Cars were lining up at the gas stations and a Wal-mart near by had almost empty shelves.

I am preparing to leave earlier for my commute to work [usually 1 hr 15 min] and may be up to 2 hours minimum.

You are going to drive a normal hour and 15 minute commute during a blizzard? That is worse than buying 5 gallons of milk and 5 shovels.

There was an article online somwhere yesterday that quoted someone (I think in St. Louis) as saying that people were "freaking out" over the coming snow/ice storm. Yeah it might inconvenience people for a little while, but it's not worth freaking out over.

People have been freaking out around me trying to clear their roofs of snow. Snow rakes were sold out and people were waiting for hours at stores who were supposed to be getting new shipments in.

Yeah it might inconvenience people for a little while, but it's not worth freaking out over. It can be if it turns into an ice storm and there is a massive power outage followed by below zero temperatures - which is what is being predicted here

During the Blizzard of '77, Buffalo's Mayor Griffin famously told everyone to "stay home from work and get a 6-pack". I have lived by that credo ever since.

Um, absolutely nothing. Snow is a fact of life here. I don't see any reason to freak out.

As long as we have beer and wine we can survive any blizzard

Like I said, they're inconvenient, but not something to freak out about. Prepare, and then stay home. Freaking out doesn't serve any useful purpose.

I just finally broke and bought a shovel at Home Depot. No other concessions to the snowpocalypse.
I did get milk yesterday but that was because I ran out. Today I need to get some eggs...but no biggie if I don't.

No blizzard here. Yay! ;D There's a prediction of 1/3 to 2/3 inches of ice so my only prep will be to have candles and matches easily available if I need them. Ice. Boo! FYI Snerd some of us have small kitchens and don't keep much stuff. After roughly a week I would have to live on just pasta and tuna.

I need eggs too, but I agree that it's no big deal if I don't get them.

That's better than trying to make tomato soup out of a cup of hot water and ketchup.

I wish I had bought those hiking boots I was thinking about earlier this year. When I get thru' this I'm definitely buying a good pair of hiking boots that I can wear in snow and rain....
