succeed where Trump failed. I DO think we'll get even more extremely polarized as the MAGA heads go rouge. Without Trump McConnell will not be able to keep them in line, hence his continued deference to Trump at the moment. The man is not stupid there is a reason he keeps licking Trump's boots. If it didn't benefit McConnell and the party he would have jetisoned Trump like a hot potato. We'll likely see the splintering of the Republican party. Whether or not that ends up being a good or bad thing remains to be seen. I'd like to think it would be a good thing but the variable is how many people splinter off with the crazies and it is it a big enough voting block to eliminate the now two remaining parties.

i am guessing that is why this board has gotten so quiet. this is a dark moment. I have a hard time getting on these boards anymore. Not because of any of you, but because of the content in the posts. Its just so much chaos and fear! I am in the same boat as you DJ, I think we are pretty much f*cked. I don't trust that the people in key states/locations will vote blue. There is too much gerrymandering and voter suppression in the crazy states to ever get them back on track, and it is only going to get worse. I have pretty much just lost hope for America. I'm sitting in my safe (for now) blue bubble, and trying to maintain my mental health. The best way for me to do that is not watching or read too much news, and to binge watch shows that get my mind of the current state of this country. Also, booze....lots and lots of booze. I still have 25 years before I even reach retirement age. It terrifies me what this country could look at by that point!

While I work remotely, I am not sure if the project would let me work from outside of the country, not on a long term basis anyway. My parent company is in Canada, but unfortunately, their contract expired this year, and I will have to switch companies to stay on the project. But I have worked for them for 15 years, and I am leaving on great terms, so they are always an option in the future.

PS- i am not angry, if anyone is wondering. i have considered that objection before. i just don't buy it. I'm not angry either, and I do really respect and admire your expertise in your posts. I don't know much about ex-patting. Are you saying you think someone could expat to a decent country for $500? That wouldn't even buy a one way ticket. Aren't you paying a pretty decent amount of money to relocate to your new country? I can't remember if you decided, I know Malta, Costa Rica, and a few others have been mentioned over time. And I know there was mention of citizenship costing hundreds of thousands of dollars for some of those places. I know it is possible, its just not a top priority....yet. I have to see how things go, and then I'd have to do a lot of planning. I do think it is easier for retired people to move to another country, than younger people, that have families to take care of, careers to think about, etc.
