I didn't click the link, but you can't kill kids for being mouthy. The species would have died out when I was a kid. I heard this on the radio. I have stood there shaking and telling my kids to just walk away. I'm so mad, I can't discuss this now. But, just as I point out to them that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem or that if you off yourself, you never get another chance at a better day. I can't imagine a permanent solution to mouthy teenagers, other than time.

This story makes me sick...as does any story of this nature. I LIVE with a mouthy teenager and even though I would like to sell him in Ebay, send him to military school, and have had dreams of running away to some place warm and exotic until he is 18 and moves out....I have never once even thought about doing something so horrible.
What brings a person to snap to do something so horrible? I can't even imagine what the father is going through right now.

No. As Malarky said - we'd have been extinct years ago. She killed her kids because she is bat shit crazy. I do have one question. What about California? Why do all the crazy people come to Florida now? California is still nice, isn't it?

So you're saying that it's worse than the terrible twos?!?! I better get on some happy pills starting NOW! But really? She bought a gun 5 days previously and shot them both twice in the head. To me that doesn't seem like a "crime of passion". Granted she had to have snapped, but it sounds like other factors were in play. WTF is wrong with some people??

<<California is still nice, isn't it?>>
Nope. There are parts of most large inner-city neighborhoods that even cops won't enter (unless in force) because of the gangs. There are parts of national forests you don't dare hike in because of Viet Nam type booby traps protecting illegal pot farms. Does the name Scott Peterson ring a bell? And just a few days ago near me, a four year old boy was torn from the arms of his grandmother by his mother's ex-boyfriend. The police found the getaway car submerged in a large irrigation canal. They haven't found the bodies yet but assume both are dead.

Since the woman had assaulted both the teens in recent weeks and had just purchased the weapon 5 days prior to the shootings, hopefully the charges in this case will be premeditated murder and she won't get off on some insanity plea.

I can't image what the father is going through. Can you imagine being deployed during a war and finding out your kids are dead by your wife and their mother? She of course isn't the only one. The one who drowned her kids, Susan Smith who left them in a car that she let roll into the lake and then pleaded for the person who took them to bring them home.
As said, crazy as bat shit.

<<All the crazy people used to live in Calif.>>
Bear in mind that until very recently less than 1/3 of Californians were born there.

If it makes you feel any better, I read an article that talked about the people who had actually gotten the insanity plea - it doesn't really sound like a great deal. I mean - it isn't like they "get off" and they are declared insane and then are let out onto the street and can go about their crazy life. On average, the time they are in the institution is longer than the sentence they would have gotten (I know, vs. the death penalty it is hard to compare.) In murder situations they are often never released. The facility is pretty poor - and in many cases worse than the prison they would be sent to. They don't get top notch doctors dedicated to healing. They are often medicated beyond what is normal and customary. Their review procedure to see if they are ready to get out isn't as defined or honored as the parole system, and the support after wards is lacking, so life is pretty terrible for them.
You are better off just killing yourself before trial. I don't know why we go through such lengths to keep murderers from killing themselves, so we can put them on trial and give them the death penalty. Really, I think their holding cell should have a noose and a bottle of tequila.

Just to be clear - I'm not saying killing themselves is mandatory - I just don't think we should stop them.

I believe that women are born with "something" within them that makes them loving protective mothers. A normal mom would defend her child even against a grizzly bear. Therefore any mom that would kill her own children (by my definition) is crazy. Stupid theory but I still believe it's true.

Her lawyer is going to say the meds she was taking contributed to her mental illness. I think most of us who have raised teenagers go through periods of "death before dishonor!" But to REALLY do it, no way.

I wonder if parents of teenagers are threatening their children today and using her as an example?

It sounds like the mother had planned on killing herself after she killed her children. I wish all these murder / suicide folks would change the order of death - kill themselves first! It'd save everybody a lot of grief.
Also, the article mentioned that the mother appeared drugged when the cops arrived. I wonder what kind of substance abuse issues she had? Hopefully a blood sample was taken when she was arrested.

And, I would think she would request that. As in the case of Andrea Yates, I would beg and plead for mercy that they would give me the death penalty. Living would be a cruel and unusual and unbearable. And I would say life in prison so you can live out your days regretting what you did.

.
That incident happened quite a while before the actual murders. It was a month and a half previously when one of the children reported one of her assaults, and a couple days after that when the officer had stopped her while she was driving and she showed signs of being on drugs (dilated pupils and slurred speech).

Part of the article:
On Nov. 6, though, trouble arose.
Calyx called police, telling officers her mother hit her as she drove home in the family car, according to a Department of Children and Families report. The teen also told officers that her mom had hit her about a month and a half before.
Two days later, Schenecker was in a car crash not far from her Tampa home. Officers on the scene wrote that Schenecker "showed signs of drug impairment," including dilated pupils with no reaction to light and "mush-mouthed speech."
I don't know how long she had been planning this but probably more than just the 5 days prior when she bought the gun. The mom obviously didn't have the skills to cope and either self-medicated or maybe even attempted suicide by car in November. IMHO she obviously blames her children for her life which she doesn't like and had enough anger at her daughter that the second bullet for her was in the front of the face.
I wonder if we the public will really find out much before or after her trial.

This is such a tragic event in a way it's almost sacrilegious to even talk about it, what can one say.
For those with faith the children are in a better place, for those with out , they are at rest.
The woman? What happens will happen, authority's will handle it.
My heart goes out to the father.
What he had to go through when being told the news. In a way. what I thought on that, in "Private Ryan"..when the young paratrooper when told about his younger brothers that turned out that they had the wrong "Ryan "..but in this case there was no mistake.
His trip back home , to what.
He had left his children in the care of the one who would be most concerned with keeping them, the children , safe. The Mother.
How he is going to cope with all this, I haven't a clue. Tragedies are a part of life but a tragedy such as this , it's beyond words.
The only rainbow in this event is if he has the "faith " that he will be reunited with the children and be able to look out for them for all eternity.
Beyond that, I really have nothing else to say.

I can't even begin to understand what kind of monster can do what that "mother" (and I mean mother fucker, not mommy) did to those innocent children. If you can't handle your children, FFS give them over to someone that can. I can't imagine how those children felt the last few seconds of their lives, knowing that the woman who was supposed to love, nurture and care for them was about to end their lives.
