Never said that.
People who think they are successful based entirely on their own hard work are fooling themselves. We all got here on a combination of hard work, good luck, and the ability (or the good luck to have friends who can help) to weather episodes of bad luck.
If you understand that it only takes one instance of really bad luck - the birth of a disabled kid, the early death of a spouse, a road accident that keeps you from being able to work - to upset your happy apple cart, you'll have more empathy for people who are struggling.
If you keep insisting poor people are lazy and get what they deserve - well, hopefully karma won't smite you and upset your happy apple cart just to prove to you that bad things happen to good people.
How many times a day does this happen to you? All my friends, all two them,, both are named Welts,, so you know help I can expect. I don't understand the question - how many times a day has bad luck happened to me?
Doesn't happen every day. However, yesterday I went to the Fresh Market for some brats for the 4th and had some tightly wound fellow behind me get aggressive when an old guy unknowingly jumped the line at the meat counter and ordered his chicken kabob out of order.
Angry guy behind me started yelling about the 'guy butting in line and just ordering without waiting his turn' while his wife was doing the embarrassed 'shush, shush' thing behind me.
Could the angry guy have been so tightly wound he pulled out a gun and shot me in the back of the head while aiming for the chicken kabob guy? Sure. And rather than dying right away, I might have lingered for a couple years as a semi-comatose invalid, sucking up all the family savings. And that would have put a big damper on my DH's lifestyle (Plus, he wouldn't have gotten his brats for tomorrow )
Stupid shit happens all the time, some of it with devastating consequences. It's a dark reality, but it's reality.

reading your reply on the other thread about aliens sucking the life out of our social security system and turning us into a Marxist State, one might gather than you were far MORE cynical than her.

Wow, I am truly optimistic a compared to you! Doesn't have anything to do with being an optimist or pessimist. It has to be with accepting that sometimes, reality bites, and it could bite any one of us.
It helps to be prepare for disasters, because it makes you grateful for every day one doesn't happen. My religious beliefs require that I be grateful for what I've been given, and not to sit and think bad thoughts about what someone else might have gotten with my tax dollars, for free.
Because you never know when I might be poor and in need of some help, too, and I surely hope I run into some grateful people who are willing to share some of their blessings with me, too.

And here I am thinking about what's for dinner. When I should be worried about some killer asteroid, or something like that!!

What I see in the quoted post is about being grateful, not about being worried. Of course it does mmhmm, If I say the Sky is blue, you are going to say it is orange,, it I say it is orange, you will say it is blue. Along with several other posters here, it does not matter what color the sky is, no matter what I say you will argue exactly the opposite, I do the same. Happy fourth of July everyone. I hope every thing finds you doing well.

if I say "I am not optimistic about the hopes and aspirations of anyone making less than median income in the US", that says nothing about me whatsoever.
I am doing great, for the record. but I think the gravy train is reaching the end of the line. and yeah, I am worried about that. but that doesn't mean I am without hope and thanks. it is just that I am placing my hope elsewhere.

Umm, no, OC. I don't base my take on a post on anything you might say, believe me. What I said is exactly how I took Happy's post. While you might do that, as you say, I don't. Please don't project your choices of action/motivation on me.
