You better get busy. I have already booked a camping spot in the path. Oregon state parks started taking reservations at midnight Nov 17 for campgrounds in the path. I booked a spot 20 minutes after midnight. By 8 am, all the available spots had been reserved.

This past August I started a thread about this eclipse ( August, 2017 Solar Eclipse Over Continental U.S. ). In the opening post is a link to an interactive map. Open the link and find your city/town on the map. It will give you the time and percent of coverage of the sun during the eclipse. Use your mouse to make the map bigger to find your viewing area. Interactive map

Also, if you want to directly view the eclipse (assuming it is a sunny day in your area), buy a piece of #14 welders safety glass or #14 welders glass goggles. Only #14 is dark enough to protect your eyes.
The welders glass can be bought on line or check at your local Home Depot or Lowes.

That's pretty cool! And, if we are talking about August, we have a fair chance of having clear skies (unlike January where the sun becomes some long forgotten memory)

Thanks for the link Tenn. I've bookmarked it. After reading it, I'm not sure I even want to try photographing it. A while back I tried to photograph a lunar eclipse. The results were very disappointing.

Looks like both Salem OR and Jackson Hole will get it.

I remember a solar eclipse as a kid and we watched it by putting mirrors in homemade cardboard periscopes, LOL.

It will still get a bit dark in both Massachusetts and Florida. A partial solar eclipse is still better than no eclipse.

I will get 93% coverage while my brother just south of Charlotte, NC will get 99%. I could drive three hours east to Nashville to get 100% obscurance.

But it'll be hot still. Might as well kill two birds with one stone. See family and the eclipse.

To stay away from the crowds, I was thinking Just South of Jay Em, Wyoming, East or West Highway 85 on Rd 12 or Rd 22. Aug 21 2017 At 11:48 MDT. It will last 2 minutes 30 seconds. Want to joint my little party,, or maybe you have a better idea! Every one is invited!

Heh heh!! I realized now how that sounded. Get a piece of glass and smoke it by holding it to a flame.

It's going to pass right over me. Anyone want to sit in the front yard with some beers?
