i blame congress for this. both parties. the president is pretty clearly echoing the US public on this issue. if they would simply follow his lead on it, the FC problem would be solved TODAY. Correct. Presidents approval number continue to climb and Republicans continue to fall. there is something i find really irritating about this whole thing. people are constantly asking the president to lead. but when he DOES, and NOBODY FOLLOWS, he gets blamed for THAT TOO. make up your minds, America. you either have a president who leads or follows.

Here I thought it was the job of an elected official to follows the dictates of those who elected them. For most in the GOP, they campaigned on not raising taxes but instead focus on cutting spending and thus they are doing what their constituents sent them to DC to do.
It's sad what is happening but not unexpected. There is no compromise because there is simply none that exists. One side wants to raise taxes on as many people as possible and keep spending high as they craft cradle to grave government. They other wants to shrink government and restore control to the people, not beaucrats and out of touch politicians.
This is a battle for the soul of our nation and the direction it will take for a generation: big government or small, light taxes or heavy, personal responsiblity or government control. The choices are stark, binary, and allow no compromise by its nature.

Republicans should "peel off the war paint" and take the deal he's offering, Obama said sharply at the White House. He buttressed his case by noting he had won re-election with a call for higher taxes on the wealthy
He lost the popular vote and only won by managing razor thin margins in some of the battle states. Obama and his philosophy hardly has a mandate. Indeed, the GOP who were elected or re-elected campaigned on the opposite; their claim is just as valid.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: if Obama and other liberals want to pay higher taxes, they can write a check and send it in. Leave the rest of us alone!

From extremists.....those who have a my way or the highway attitude... those who are focusing on saving the Koch Brothers and George Soros from income tax increase so we can all have huge tax increases...
We can lay this just as much at Obama's feet; he could spare everyone from these tax hikes (as opposed to those in his Obamacare bill which are pretty scary) if he could stop his class warfare. and attacks on producers, professionals, and job creators.
Justice for all or justice for none; why should a certain segment have to keep paying so much in taxes? This is especially true given the history that no matter how much we give to the government, it is never enough: 1. Income tax 2. AMT 3. Raiding Social Security Trust Fund 4. Tax Withholding
Etc... all done because "government needed it." Yet no matter what we give to the government, it is NEVER enough and they will demand more and grow more, like a cancer that chokes off the nation's lifeblood and vitality. If we gave Obama everything he wanted, would the budget balance? NO! They would simply come by later and demand even more as they have done in the past EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I stand corrected. I was watching the election coverage and when Barry was ceded the win, Romney was ahead in the popular vote. I never followed up.
This is the difference between myself and those who I go against: I can admit when I'm wrong and go by the facts. Now if only Barry and crew could do that, as when they claim that the deficit is due to not taxing enough even though tax rates in 2007 vs today have stayed the same yet the deficit jumped by almost 10 fold.

That's kinda sad that five million more Americans chose to go with a guy who had a 4 year record of failuire compared to a man with a history of turning around companies, events, and states. America is truly lost, its people riddled with greed and envy.
Fortunately, the bars on the cage have not closed... yet.

Lol. Funny.
I was reading today how re pubs, now that Obama has agreed to 400k+ as the threshold for tax increases, they re using that as the base and want negotiations to go from that Baer... Ie, once again they have no idea how to negotiate, they are completely unwilling to do so, childish, childish.... Grrrr...

