I'm in the 99% area and there are bad thunderstorms right now, 1.5 hours before we see the max effect here. Glad I didn't buy glasses.

We are settled in Oregon. Beautiful clear morning. Bought glasses weeks ago -the local store is sold out. I'll take the advice of NASA over that of someone's wife's dr.
If you can't watch, NASA is live streaming it on their FB page
Although the campground is full, it is spacious and doesn't feel crowded. We've enjoyed spending the last three days here.

I'm in the south and we will have 99.6% totality in my town. Sunny skies and no rain predicted for the eclipse time. It will be starting in about an hour here, peak will be about 2-1/2 hours and then another hour to clear. I'm watching from the comfort of my own home, mostly from the window of my sewing room because ...it's the south, it's humid, and it's HOT!
Schools are closed around here more as a protection from liability issue than anything, I think. Some businesses, mostly those who use delivery people, are going to be closed for a little while. Again, a bit of the CYA on their part. Traffic is supposed to be heavy on the highways. One town near me is expecting up to 250,000 people in the area. Glad I can just stay home and watch it!

We started at 9:05 with totality expected at 10:17. Beautiful clear day, no management at work, so we are taking turns slipping outside to watch. Management did give us glasses and it shutting the office down for about 20 minutes around totality so as long as work is getting done we are cool.

It's in full swing here. I couldn't resist have been sitting outside watching it. It's definitely not as bright out there right now. Some of my grandkids are watching, so I thought I'd better go see it, too. The shadows are eclipse-shaped. I think that is neat!

And it's over. Did the bugs go crazy where you guys are thinking it was night during totality?

I can just imagine what people in the olden days made of the eclipse. Witchcraft! Start rounding up the witches and prepare the pyres.
Or "The sun disappeared because of sin! Throw another virgin into the volcano!"

How's the weather in the PNW this morning? Is it going to be good for you? Excellent. We're in the sweet spot, away from the fog at the coast and the smoke from the fires. My mother-in-law lives in Salem. They had a little old lady viewing party with cinnamon rolls!

Throw another virgin into the volcano!" A CNN correspondent just said that a war happening a few centuries ago took the eclipse as a signal that the two sides were in trouble with "someone" and fighting the war needed to stop.

They always crazy loud here in my part of the south anyway. I listened for quiet, which is what I had heard would happen, but they were about like normal.
Zibazinski, I had forgotten the saying that hens would lay eggs again.
My daughter told that the 4 year-old granddaughter thought it was wonderful and wants to do it again tomorrow. LOL! We are in line for the next big one in 2024 so she'll just have to wait for that one.

It's pretty much over in La La Land. We only got *about* 50% coverage anyway. No appreciable decline in light, and no animals went crazy. But it was awesome to view

Saw about 80% totality here. One very interesting thing we noticed. Our front yard palm tree cast an eclipse shadow on the driveway! As we watched, we could see the pattern change as the sun disappeared, and the driveway was covered in this very cool quarter-moon pattern.

We had 58% of the sun covered here. No measurable change in light, although it did take on a different quality.

I remember looking at eclipses through smoked glass when I was a little girl.
My father would hold pieces of glass in a smokey fire until there was a layer of soot on them.

We were supposed to have 75% but I was surprised how much that was.... got cloudy right at the perk though just a little.
The 'with kids' thread had me a little scared... we were about 35 of us ... but the kids basically just played in the playground and occasionally ran over to put on glasses and give it a view. No issues.

Ok. All the kids I know were ok, but apparently the toddler in chief couldn't get it? Blerg. Check it under what happens when you don't believe in science.

Clouded up here then a thunderstorm when it was at its most covered (94%). Cleared up finally so we could see about 20% of the sun covered as the moon moved out of the way. Oh well. I can watch TV reruns of the event.

Bummer but yes you can watch it on tv. DS did and his girlfriend watched it on her computer. They both got the Salem Oregon one which is where I was.

Throw another virgin into the volcano!" I could have sworn that i saw a headline this morning related to a group claiming the cause of the eclipse is due to sin. I didn't read the article, just the impression i had while scrolling headlines. We must be living in the olden days if there are people that still believe this.
