So curses again to all of you on the buffet thread who got me thinking about food again. I'm finding that now I'm in my mid-40s, it's harder to lose any weight that I put on. And it's appearing in new, horrible places. In the past, it wasn't a huge deal to drop 5-10 pounds, so I didn't worry too much about those types of swings. Lately, though, not so much. So since I'm very comfortable with the amount I eat and with my level of physical activity, it seems logical to focus on the only other metric there is - my height. At 5'3", the recent addition of 5-10 pounds have not been kind and seem unwilling to go away, but at 5'9" or so, I'd be smokin' hot. Being a logical YMer, I've decided to keep up with the eating and activity I'm comfy with and start working on just growing a few inches. Just started this week, will let you know how it goes.

I think I will join you in that endeavor. When I reach 6'3", I will be the perfect weight.

Being a tall girl growing up kinda sucked but as an adult, there are definitely advantages. I can pile on more lbs than the average person before it shows....not that I do it purposely but the holidays can be rough.

Yeah, I remember the first time I realized how differently weight sat on short vs. tall girls. I had lost 8 pounds and had a friend (who is almost 6' tall) exclaim how awesome I looked and ask if I'd lost 20 or 30 pounds.

I'm 5'11" My BMI is normal but I feel best when I weigh about 8 lbs less than I do at the moment. I am trying to those 8 lbs so I can pile them back on from Thanksgiving to NYE.

Milee, I hear you (I'm 5'2" on a tall day). The utter irony is that all the dieting I did in my early teens to try to keep my weight down is probably what kept me so short. My dad isn't particularly tall, but my brother is 6'0" and my mom and sister are 5'5". Meanwhile I hit my adult height in about 6th grade.

milee! Its not age! Its your height... You need to gow taller honey. I am 5'8" and I have no problem losing weight if I stop eating. I think for taller people food distribution goes longer way so we don't get 'all this in those places'. So you have to figure out something like stretching or hanging on some poll...good luck!

I lost 40 lbs this past year and still wear the same size jeans. The only thing that has changed is that I have less back fat.

My current plan is wellbutrin. I was on prozac, gained 60 lbs, and have lost 14 lbs in two weeks on wellbutrin. I believe that was enough to take me out of the obese category.

I want in. Sure, I could stand to lose a few pounds. But, my real problem is that mentally I am a 6'2 Amazon in a petite woman's body. Seriously, my personality so does NOT match my physical stature. There are a lot of people in my life who are lucky I didn't cut them for calling me "cute" long past my early childhood years.

Milee...I think you're a genius. You write the Milee Diet book, and I'll pose for the before/after pictures. ( the short me/tall me!)

I think I read somewhere that they were looking at Wellbutrin as a weight loss med. One of the ways I can easily drop weight is to drink lots of water. I can lose 8-10 lbs in a week or so just by making sure I drink a least a gallon a day. That is if I haven't been doing it on a regular basis. I can maintain my weight much easier if I make sure I'm drinking enough water. I have a Brita pitcher that I force myself to drink on a regular basis. Some days I love water, most days I hate it and its a chore to drink but its easier than starving myself.

I love this strategy.
So far, for me, being pregnant has worked-I've dropped 6 lbs, since one of my food aversions right now is apparently -sweet things-. Sadly, this has not stopped me from outgrowing my pants, just a little bit.

I started a great weight loss plan of my own.
It starts with
I had no appetite at the start of my pregnancy and lost weight. Then I had the baby. Now, being a working mom with a toddler and baby, I just don't have time to eat. I'm down about 8 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight.

I've just been working out and watching what I eat. Lame. I think I'll just add a couple of inches of height instead!

Meghan, working out and watching what you eat is not at all lame and I'm doing that as well. The problem is that the same level of eating and about 2x the historic pattern of working out is failing to produce any results. So I'm forced to consider other options. As a YMer, I'm too cheap to consider buying new clothes.

If you really want to be budget-conscious, I have heard that ice cold showers will help you lose weight. And they will save money Or you could do what I did & nurse a kiddo with a hollow leg for 14 months. Got down to 10lbs under pre-pregnancy weight (but gained 5lbs back since I stopped...ughgh). Guess its time to join kgb's method and go for kiddo #2!

I need to grow a few inches too...then I will be perfect! I am 5'1 and weight definitely looks different on us short ladies than it does on the tall ones.
I would like to lose 15 lbs....or grow like 5 inches....
