You also have to consider Doxie age group. We went to a party on Monday and seriously it did seem like we all had iPhones. About 30 of us between the age of 24-35. In my age group it seems it is either iPhone or the droid and iPhone tends to be the choice 7 out of 10 times. most places I've been in the past year I start to wonder if I'm the only one who doesn't have an iPhone (or smart phone).

DH has a Samsung note for personal and a iPhone for work. I use a note as well. A lot of people i know, including me, have given up their iPhones for droids.

I don't think Doxie's in that demographic anymore.

Off topic but very funny - speaking of age groups and phones: we went to a large party (private room in a restaurant) over the NY holiday. The party coordinator made everyone stack their phones, face down, on top of each other on the bar. Then he announced that the first person who checked their phone had to buy the whole party a round of drinks!

Well, we are 37, so not that far out from C's age group. We have two dumb prepaid cells. I'd rather spend my money on something else

Carl is on to something with his "age group" thing.
Of my peer group and siblings. Everyone except my brother has an iPhone- my brother hates Apple products. We are all between the ages of 27 and 39. DH, DS, Dsis, BIL, BFF, BFF's DH, DH's BFF, DH's BFF's DW, all of DS' friends, and probably 7 or 8 other couples that we hang out with on a regular basis. At a family reunion last summer all of my cousins that were there (14 first cousins) and their wives all had iPhones. Again- it was only my brother that didn't have one. Same age group as above- probably 25 to 40.
My dad gave my mom one for Christmas because her old flip phone was dying.

me iPhone (3G) DH iPhone (4) DS2 iPhone (4S) DD other
+ 2 "dumb" phones for the other two kids
ETA: I resisted getting a smart phone for a LONG time. I got mine exactly a year ago because of DH's accident, I wanted to be able to access my email.
Mine was cheap (to purchase). I got a 3G right after the 4S came out so they were selling the 3Gs for 100e, with a 50e rebate.

Mich - I have a suggestion/caveat for this count. How many people who have iPhones wouldn't if their employer didn't pay for them?

I JUST got my first iPhone in August and got the 3GS cuz it was free...lol, I am not one who NEEDS the newest model of something. Although, if I'd waited 3 dang weeks til the 5 came out, I could've gotten the 4 for free, but, that's life...

I have an iPhone 5...think its totally overrated. DH has a Samsung Galaxy 3. I miss my android but when I broke it I went with the iPhone. When it bites the dust, I am going back to my android.

3 phones all dumb, so definitely no iPhones. Sis has one though. Parents have 2 stupid phones also, so they cancel her out. Thinking about a tracphone for DD when I get her one. Seems I can't add another line to my cell plan. I'm trying to not upgrade other phones too so I can get out of the contract time by Oct.

Here if you have a cell phone contract, you accumulate points, so you can get a new phone every two years without paying anything near full price. So I paid 50e for my 3S, DH paid 79e for his 4. Not sure how much DS2 paid for his 4S. But our iPhones did NOT cost us "hundreds", for sure.

Between the two of us;
1 German i phone (no service) 2 Samsung Galaxies (Ting Service) 1 ancient Razr (no service) 1 Crackberry from DH's work they didn't want it back (no service)
I would have been o.k. with my old Razr (I would use it when I would do my property visits in the US) but it's a PITA to text. I'm not a big texter myself but even my old fart girlfriends text more than call.

I see no need for me to pay for a data plan on a phone. There is free wireless practically everywhere these days. I have a kindle fire and it travels with me a lot. Between having wireless at home, at work and and on every street corner I just don't see the need to pay for a data plan for the rare occasions where I might not have computer access.
