I see your point. I like Dr Carson's style, but he isn't experienced to be president and has a few ideas I don't agree with.

one small aside- i think Carson dropping out will HELP Trump, as he is the other "non-politician" in the race. IM(not so)HO, it will be only minor help. I think many of those who initially selected Carson over Trump as their choice did so seeing Carson as more humble (rightly or wrongly). I don't see them going for a loud mouth New Yorker. Maybe not going to anyone, just sitting it out.

Do you think Trump's numbers will go down after his remarks about the Pope? BTW I haven't seen a credible quote where the Pope named Trump. The comment on building walls or bridges can apply to everyone. He is a preacher after all. Trump can say he is a christian all he wants, but his personal attacks and language say otherwise. ETA. I was wrong. He made that comment in answer to a question about Trump, so it's clear by the context that he meant Trump. I think most Catholics are democrats anyway, so I doubt it would have much impact. I am a bit disappointed that he got involved in US politics.

I think if he did this I could actually stand to listen to the man for more than five minutes.
Well, and he would have to stop doing that weird duck lips thing when he talks. Freaks me out.

I think some would go to Trump, but I think the evangelical voters who like him (because Dr Carson is a very religiously devout person) would be more likely to go to Cruz or Rubio.
Trump, IMHO, would not appeal as much to someone who is very devout, especially with his whole 'used to be pro choice and only recently became anti-abortion' thing.

Yeah, the Carson supporters that I know are very religious, and support Carson because of the religious angle. They would not switch to Trump.

I saw an ad about Rubio this morning on Morning Joe - not sure who was paying for it.
It was scathing - it showed Rubio giving a speech about immigration and it would cut to Obama saying the exact same talking points. Like the were reading from the same script.
IMHO if any of the SC GOP voters have immigration as their major concern, Rubio is toast with them.

he is trending sharply higher. as i said before, i think he is being groomed as the giant slayer. now, that might not hold up- but that is how it looks right now. he trailed Cruz in 2nd by 10% a month ago, and now he is tied. it is surprising only in that i didn't expect him to do well in SC. i always figured Cruz would be the guy. Mea Culpa- I figured Cruz to be the one behind Trump in SC as well. I guess I didn't give the South Carolinians enough credit for political savvy.
When you look at it they have Haley and Sen. Graham- both serious and adult politicians, whether you care for their politics or not.
i really thought silly time would be over in December- but February will do.

glad to hear it. the sooner Trump is out of the race, the better.

Trump 33% +15 Cruz 18% +1 Rubio 17% +7 Bush/Kasich +0
Trump is now at a 2 month low. Rubio is at a record high for SC, and climbing. Bush and Kasich are battling for 4th.
more evidence for the same prediction already given. but one new poll shows Trump with only a 5% lead over Cruz.

oh, since the prediction is on page one:
Trump wins, but by less than 10% Rubio in second Cruz 3rd Kasich 4th Bush 5th- and if this happens, i PRAY that he drops out. but he probably won't Carson = last (hope he drops out too)

It was a Cruz ad, with a photo shopped picture of the President and Rubio shaking hands, and if I remember, they were shaking hands left handed. Cruz is nasty, and yet the Evangelicals will go over a cliff with him.

SC is getting tighter for Trump, and looser for Clinton. here are the latest polls: Trump: 33 = 16 point lead Cruz/Rubio: 17 (tied) Bush/Kasich: 10 (tied) Trump is falling, and everyone other than Cruz is rising. this is reminding me a lot of Iowa, except it is Rubio moving this time, not Cruz, and Trump's lead is much bigger. as i mentioned earlier in the Republican nomination thread, the more people drop out, the tighter it gets for Trump. in the last (5) polls, only ONE of them show him with more than a 13% lead. by the time the primary rolls around, he will be in single digits, in all likelihood. it is not hard to imagine that if Kasich or Bush were not in this race, he might possibly lose SC. since August 8th, Trump is up exactly 1%. meanwhile, Rubio is +12, Cruz is +14, Kasich is +7, and only Bush has fallen (-2). on the Democratic side, Clinton got two polls today that show her +30%. i think it is too much for Bernie to catch her. prediction: Trump wins by less than 10%, with Rubio in 2nd, and Cruz 3rd on GOP side. Clinton wins, but too early to tell by how much. edit: Rubio is doing much better than i expected. he must have a really well organized campaign. He was also endorsed by SC Governor Haley who is pretty well-liked here. I imagine that's given him a boost. She may be well liked, but she backed Rommney four years ago, and he did not win South Carolina.

Today, the Pope backed off the comments, explaining them. Trump IS good.

Rubio has the disadvantage of only having been married once. South Carolinian's seem to like them thrice married.

i really don't care for this narrative of why Trump is successful. he could be a blow-up doll this year, and get 34% of the vote. this is not about policy with Trump. just listen to the exit polling interviews. to a PERSON the people that vote for him are voting AGAINST THE PARTY. that is not going to win him the nomination.

Won't that depend on the Republican turn out? Trump was a distant second in Iowa and yet he had the highest vote total of any Republican candidate ever in the state, other than the man that beat him. If S. Carolina has a record turn out, it's conceivable Cruz got every available Evangelical vote but not enough of other voters to keep it close.
