I'm in favor of wheelchair access to bridges   I have no interest in a Stephen Hawking style existence- and it is only fair the ADA should allow me access so I can motor myself off of one if I live in a backwards ass state that for some reason wants to keep me alive against my wishes.  No plans to be part of the vegetable garden either- is there a 'Republicans leave me alone' rider I can attach to my DNR so I don't end up like Schaivo?

Brown received the legislation, known as the End of Life Option Act (ABX2-15), authored by Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman, and coauthored by Senate Majority Leader Bill Monning and Senate Majority Whip Lois Wolk. Brown has 12 days, until Oct. 7, to sign or veto the bill. If he takes no action by midnight on Oct. 7, the legislation automatically becomes law.

I understand, dj, and my best wishes to your remaining grandparent. It's so very sad to watch someone you love suffer. Mother would have given anything to have been able to call her own shots during her last two years of life.

I have to think other states will follow California. My grandmother would have definitely chose this route had it been an option, instead she had an agonizing two months after the Dr's said there was nothing more they could do.

I'm sorry.  My Dad is 77 and I am so not ready to lose him. 

I do agree that other states will eventually follow along with this, esp. as the boomers age and some of them decide they really would prefer this option.
