The last time a D-list celebrity did something as offensive as Kathy Griffin, he got elected president.

Neither did Ted Nugent to President Obama. Oh, back to deflecting, lol!! Yes, Ted Nugent joked about killing Obama. But here's the difference: Griffin joked about killing a White president

The thing that really gets me, is she was fired and lost a couple of gigs so far. I admit the NYE job at CNN is no biggie. All the male comics and some media geniuses, who are all male, faced no backlash, and were applauded for their over the top segments. Not one of them ever apologized for what they said. She did apologize even if I thought it was not quite real, and gets hit by the left wingers anyway. Talk about female bias still being around. Reminds me of Ellen when she came out as gay. she lost her comedy show and was persona non grata for a year or so in Hollywood. I started the thread with the title, she went over the edge, but the unequal treatment she has received is even worse by the media and business entities. How about equal treatment for males and females? I think if she'd been popular she'd have gotten away with it but she's not so even those who'd love for it to have really been trumps head, can say ick and pretend to be horrified. I don't believe there's anyone on this message board who would have wished for that to be anybody's real head, zib. Let's not get so carried away with the rhetoric that we forget we're all pretty darned decent human beings here, even if we disagree.

There's absolutely no reason to bring that up here. It's only relevant if we give it relevance. Let's not do that.

The left needs to learn the difference between comedy and political activism. The problem is that when you're on the left, it's very hard to tell the difference.

The left needs to learn the difference between comedy and political activism. The problem is that when you're on the left, it's very hard to tell the difference. Have you seen the comparisons on social media to all of the tasteless representations that were made about President Obama by any chance? None of those were penned by "The Left". Of professionally produced content, the left really has no line left between comedy and political activism. Oliver, Colbert, Stewart, Maher, Moore, SNL, ...: comedy or political activism? There's no difference anymore.

She's trying to incite violence against Trump. While I agree with most anyone here that this photo was disgusting, would you please provide me a link where all of you here went of on Ted Nugent when he threatened violence against Obama and HRC? Or is it only "inciting violence" worthy because it is dt? Still waiting for any of the dt fans to provide me with a link...
ETA: this is not deflecting (no matter how many times anyone says so), this is me asking people to proof that they are not hypocrites but sincerely believe that all this is a one-sided attack on dt!

Of professionally produced content, the left really has no line left between comedy and political activism. Oliver, Colbert, Stewart, Maher, Moore, SNL, ...: comedy or political activism? There's no difference anymore. The left isn't in charge of these people's choice of content. It would be more accurate to say these left leaning people IMO has no line between comedy and political activism. I see Maher as a left leaning political activist who sometimes tries to be funny. SNL is comedy and has always poked fun of whoever is in charge. They abuse all sides of politics so its hard for me to think of them as political activism in any way.
Moore is a documentary film-maker. Always been left leaning, always been a political activist. Certainly over the top at times, but with far more scruples and attempts at accuracy than the new wannbe documentary film-makers on the right who really are story creators, not those who follow a story.
Colbert, Oliver, and formerly Jon Stewart have used their comedy shows for political activism. Scott Adams the Dilbert cartoonist has been blogging pro-Trump stuff for awhile.

Mr. Moore's documentaries are always full of goofy stunts and comedy montages. He's definitely more documentarian than comedian, but he's still both. SNL goes after both sides, but not proportionately. Hardly surprising given Hollywood's political makeup. I agree with you on Mr. Maher, but he's still part comedian. I don't altogether mind the mixing of politics and comedy, but there's also a tone to consider, relating to how prosecutorial and mean-spirited material becomes. For example, you'll notice a big difference between some of Canada's long-running political satires (e.g. Royal Canadian Air Farce) and even the most light-hearted late night US comedies. The haha is based more on classic lampooning and less on "let's laugh at how stupid some people are". Many of the US shows have become so hostile that one can't be sure they're even trying to be funny anymore. This misfire with Kathy Griffin is a case of comedic hostility taken to an extreme. It is, in a sense, still satire, still intended to be an absurdity. I don't think anyone honestly believes the woman wants Pres. Trump decapitated. But it's undeniably hostile. It seems to be where political comedy is trending as the years roll on.

Sorry, can you explain this to me? As presidents go, the assassinated President John F. Kennedy is laughing at the supposed horror inflicted on trump and Obama by idiots.

Sorry, can you explain this to me? As presidents go, the assassinated President John F. Kennedy is laughing at the supposed horror inflicted on trump and Obama by idiots. Well as so many of us on the boards are so fond of saying how hate speech can lead to someone escalating to "action" from seeing or reading it, so can one idiot take it a step further, based on her photo op....... So true, and as you can remember there were many citizens very opposed to JFK although his assassination had nothing to do from the opposition, unless you want to add the crime syndicates and possibly the CIA? Lots of paranoid groups out there, but I do tend to stick to the script and assume Cuba and the Russians were involved, which might also be the witch hunt put in place by the CIA. apply multiple tin foil hats here

Oh dear.... it's been a bad couple of days for Kathy. Her buddy Al has dropped her like a hot potato and she's had to get a lawyer to defend herself from bullies. Franken was on cnbc yesterday defending her. All is good with them.

Do you have a link to show where you voiced opposition to Nigents comments? Was there even a thread here about that? Would u have started a thread here voicing ur opposition to kathy's photo if the thread wasn't already started? Was Nugents remarks as widely covered as kathy's? That's gotta be the dumbest argument ever- prove u thought Nugent was vile back in the day, even if u say now That what Nugent did back in the day was vile.,,,

I see it didn't take long for the hive mind to activate. Early on in this thread all agreed this was terrible, etc. But once the liberal talking points came out then everyone jumps on the Ted Nugent bandwagon. Independent thinking is a scary thing. Remembering past history isn't a scary thing. Waiting to be told about it and then parroting what u r told is.