I think that the phrase "raising taxes" is but semantics. The taxes will go back to what they were before Bush instituted cuts for a limited amount of time, the time is expiring. All knew it was certain those tax cuts would expire.
And Obama was going to let them expire, raising everyone's taxes, even as he smugly claimed that those making under 250K (actually only married types, for singles it's 200K) wouldn't see their taxes go up "one dime."
This was a blatant lie that he was never called on by the MSM; big surprise.
Now he is claiming that he wants to make protect those cuts for those making under 250K/200K which is also a blatant lie; had he truly wished this, he would have done so his first day on the job. With a Democrat congress and senate, it would have been childsplay. Yet, he did not. Instead he passed Obamacare that is filled with tax hikes that, many that will fall upon the middle class in one form or another.
Kinda funny really how Obama went from claiming the Bush tax cuts were "just for the rich" and now he wants to save them for those who "are not rich." Talk about semanatics! Heck, talk about lies!
These two sides will never see eye to eye. Ideology is obviously more important than coming to a solution that is best for the entire country to achieve the stated goal of deficit and debt reduction. The solution has to be equitable, which is not synonymous with fair.
Sounds pithy but not accurate. Both sides disagree because their idealogy is key to what they truly believe is best for the entire nation. GOP believes in small government, more personal responsbility, and less taxes. Democrats believe in Big government and that it's ok to confiscate wealth from those who "don't need it."
Regardless, neither side is offering the medicine that America needs which is either massive tax hikes on pretty much everyone or massive spending cuts across the board. Seriously, the sequestration that everyone is freaking out, from a spending POV, is just a joke. It's about 55 billion/year for military and 55 billion/year for domestic or 110 billion total. Out of a roughly 3.8 TRILLION dollar budget. That is what is scaring everyone?
Wow. What a joke.

So no one to blame. We vote for them with our willingness.. What we think the guy will be an power will do the things as our personal belief....we are looking at the mirror. But it will eventually sort it self out. Because, we are the people not going to stand by it.

Ameiko...the question was asked about your claim that Obama lost the popular vote..you ignored it...for your information he won both popular..the electoral..he has a mandate..yet he still supposedly offered to increase the amount earned before raising their taxes..$400,000 was supposedly mentioned..to me that is a compromise... I take it your one of those who's income is over one million...thus you would pay a bit more over that amount..I believe it's about 5 %..of the amount OVER one million..if so , can't you afford it..and if not, one of those who's earnings are over that amount....why are you getting so worked up for..got to learn to calm down and relax a bit..especially when a event doesn't concern you. All this can change my friend..just go win a election and then you and yours could reinstate the tax cuts...till then..to act as the GOP has been doing...it will only, IMHO, get worse for them... By the way , are you finally willing to admit Obama did win the popular vote or are you still waiting for a recount...?

Yet your putting out your ideas of how the country has gone wrong and what should be the way of doing things ? Unbelievable..

Why is it that every time one of our political hot-air bags wins an election, we say that he or she 'has a mandate'? I don't recall voting for Fearless Leader in November based upon Issue A or B that I wanted to see pushed-through according to Obümble's perspective... I DO recall voting for him because he was ever-so-slightly less objectionable than Mittens... And I don't recall any of the other several dozen folks whom I know - whom also voted Dem this time - ceding a particular approach or 'mandate' to the guy... More like 'stop kowtowing to foreign princes - stop apologizing for us abroad - and do what you can to stop the economic hemorrhaging before the end of your shift'... But nothing as dramatic as a 'mandate', insofar as I can discern...

When someone calls my expression as" rant, creative fact". You are giving others to chance to attack you. Perhaps, you like it that way. Just like some in our government.

Who really cares at this point...the media likes great dramatic analogies...it is a slope.
The funny thing here is when we were all paying taxes in the Clinton years, the country was stellar...Bush comes alone and gives you a little bit more pocket change and, we are struggling?

Having said that, this fiscal cliff thing is a made up nightmare...the world will not end. Trust me on this.

But nothing as dramatic as a 'mandate', insofar as I can discern... Mandate, shmandate...point is the one who gets the most votes or in the one for the top job, the most electoral is the winner...and that means , IMHO..he gets the job of being the top dog with the agenda , naturally with the checks and balances that our system provides so we don't get dictatorships... As far as following what the people want and so doing..that's a different story..many times the people ,, not having all the facts and info , make wrong choices..some times they are just plain wrong... I don't expect my elected ones , if the ones I voted for are the winners..to push my agenda and vote as I would want all the time.....just make the best decision possible with all the facts known and if things change, to not be afraid to change ones mind and go in another direction.. Bush felt any change would show weakness...not that he ever got my vote but even if he did ..that type of thinking IMHO, is wrong..to not make changes when needed is just plain stupid.. If a elected one is so far off from what I want / believe and the results are not proving him/ his decisions , correct, then next time he/she is up for election they don't get my vote..no biggie..
