senate.ca.gov/legislativeprocessStep 5: You Can Still Act After Your Bill Goes To The Governor The Governor has 12 days to sign, approve without signing, or veto a bill. A letter or phone call to the Governor's Office is appropriate to state your position on the bill. Governor signing bill If the bill is signed or approved without a signature, it goes to the Secretary of State to be chaptered. If the Governor vetoes the bill, a two-thirds vote in each house is needed to override the veto. The Governor's Office releases veto messages which explain the veto; these messages are available from the Governor's Office and on the Internet. If Brown does nothing it automatically becomes law. That may be the easiest way out for him

I'm more worried about them getting mugged Back to euthanasia, the govt has zero to do with MY feelings. They actually have a vested interest in keeping me alive. Alive, I pay their ridiculous taxes to support their parasitic causes and their bloated salaries and perks moreover, the euthanasia law doesn't FORCE you to kill yourself. it gives you the OPTION of doing it. if you want to stay hooked up to some machine, helpless and staring out at a world you can no longer taste or feel, be my guest. i don't. I'm in favor of wheelchair access to bridges I have no interest in a Stephen Hawking style existence- and it is only fair the ADA should allow me access so I can motor myself off of one if I live in a backwards ass state that for some reason wants to keep me alive against my wishes. No plans to be part of the vegetable garden either- is there a 'Republicans leave me alone' rider I can attach to my DNR so I don't end up like Schaivo?

(Sacramento, Calif. – Sept 25, 2015)...
Today Gov. Brown received the legislation, known as the End of Life Option Act (ABX2-15), authored by Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman, and coauthored by Senate Majority Leader Bill Monning and Senate Majority Whip Lois Wolk. Brown has 12 days, until Oct. 7, to sign or veto the bill. If he takes no action by midnight on Oct. 7, the legislation automatically becomes law.

Yay! Good for him! Happy for those Californians to whom this could mean the difference between life in misery and death with dignity.

This is what it comes down to -
The bill “is not an ordinary bill because it deals with life and death,” Brown wrote. “The crux of the matter is whether the state of California should continue to make it a crime for a dying person to end his life, no matter how great his pain or suffering.”

It's so very sad to watch someone you love suffer. Mother would have given anything to have been able to call her own shots during her last two years of life.

I have to think other states will follow California. My grandmother would have definitely chose this route had it been an option, instead she had an agonizing two months after the Dr's said there was nothing more they could do.

I'm so sorry about your grandmother, aj. That must have been painful for the entire family.

Can't have all those bloated corpses floating around. It's a public health hazard.

I do agree that other states will eventually follow along with this, esp. as the boomers age and some of them decide they really would prefer this option.

Between the socialist Millennial whackos, kale consumption and building houses under mudslides I am amazed the state has survived.
