Text from a friend getting tired of reading cancellations (and receiving phone calls asking) during his radio broadcast: "Duh people, EVERYTHING is cancelled".

Last year after one of DC's massive snow storms my brother went in a Safeway as they were reopening. He needed Dayquil/Nyquil as he'd been getting sick before the storm and days of 16 hour shifts moving snow hadn't helped. He said they were completely out of eggs. There's a spirits store right by my closest grocery store. One stop shopping. I never run out of alcohol, groceries are another story. I did some regular grocery shopping before last wk's snowstorm. I drove to store, did my shopping and made it home with groceries put away in a hour. Some nights it takes me 35 minutes just to drive home.

My house is always well stocked and nothing was needed. For the first time ever my company closed 2 hr early today and we will not open tomorrow. Bad news is we were told we will not be paid for the day off tomorrow and there is no option of working.

Ain't nothing wrong with pasta & tuna. However ketchup+hot water = tomato soup is just wrong, lol. So very true

I'm hoping for a snow day from the museum tomorrow! I bought ingredients to make chicken, leek and lima soup - I have no intention of leaving the house tomorrow.
I hope everyone stays safe!

We filled up both our gas tanks this weekend, but that's mostly so we wouldn't end up having to stand outside and fill them up in the snow/extreme cold. Other than that, nothing much. I did the normal grocery shopping on Sunday, and saw lots of people stocking up - made me laugh. We have plenty if we were stranded for several days between the pantry and freezer - and that was before I went shopping, but I was out of bread and eggs, so just picked up those couple of items. We live in the KC area, so we already have shovels and a crappy snow blower - what more do you need to clear snow? That and DH to do the shoveling.

Bad news is we were told we will not be paid for the day off tomorrow and there is no option of working. That sucks! If our company closes we still get paid for the day. If we're open and I can't get into work safely then I use personal emergency time. My boss gave me permission to work from home tomorrow, just in case. I better make it to the office, but if I need to come in late at least I can do some work at home. I had off last Thursday because of the snow, so I really don't want to lose another day of work.

"Blizzard has hit - close to 50 mph wind and up to 20" of new snowfall possible. Absolute white-out conditions currently."
Same here. I made sure I had milk. Have plenty of food. Also filled my gas tank. I will be fine as long as the power stays on. The world around me is closed.

Same here, stocked up on the essentials and ready to go with the snowblower once this all lets up. But it sounds like by that time I may freeze to death cleaning up this mess. Here in SE WI the wind is really howling and at the blizzard stage. My driveway looks to have a couple of decent drifts but I can't even see where my sidewalk is supposed to be anymore.
I had already put in for a VAC day for Wed., as our business will not close since the owner lives mere blocks away. Not in the mood to try bucking 4 ft. snowdrifts at 6 am!

Snow seems to have stopped and winds have died down to about 25 mph. Went out at midnight - pushed a large drift out with the storm door in order to get out of the house - and shoveled a walking path to the road. I'll clear the path back out in the morning and otherwise ignore cleaning up the mess until after work tomorrow. (i.e. I'll hope my neighbor has had time to plow by then, I keep him stocked in beer to stay toward the top of his list!). It's actually quite beautiful outside right now, untouched white everywhere. Pretty brisk, so I'm wide awake now and work starts at 7 am. ugh.

Um, actually we've pretty much gotten all the snow they've predicted for the last few storms. And it wouldn't be a big deal if the state would deal with it properly for once.

We've been pretty on target too in Boston. This is the first time I'm noticing that they were totally off. It stopped snowing here and it's kind of sleeting... :/ depressing! I just said to my coworker one of the most depressing feelings I can remember was as a kid, expecting a snow day because of 2' of snow was predicted, and waking up to sleet or rain or nothing at all.

I got caught in the blizzard of a 60 car pile up trying to get to work and spent 24 hours in a car. I shared 1/2 of my packed lunch and water with another.
I learned to pack more food and to dress right. I had gym shoes on and no boots, a fleece jacket that was not water proof and no shovel.
I drank little water....the pee issue was another learning point.
I am so glad to be home safely with all of you.

Glad you made it home. I hate driving or trying to in that stuff. Just plain scary.

We were lucky and did not get the snowfall amounts or winds that were predicted. I'm not complaining and my sympathies to those who were not as fortunate.

I read your comment earlier in this thread and thought to myself, ut oh, she will learn. Chicago was as bad as its ever seen earlier today. That was a vicious storm. Glad you are ok.
