...in molestation case. from the Philly Atheist Examiner, although other sources popped up in a google search: It is official, the Pope and two top Vatican officials have been served with court papers associated with the Milwaukee-area school for the deaf molestation case in which 200 deaf children were alleged to have been molested by Reverend Lawrence C. Murphy between 1950 and 1974. click 'Philly Atheist Examiner' for the link. ************************************************************************** as a recovering Catholic, I say good. it's about damn time, those guys in the ivory tower of the Vatican knew about these sick b*stards a long time before it hit the public's radar.

I'm honestly not sure how much the Vatican- and in particular Pope Benedict who wasn't in the United States- knew about the Pink Mafia in the United States and all the looking the other way that went on here. Officials here knew- and know. That's for damn sure.

when the fit hit the shan here in Boston, Cardinal Law got a nice cushy spot over in the Vatican rather than face the media and the law here in the US. I'd say they knew much more than they are admitting. I acknowledge it wasn't Benedict, but he was still a Cardinal. nothing of that magnitude happens in the Catholic church without the Cardinals being aware. they may not have known about it when it was going on, but they damn well knew enough to cover it up.

If this goes through, is Obama is now liable to be served for any crime committed by a federal government employee?

As head of state I doubt he will choose to attend.

can any of you address an issue that has nothing to do with Obama without bringing him up and sidetracking every topic under the sun? Or are you all just simply incapable of anything but bringing up Obama?

The Pope is not a politician, and last I checked, he's not a stockbroker either...there are plenty of places on the web where you can bash Catholics till the new moon turns to gold. I suggest you find one...

I started this thread, and I picked P&M because there have been a fair amount of threads started on that board involving rather public lawsuits. I felt that this qualified, if one of the mods disagrees, then they can move it. that said, the current administration of the US has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread, and I would appreciate staying on topic - this is not EE. thanks for your time.

Now, I'll stay on topic AND bash a Catholic....a two-fer!
I think that everyone involved from the top on down who knew or were involved or helped cover up/move priests or did nothing to stop the abuse from happening should all be put on trial for their crimes. Thousands of children have been abused across the world by priests. The Vatican has actively covered it up and protected the priests. Even sacrificing more children to these abusers by moving the priests from one church right into another and allowed them to continue having contact with children. They all need to be prosecuted.

Now, Chives, learn to read carefully. You wrote "the Pope and two top Vatican officials have been served with court papers". Now, that's just not true. Nameless, faceless Vatican representatives were served with court papers, not the Pope himself nor two top Vatican officials. You're acting like it was part of this weeks "All Worked Up", and Bryan Elderberry caught the Pope coming out of Baskin Robbins and gave him a handful of papers before running to his SUV.
I guarantee you that the Pope will NOT testify at this trial. Sorry you hate your Church so much. But try not to lie, OK?

I suggest you find one... This board stopped solely being about the Markets long, long ago. It has pretty much been local, national and world news and politics since the get go. ed and P.I.-if you want to talk about the market, I suggest you visited the other boards associated with this website. The sovereign Head of State of Vatican City is Pope Benedict VI. He is also the religious leader of over one billion members. If Allah, Muslims and Islam is fair game here, then so is the pope and the Catholic Church news. If you wish any and all future threads about religions of the world, their members, and any legal or illegal activities be banned from now on, let moonbeam or the moderators know. We will be more than willing to at least consider it. It sure would cut down on religion bashing. Tennessee/Moderator

Then there's no reason why I can't interject my opinions about the president any place I like... You are correct ed. You can interject your opinion about President Obama, Grandma Moses or even Santa Claus if you like. And there is no reason why someone else can't interject their opinions about the pope any place they like either. It may look ridiculous having nothing to do with the thread topic but the choice is always the poster's. Tennesseer/Moderator

Indeed, a post about the Pope does look ridiculous on a politics board, but like you said, it's the poster's choice!

Clearly this was my fault for daring to mention that Obama had nothing to do with this topic. So I do sincerely apologize for getting poor ed so worked up over this. But now we all know that he and others will no longer be able to pull the "stay on topic" card on anyone else. So winning! ;D

excuse me, vorp, I clearly pasted an excerpt from an article that I also linked. the excerpt was a courtesy to some posters that complained my last linked article didn't have any detail. the information contained within can be easily checked with a quick internet search. I'm guessing you didn't do a quick search before coming in here to chide me on my choice of houses of worship. let me help a bit: here's an AP article, and a website for a group called "For a Secular Europe", both reporting the same information - the Pope and two Vatican officials were named in the lawsuit. there's also an AP article that talks specifically about the current Pope hindering a child molestation case by refusing to defrock a priest in CA in the 1980s. I doubt you care, but I'd lost my pull for the Catholic church long before any of this stuff hit the airwaves. something about blindly following preaching without being able to question its validity just didn't sit well with me as a scientist. the whole 'cherry-picking' from the Bible as to what commandments, tenets, and guidelines to follow was a big red flag as well. knowing now that they covered up a lot of criminal activity doesn't earn them any brownie points, either.

True, and yet Tennesseer chose to put on his pair of big boy moderator pants to chastise me rather than you. It speaks volumes... It may have been a mistake to point out your Obama obsession on this thread, but doesn't change that you simply are unable to control your urge to derail a thread that has nothing to do with Obama. But I do look forward to the first time you tell someone else to keep it on topic.
