Different strokes or different folks. I am happy with my phone choice. They do replace the cases once. So counting the ones mailed to us, we have gone through 8 in less than two years. Not a reliable product. Maybe if you cooked your kids would know the difference between food and non-food items. And I thought I was a bad mom....

I watched a friend at work drop his iPhone with the Otterbox case from a 15 foot landing where it smacked a step or 2 along the way down to the concrete floor. Picked it up and still worked perfectly. The same guy had his phone knocked off a cart, falling 3 feet to the floor, and shattered. He will NEVER be without an Otterbox again. And I never saw cheapie covers over his ports.

In my house:
iPhone = 0 Other Smartphones = 2 (1 Samsung S3, and a Droid Razr X) Kindle Fire = 1, but may soon be 2 plus 1 cheapie Coby tablet to test DS's responsibility level
ETA: This is mostly due to my (and DH's) distaste for anything Apple. The kids have no preference as of yet, and even if they did they would not be purchased on Mom's dime. Something that high $ value they will earn for themselves.

I manage a highway heavy road construction company and the guys here all have otterbox cases. They've driven over those damn things before and the phones keep working just find. Dropped on concrete, kicked off the paver, driven over by a skidsteer, etc. All still working just fine.
Of course I have nothing to judge this on except for the two dozen guys at work with smartphones and my complete klutz of a husband all with otterbox cases so what do I know.

Yep my brother works on trains. They've done most of that to their iPhones. They still work somehow.

I don't know what in the world you people do to Otterboxes. My brother got his a year ago and it is fine. He wanted to replace the screen cover so I found a defender case on Amazon for $20 and bought it. The case itself is just fine. All of his friends have their phones in Otterboxes and these guys are hard on phones. They get dropped on concrete and everything else. The cases have held up. My husband used his for 18 months working in a dirty machine shop. The rubber back was all scratched up, but otherwise it was fine and the phone inside was perfect. That's the first phone he's had that lasted that long since he's really hard on them. We each got new Galaxies in November and put them both in Otterboxes.

The other, other white meat. I want my baby back baby back baby back... ribs!
I have a genuine dislike for Apple products too. Nevertheless, in our house we do have several smartphones. DW's office uses Apple, so she has a work iPhone and iPad. For our personal use we have Android phones, and I have an Android tablet.

Wench is a great cook as long as it can be microwaved. Where did you think all the popcorn came from??? and even then you burnt the bottom of the bag, I'm guessing the two year old will have to clean up that mess

He's 6 now. I was referring to the next door neighbor's kid, I know your kids don't do shit.

Uncle IHOP taught them well. Read the single Mom thread, that's all us men are good for laying on couches, drinking beer, and yelling at our wives for more chips and salsa.

Actually that was what hurt me most, I'm a virile SOB and expect some recognition for that, there would be little bastard IHOPs running through every major city in this great nation if I had my way...

We have 3 iphones. 2 4S and 1 5. I like it ok, but since I can't take it in to work, I don't use it as much as I could. Both kids love theirs. We all just got new ones in Sep - Oct. I decided to get one also, because in 2 years when the contract expires, I'm kicking them both to the curb. They will have to get their phones on their own dime

I have one but I have a love-hate relationship with it, lately the hate side seems to be winning.....but now that I learned how to download podcasts that may be changing....
