as if this bizarre race could not get weirder: early voting is to be (partially) halted due to hurricane Dorian.

DJ, I'm on another board with a lady who lives in Charlotte, NC. I'm not sure where she works, BUT...they are hearing signs from management that they may either close or work force greatly reduced due to the tariffs DT has put into place. It's making their product too expensive for their buyers.....soooo, maybe some of these people are starting to see the light?
She didn't vote for DT in the first place & wouldn't under any conditions...but many of her co-workers did. And that is just one little area where there might be people having second thoughts about who they want to run what.

it was $2,300/family.
can you imagine how devastating this would be for the bottom quintile or two?
my prediction: it is a bunch of hot air. if the Chinese are smart, they will not play to the bluff.

The $1000 additional that has been predicted at this point will put a lot of families under. They won't eat well, some won't take needed meds, some will get behind on mortgage & vehicle payments....etc.!

Families that have more money, spend more money and will absorb a lot of the cost. Families in or near poverty may already buy their clothes from Goodwill, and don't have the money for new electronics, so they won't get hurt as much. Families in the middle will have to make some difficult choices.

I've already got everything else I need already, and too much of a lot of things. Don't need to buy clothes, for example, for years. Appliances? No. Electronics? No. Car? Not for years.

24 hours left in the 2018 midterms.
Hurricane Dorian threatened early voting sites in the district. The state Board of Elections limited early voting in three counties on Friday to account for the storm. It extended early voting for an extra day into Saturday after both candidates released statements calling on the board to grant an extension. The 9th District, which includes the suburbs of both Charlotte and Fayetteville, is itself a microcosm of the American electorate. The median age of the district is just above the median of the rest of the country, and the district’s education levels are on par with the rest of the country. About 87% of voters possess at least a high school diploma.
Both parties have spent heavily on the election, shelling out at least $13.8 million combined. McCready’s campaign has vastly outspent Bishop’s, but Republican outside spending has dwarfed that of Democratic groups. www.cnbc.com/2019/09/09/north-carolina-9th-district-special-election-has-implications-for-2020.html Sabato changed his rating on this one to toss-up. I find him to be pretty conservative: www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/ both sides are viewing this as a dry run for 2020. but let's be clear- this is a district that Trump won by 11% last time, and that no Democrat has won since 1963.

I just loved Trump today saying the Repos “won the Senate” in 2018. I guess not losing it is a win now. And then thanking Obama for all the judicial openings as if the Repo-Cons hadn’t blocked them by being anti-American.

I am reasonably confident they will lose seats again in 2020. it might not be enough to block the JudicialWash tho.

Trump dropped his approval rating from about 42% at the beginning of summer to 38%. Guess the Summer of Racism wasn't a great political idea.
He stumped hard for the GOP candidate in NC, interesting to see how that turns out.

he has gone from "high normal" for him to "low normal". but he always bounces back. or at least he always has.

everyone thinks it will be close. but the MOE on this kind of election is about 6%, so there is really no way of knowing until the votes are counted, because it is almost definitely going to fall within that MOE.

Of course I want him to win, but McCready has a face that I'd like to punch. Based on nothing but his picture.

And that is just one little area where there might be people having second thoughts about who they want to run what. there was an independent analysis done of the cost of the tariffs to the average consumer NEXT YEAR if DT does what he SAYS he is going to do.
it was $2,300/family.
can you imagine how devastating this would be for the bottom quintile or two?
my prediction: it is a bunch of hot air. if the Chinese are smart, they will not play to the bluff.
I seen one that said $1000. I don't believe it.

Of course you don't believe it, because you don't want to believe it. After all, you think you're much smarter than scientists, climate change experts and economists. You're living in denial, like the other Cult 45ers. Tariffs are expected to cost American households more than $2,000 per year in 2020, according to a recent report from the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP). The Arlington-based nonprofit — which looked at the effect of tariffs on the overall economy and consumers — estimated that by the end of 2019, the trade duties imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump “will have cost the average household $1,315 over a two-year period.” And “when adding the tariffs in effect and the tariffs set to go into effect by the end of 2019, the costs of the tariffs to consumers will be $259.2 billion,” the report stated. “That is, the tariffs will cost the average household $2,031 per year, and will be recurring so long as the tariffs stay in effect.” ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-tariffs-cost-2020-research-151755274.html

Oh thats right they came out of the same college as the ones forecasting 200 ft sea levels in 100 years,,
But cannot accurately tell where a hurricane is going to do 24 hours from now,, It's going to do this , it sits there , it's going to do that, it sit there! Annnnd they are guessing what is happening 100 years from now.. Also your great forecasters of the tariff,,, are they as accurate as the Government cost estimates?? constant cost over runs!! Great point welts, GREAT point!!

Minor, its all a wash. The people who couldn't afford health ins now has it heavily subsidize for them by the ones who can afford it. Now they have to shell out a few pennies for goods and services oh well too bad.
