Maybe not on YM. As you have to know the average age on this board is not young, but if you look at he phones people talk on, most are iPhones. Go to any store and the iPhone cases out number all the other cases combined. That is only because IPhone is the more common phone. Even coach sells iPhone cases and only iPhone cases. The phones that are out and used alot so you can see them tend to be smart phones. Those of us with dumb phones probably only use them when necessary so we aren't always calling people, playing games, rearranging pics, etc. like those with smart phones. I'm young, I'm just older than you. I have a dumb cellphone and I'd like an Iphone or smart phone but its not in the budget right now. Lastly, cases for things tend to follow the price of an item. Since Iphones are pricey and its users tend to be very religious about using and keeping it many manufacturers have assumed correctly that they can make more money on Iphone cases in general than picking various Droid products to make cases for. Other - 1

I do not have a coach case, I was using it as an example of how iPhones are the most common phone.

Other - 1 I got DD a case for her iPhone 4s for $3.29 plus shipping (total less than $5) from an Amazon affiliate.

I think the reason there are so many cases sold for smart phones is because of how expensive they are. Quite simply the most I have paid for a phone is $50. Why would I spend almost that much to protect it? ;D But people who buy expensive IPhones probably would spend the money to get a case for them. I know I never looked at a case for anything until I got the Kindle for my son. I have had some sort of case on every phone I have ever had. I got my first phone, a big Motorola flip phone in 1994. Seriously the size of a brick and it would not fit in a pocket. It had this huge fake leather/ plastic case. Thankfully phones and cases have improved over the years.

I got a faux leather case for my first Kindle Fire. It was fine. The Kindle Fire HD is so thin I am seriously considering an Otterbox when they come out. My brother's iPhone and iPad are both in Otterboxes. If I lost my mind and ended up with an iPhone, I'd buy an Otterbox, not a Coach case. I would not buy either. We have bought four otter boxes and they do not last. The rubber stretches and the port covers tear off with use. The longest one we have had is 6 months. Being out in heat is even harder on the cases. I currently have a speck case that I got at five below until I find something better.

In that Stone Age era (tech-wise), most phone were of substantial size, and they, like other technical marvels, have improved over time. Still does not mean you have to buy one every time the new model comes out. Or a name-brand case to stick it in. Generic works, used works, and year-old works.
Oh, and for the record, Otter Box does actually stand behind their product with a decent warranty:

I do not have a coach case, I was using it as an example of how iPhones are the most common phone. If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you? I have an iphone because I love apple products. It started when I first got an iPod video. They have gotten even cooler since then. I carried an itouch for several years prior to Verizon offering the iPhone and frankly wifi cannot be found on every corner as many suggest. The iPhone solves that issue for me.

They do replace the cases once. So counting the ones mailed to us, we have gone through 8 in less than two years. Not a reliable product.

BTW, I have no problem with finding signals for my iPod. At home, at work, at friends' houses, and yes, in many many public places. Is it slightly less convenient on occasion? Sure. But not inconvenient enough to justify an iPhone and data plan in my budget.

Let me rephrase that: Otter Box makes a great product with a decent warranty, provided that their products are not treated like some of your other possessions. Your vehicles, for example.

Interesting, the majority of the people I know who have iPhones are 40+ because they can actually afford them. Also it was recently reported that the iPhone is no longer the most popular smart phone. The first person I knew who got an iPhone was my dad!!! My dad is so not tech savvy either. The only young person I know with an iPhone is my 21 year old niece and she bought hers refurbished. I guess my dad's employees have iPhones and 2 of them are under 40, but I'm pretty sure my dad paid for them. He did buy them all iPads 2 years ago.
For the tally - no iphones. But 2 other smart phones - 1 droid and 1 windows. I wish we had been smart and each gotten on the same OS, but we each got what we liked.

McDonald's, but I could easily have to drive 10 miles to even get to one. I value the convenience and save well over the $24 a month using my iPhone for coupons in my email, checking prices online, finding restaurant deals, etc.

I guess that I have difficulty wrapping my brain around the fact that the state of MD and the federal government pay for your children's health insurance, that YOU do not have health insurance on yourself, but you consider your iPhone a need.
Your priorities are incredibly screwed up.
I can afford it, but I do not think it is necessary to be wired24/7. I don't have such a job that it is necessary to be wired 24/7.....and quite frankly, I'm not sure I want to be.

All the people I know (my mother included) have had the same results. Buy an otterbox and use it for 6 months then post pictures.

You save $24 a month and use that to justify a $100 a month (or more) iphone? Try the math on this one....

I don't know what in the world you people do to Otterboxes. My brother got his a year ago and it is fine. He wanted to replace the screen cover so I found a defender case on Amazon for $20 and bought it. The case itself is just fine.
All of his friends have their phones in Otterboxes and these guys are hard on phones. They get dropped on concrete and everything else. The cases have held up.

Some companies pay people to try and destroy their products.
