Eliminating ever possible intoxicant is a pipe dream. On Johnson's website: To create a drug-free society, we'd have to build a police apparatus so intrusive that all Americans would have to be under surveillance 24 hours a day... presumably for their own good. Would citizens of the "land of the free" ever stand for that? aka...Make no bones about it. Drug abuse can be eliminated. The question is, how far are some willing to go to force their 'morals' on others to get that ideal drug-free society? Protestant moral values on others brought us prohibition and we all know how well that worked out. Bootlegging was rampant and organized crime controlled the sale and distribution of alcohol produced both north and south of the border. Sounds like today's "war on drugs", which is not fairing much better. Just like alcohol, whether 'drugs' are legal or illegal, some people will abuse it. That will never change.

Pelosi is eccentric, obnoxious and pushy. She blathers on and nothing makes sense. Quote: "You have to pass Obama Care before you know what's in it". Another one, "I'll make sure Gingrich doesn't become the nominee as I know some bad things about him". She is the farthest from being professional and saying she is a nut is putting it mildly. She is a loose cannon as Biden is. i don't think anyone serving in congress is a nut. and truthfully, i kinda get tired of the label, because it instantly declares them unworthy of consideration, which is proximately false. Seriously? You don't think Charlie Rangle, Barney Frank, Henry Waxman, Denis Cucinich, Chuck Schumer, Shelia Jackson-Lee, Bruce Braley, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, or Maxine Waters are nuts? I'd say "nut" is the mild or polite way of putting it.

Agreed with billis... lets get started... Although, truth be told , you can't make a person stay alive if they don't want to... or sober if they don't want to be... alcohol can kill (and actually maryj doesn't...) ... (and frankly i have enough pennyroyal and parsley on the property to trigger an abortion if you wanted one... )... It isn't the job of the mass to protect the indivdiual from himself at all costs.... I am putting the responsibility on a persons doctor who will dispense a large quantity of pills at one time with refills. Some people pop pills like candy, and are not aware of the conseqences as respiratory failure. The more you take, the more you need and I speak from personal experience. After a spinal fusiion I was instructed to take 2 Vicoden every 4 hours. Then the doctor gave me sleeping pills and xanax. Yep, I couldn't kick the Vicoden after a year or so as it is so addicting for me. Thank God I had the sense to go into detox. I know how it altered my way of thinking, my motor skills and just following doctors orders. I wouldn't touch a narcotic ever again.

I am putting the responsibility on a persons doctor who will dispense a large quantity of pills at one time with refills. Some people pop pills like candy, and are not aware of the conseqences as respiratory failure. My own mother had a legit reasons (back problems similar to you) for pain med prescription. We found her abusing prescription drugs but only because DW happened to stumble upon the same pain meds filled at two different pharmacies prescribed by two different doctors. Her doctors ultimately solved this via a morphine pump that distributes measured doses only, directly to the effected areas of her back. Glad you were able to beat it. The position of Johnson has nothing to do with prescription pain med abuse. He's not talking about over the counter narcotics. Take a moment to learn about him and I'm sure you'll find yourself agreeing with him much more than disagreeing.

lol... drugs need to be illegal because doctors cannot be trusted to give the right dosage? ... lol... ok. Stop twisting words, I'm talking about recreational drugs and btw the doctors DO overprescribe. As I said a little pain, or in my case a lot that I live with, I could easily get 100 narcotics now, but refuse.

Ok. If i misunderstood, what is the rationale of making recreational drugs illegal?
And if people can easily get doctors to prescribe them drugs if they really want them, then how does making them illegal help?

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a career politician who was never called a liar. Thief, I presume you are referencing some fiscal policy you didn't agree with. I'm not aware of any theft allegations against Frank. But he's not my Congressman, so I could just be uninformed. But as far as the gay prostitution ring... I don't think he has ever been accused of running it. Just of being dumb enough to date a prostitute who ran a prositution ring in his basement. And sex scandals seem like a bipartisan issue - at least a bipartisan practice. Try again.

All the drugs I took led to a gallbladder removal, but I would rather suffer with the pain than become dependent on drugs. I was in bad shape and was driving to psysio one day on the Vicoden and drove through a red light. I was lucky no other cars were around. Hope your mom is doing better...

No thanks sarah, you are blinded by the corruption of this Administration as a whole. I wish you all the best with your rationale.

I would rather not be lead than be lead into a big pile of poop. Why? I would think that the lead would sink to the bottom and might actually have the quickest escape route from the poop. Although I suppose that depends on the density of the poop in question. Yeah yeah, I just realized I spelled that all wrong. P.S. really meant led.

My supposed blindness nothwithstanding...
I believe there is a difference between "that politician is a liberal, and I disagree with them because my views are more conservative" and "that person is a radical liberal extremist" and "I don't like how that person is portrayed in the media, even though I don't know anything about their political positions."
I'm not suggesting there aren't liberal extremists - but there aren't many in Congress. (Heck, the Green Party has never even won a national seat)
Words have meanings.

And if people can easily get doctors to prescribe them drugs if they really want them, then how does making them illegal help? Alcohol and cigarettes are recreational drugs and they kill more people than illegal drugs. I think making illegal drugs legal might help with the gene pool.

<<<I don't think they are the extremists you make them out to be.<<< Barney Frank, a liar and a theif and running a prostitiution ring in his basement.... That's not normal in my world. So lying isn't normal in your world? Barney Frank and the Male Prostitute – 1989 The era of sour feelings on Capitol Hill continued after House Speaker James. C. Wright's resignation and the smear campaign against his successor, Thomas S. Foley. In a third blockbuster scandal, Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Barney Frank admitted a lengthy relationship with a male hooker who ran a bisexual prostitution service out of Frank's apartment.
The story was broken by the conservative Washington Times newspaper, which trumpeted every juicy morsel with front-page hype. Though Frank was apparently ignorant of some of the prostitute's activities, his indiscretion was so great that his standing in Congress was greatly damaged and a House reprimand passed overwhelmingly in July 1990. His home district in Massachusetts was more forgiving, reelecting him easily the following November. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/frenzy/frank.htm

Why? Why is there a need in the media to trash based on looks and not position? I've usually found when you're 'got nothing', make something up. Manufactured anger is a wonderful thing.
