The cricket bat was discussed on CBS news this morning. I obviously have no idea since I"m not there, but the prosecutor in the case is saying it is.

Or a lamp, or a light on a motion detector, or a flash light, or one of those stick and click battery lights that you can hang on the wall, or glow sticks, or install pot lights, or hang a sting of christmas lights around the dining room. There are 100 options that would not involve shooting a gun into a dark room when it is far more likely that it is your dog or a family member.

We have a string of Christmas lights behind the top moulding on the kitchen cabinets and keep that on when we go to bed. It's enough light to see what's going on in the living room but not enough to be annoying if you want to sleep in there.

What I read said he used the bat to get into the bathroom once he realized it was her in there since the door was locked (and, horribly I know, I am assuming he couldnt just kick the door in).

But wouldn't you want to know if that someone was a dangerous stranger, or your kid sleepwalking? Lights help a lot to make that determination.

So he wakes up terrified by noises in the bathroom and doesn't reach over to see if girlfriend in in bed beside him? How big of a bed does he have that he could easily determine if she was there or not? Then he says he called out for her to call the police but she doesn't respond. Again, it doesn't occur to him that it may be because she wasn't in bed and that maybe she was in the bathroom but does not check. Then he puts on his legs to go meet the intruder with deadly force thinking the whole time she's blissfully sleeping, but doesn't take the time to nudge her awake so she can protect herself or help him but instead leaves her there vulnerable and oblivious? Helluva guy.

Too bad it didn't happen a week later when she had her reality show. Then the cameras would have captured the whole thing.

I bet the ratings were way higher than they would have been. Maybe this was a publicity stunt.

Even if some intruder was in the bathroom (?) is it the common reaction to shoot them dead before even seeing who they are/what their intentions are? Could even be some poor racoon or something? ...well, it is common to call out a warning or fire a warning shot... according to him, he called out and got no answer...
I know in tx you shot to kill if someone burbs out of turn, not sure about the rest of the world. ...burbs out of turn? ...my responses in blue...

Do people really sleep in pitch black rooms? Maybe it's 'cause I'm a city girl - there's enough ambiant light from the windows (with blinds and sheers) to make out stuff in my bedroom... even if you need a room to be dark enough to sleep - they sell those green or blue 'glow' night lights. I've got a couple of those thru out the house so my Little Black Cat doesn't accidently cause permanent brain damage to me when I stumble over her in the darker parts of the house and slam my head into a door jamb or the floor. The hall way to the bathroom is dark as is the hall way to the kitchen (for a midnight snack or drink or to look out the window to the yard to see what's making a ruckus in the night- racoons? neighbor's kids? deer? Big Foot? Chupacabra?)
I can't imagine waking up in a room so dark I couldn't tell if someone was or wasn't in bed with me... now THAT's terrifying.
ADDED: I'd bet it's whatever drugs he was taking - I'm guessing steriods...

He claims he was not in bed when he heard the intruder. I don't want to believe he did it on purpose, but as much as he tries to make his story jive, it doesn't. That said, one article i read, the prosecution said that it was up to Pistorius to prove it was not premeditated murder.

...fwiw, seems to me like there's shadowy doubt to the prosecutor's version... and shadowy doubt to Pistorius' version... ...but here in the US, I'm pretty sure the prosecutor doesn't get the benefit of the doubt... I can live with that...

I'm sure it has been brought up, but apparently many athletes take steroids (shocking, I know)...not only does it make their dicks shrivel up and bulk them up and give them heart conditions, but apparently there is something called "Roid Rage".
He lost it.
She seemed to be genuinely in love with him, and a beautiful lady...having said that, South Africa has become one of the most violent countries on earth.
The Blacks are still dirt poor...and they want revenge or money for nothing. They will have their revenge and then starve to death.
I'm so sick of people who potentially have so much and can't take care of themselves. It will end up being another Rhodesia...once the bread basket of Africa, now just another pitifully corrupt starving country. Sad...

I'm a little confused by the "I'm innocent because I thought I was murdering someone else" defense.
Also not sure about the burglar bars and ladders thing. I have a ranch, we have no burglar bars. The windows lock. If he'd heard the window break or something maybe that's more believable. But if there's a window open in our place in the summer I don't decide I'm going to kill whoever is making noise in the house when I have no idea where my wife is at.

I wasn't under the impression that she did. I haven't really followed this but I thought I heard at some point that she surprised him. IDK. I have a dog that would shred anyone who came in my house that didn't belong here but I think you also get used to the rhythm of your house. There are certain noises I expect and others that would make me suspicious enough to get up and take a look around. As I said, its a moot point with our dog, but in years past I've busted my kid coming or going when they weren't supposed to be.

She didn't live there, but she was visiting, they had dinner there that night. He knew she was there. I think the "surprising him" thing came out early when he claimed he thought she was an intruder, so everyone assumed she must have snuck in at night because that's the only real way an intruder story makes sense.
He also knew she was there, he hadn't forgotten, because he claims he yelled out for her to call the police after he fired the shots.
I'm kind of torn because his story sounds so ridiculous, but at the same time if it's a lie it's a terrible lie also.

This is going to be like the OJ thing. We will never really know what happened. And there will always be a group of people that are sure he is a mad-man and guilty of murdering her in cold blood because of some silly fight. And there will always be a group of people that are sure it went down exactly as he said, and it was all a terrible misunderstanding.
It must be pretty easy to prove that he shot through the door of the toilet. So, was he chasing her through the house, and she tried to lock herself in there to get away from him? Totally possible.

Not to defend him by any means, I have woke up and forgotten if DH is home or not. He travels several days a week so there are times when I have to think if he is actually home.
