Well, let's see. In the next couple of years, I am probably going to become a single parent intentionally, without having sex with anyone. Will I be a whore or a harlot?
I will be doing this with the complete support and encouragement of my family (I was considering adoption; my family convinced me that it would be a waste to not have a child of my own). Does that make all of them whores too?

No andi, you are still an unwed mother. You can't be "unwed" if you're married. Do you even know what unwed means?

Lone, somewhere along the line, we outlawed harems. Just look at how we persecute those who believe in plural marriage.

You're the only whore, but it might make them your pimps for encouraging your whorish activities.

Well really you get to move to that middle ground where every time someone says something positive about you someone is around to explain how you were a whore before but now you've straightened out your life.

You don't have to be married to the women to have a harem. Plural marriage is not the same thing as harem. Can we please make sure we know what words mean before trying to use them?

So if you're a widow or divorced, are you still considered married? Or are you unwed? I thought it was "till death do you part"? Now I gotta stay married to a dead guy? ? I ain't hitting that!

Unwed does not equal not committed, that's a complete fallacy. Younger generations are just coming to understand that marriage is a societal construct that doesn't mean anything, beyond the perks you incur in terms of policies and statutes. Marriage doesn't mean you're committed either, so why bother getting married?

Lone, somewhere along the line, we outlawed harems. Just look at how we persecute those who believe in plural marriage. If you think about this, aren't we evolving into having relationships where we don't mate for life? A male bee doesn't pollinate just one flower. The problem is that the honey is running out to feed all the baby bees. The pendulum swings both ways and has gone about as far left as it can. Time to grow up and think about the kids when the pendulum swings back.

I will be doing this with the complete support and encouragement of my family (I was considering adoption; my family convinced me that it would be a waste to not have a child of my own). Does that make all of them whores too? This is by choice. You're deciding to have a child without a husband, BF, SO, partner, or whatever you like. That sounds different than someone who "became pregnant" and then "had chosen" to raise a child on her own. But, would you still be referred to as a "single Mom"? On these boards, often the phrase single Mom is meant to evoke description of a more challenging life situation(whether fiscal or emotional) compared to a woman who is married, "in a committed relationship", has a "partner", or just a live in BF. Why does the term "single Mom" still have negative connotation? If very many of the women who are established, stable, and self-sufficient have children without being in any of the above relationships and do so willingly, are sometimes still viewed with pity in some way? Not everyone shares the same value system. Not everyone here can perfectly articulate why they "feel" that having a child while married is preferable to having child without being married. To each his own.

When people say unwed mom with negative connotations it normally is someone referring to a teen mom but lumping everyone together regardless of individual circumstances.

She's an exception. Most are using the system. My cousin also had a baby out of wedlock because she got into her early thirties and wanted a child. She had a job and didn't use any taxpayer money, either. Few years later she met and married someone and had another child by him. It can work out of course. My was a single mom, she makes over 100K right now. When I was born, she made a very nice living.
