I've been waiting for this thread. I'm also waiting for some of the birthers whose panties were all in a wad about Obama to explain why their argument doesn't apply to Cruz. For the record, I was not a birther. His mother being an American (even though a socialist) was still good enough for me.

Oh, and for the record, I could not vote for Ted Cruz.
I would have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary. Better to know the enemy you know, rather than the idiot you don't.

... I agree. If he doesn't meet the requirements of "natural born citizen", then No, he is not entitled to run for the office of President. Back when the issue was being discussed with regard to President Obama, I researched those "requirements" and was not able to find where they are clearly defined in law.

Why should right wing conservatives be upset? They lost that argument on the commie, non-American Muslim candidate, so it must be ok now. Can't beat em, join em! I know posters will not take this as sarcasm, but just sayin Besides, dj is just trying to get a rise out of posters who are no longer here....... huh? no. i am not trying to get a "rise" out of anyone (i don't even know who you are talking about). i am just pointing out that it is not logically consistent to take up this argument about Obama and NOT Cruz. unless you are racist, of course.

Well, for the record, I never bought into the bith nonsense with Obama. From what I've read, mr. Cruz is also an American, so it also is not an issue. To me, the law states you must be a U.S. citizen by birth and not obtain citizenship later in life. that is indeed what the law says. you have to be obsessed with the minutae to get to where Orly Taitz is.

I also heard him on one of the talking head shows this morning telling the interviewer that since his wife quit her job, their family health insurance would be covered by Obamacare! That should be his political death knell right there. Since his platform is abolishment of Obamacare, that's some spiffy mental gymnastics right there. yeah, it will be interesting to see how he will deal with being confronted with questions about that.....assuming he ever IS confronted.

Back when the issue was being discussed with regard to President Obama, I researched those "requirements" and was not able to find where they are clearly defined in law. it is a twisty path, bills. basically, this is how it works. first of all, you have the constitution, which states that you must be natural born. since the constitution does not define what that means, you have to rely on case law. the case law, for the most part, says that you must be born of US PARENTS (plural) to meet this standard. so, it is on this very thin wire that birthers balance. the rest of us argue that this matter was really decided by the ratification of the 14th amendment, and the subsequent fleshing out of "natural born" in USC 1401 (they use the phrase "native born". birthers deny that these terms are equivalent, but most legal scholars make no such distinction). so, there you have it. it is a flimsy case, which is why Obama is president.

A statement that includes the words, "the rest of us argue that ..." is opinion. i was speaking argumentatively. there is the "birther position" and there is "the rest of us". i wasn't referring specifically to you, bills, only to the argument. if you think there is a third leg to the argument, i would like to hear it.

Fine. What does Richardpedia say? For the record, my quip was a take-off on the State Farm commercial "it's on the internet so it must be true"... you know... Bonjour?

I'm hoping the S. Lassie is aware of the humour in all the posts about Rafe and his status. Just a bunch of posters woofing on birther hypocrisy.

I recognize the humor - just surprised at how outraged some are that he's considering running and hoping to win.
Don't you have the right to vote for the candidate of your choice?
I don't know why this is even an issue.

Who is outraged?
Of course we have the right to vote for the candidate of our choice. Who would choose Rafe?
It isn't , as he isn't going anywhere close to the White House. A circus tent maybe.

this is what the Birthers should be saying, and they should be fighting tooth and nail to have him striken from the ballot. his legal standing is FLIMSIER than Obama's. not only did he not have TWO parents that were US citizens, he was not even born in the US. therefore, if Obama was not qualified on that basis, then Cruz is even less qualified. where is the outcry? or were those on the left right when they claimed that this was primarily motivated by racism? Tough call on the racism, since he's 50/50, black/white.

Tough call on the racism, since he's 50/50, black/white. Really? I know scientifically that is true, but I don't think even today it is societally. The man is black as far as that goes. Maybe true in how he looks, but 50/50 racially. Dj did say racism.
