On behalf of Suzi Q and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! ;D
If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can.
Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.).
We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!!
NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!!
POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT".
We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts.
Now let's have some fun!! [image]

I'm not the inimitable dancinmamma nor the incomparable suziq, but I can copy and paste with the best. Somewhere there is a post about a handbook for newbies/oldbies who want refreshers, but I don't know where.
I do want to brag - on Thanksgiving morning I bought a rib roast for DH and DS and I for that day's dinner, and was given a free turkey (enjoyed Sunday with larger gathering) with coupon, and a free 12-pound ham for reaching some $ level of purchases since October. It was just ... nice. Really nice.

It's been skyrocketing, hasn't it? Yesterday I went to Jewel/Albertsons with a $20.00 cat from purchasing gift cards. Gosh, those cats have a short expiration date. I coupled b1g1 on Purdue chicken w/a coupons dot com $2.00 off two and got two Purdue Perfect Portions 1.5# boneless chicken for $6.99. So, 3# of Chicken that I don't have to re-package for $6.99 was good. Well, at least in my area. I also purchased pork chops, hamburger, frozen veggies (free coupon) O.J. and frozen Gino's East pizza for $14.63 OOP. At Jewel, that's quite a feat. I really think they charge a $20.00 entry fee at the door.

A big THANK YOU to Beachbum for sending me the Clean & Clear Coupons and the Sonicare coupons. That rebate is awesome, too! It will make my OOP $9.99
If anyone else has the $2/1 Clean & Clear coupons I would really appreciate them. I've got a raincheck for 6 more.

I picked up some Keebler recipe booklets at Foodmaxx. They have the following coupons if anyone wants them. The only one that looked really good was $1/1 Bounty Napkins and I won't use them. I have three of each.
The rest are all $1/2 and they expire 1/31/12. Club crackers, Town House crackers, Keebler Toasteds crackers, Grahams crackers, Krispy, Flatbread Crisps, Wheatables, Carr's water crackers, Rice Crispies Treats, Keebler cookies, and Wholly Guacamole products.

I don't think so. There are so many gals on this board that put together such great deals (including you with your free turkey and ham ); but thank you for your kindness.

NAG - has anyone done Inbox Dollars? I see they are giving free $5 just for signing up. I know AJ/greengirl has participated in this before. www.moneysavingmadness.com/2011/12/free-5-bonus-for-joining-inbox-dollars/I figured out how to pay for all my xmas gifts, without having to use any cash. I'm using GCs for all the survey sites, Bday GCs, rebate checks etc. It feels good to do xmas shopping, without having to worry about breaking the bank (because I normally go overboard)

At Acme when I get those $10 or $20 cats I take them to the courtesy desk and ask for the same amount in an Acme gift card. So for the $20 cat I would ask for a $20 GC and then hand them the cat to pay for it. One of the cashiers suggested it to me when I did some deal that generated some high dollar cats and they always seem to not find it unusual at all. HTH ;D

Leanna: Thanks again for the Rite Aid scenarios. I gathered coupons last night and had all except for 1 Theraflu Q. I paid $6.14, $12.00 in UPs that I started with and the UPs from the first 2 transactions but ended up with $19.00 in UPs. I also added 2 dozen eggs to all that I bought.
Dollar General: I spent $2.57 and saved $61.54. I got several Ben Gay, men's work socks, 3 large cans of green beans and a can of mushrooms. I saved the rest of my good coupons for later. Cashier said they've been having this deal every other week.
Walmart: I went in only for a Stain Stick but saw they had Schick razors 12 pk. for $1.97. I used the $3.00 MQ and ended up paying $1.76 OOP. There was probably a coupon for the Stainstick but I was in a big hurry.

Check your mailboxes (snail mail(. I just received a FREE JF Precision foam Q (up to $13.99) from RA. So here's my scenario for next week:
JF Precision Foam $11.99 2 x Nature Made Fish Oil 8.49 1 Sucrets 2.99 10 x $2.49 Revlon beauty tools 18.68 ($2.49 items) 2 x $1.45 Revlon Beauty tools 2.18 4 x M&M/Mars Candy 8.00 Less JF Q (11.99) Less Nature Made Qs (2.00) Less Nature made VV (3.00) Less Sucrets Q (1.00) Less 12 REvlon Qs (12.00) less 2 x $1/2 Mars Q (2.00) OOP $20.34, get $20 UPs $10 SOS, $2 Sucrets, $6 Revlon, $2 M&M/Mars. So 34c for everything. I'll do as many Revlon as I can, to lower my OOP. Let's just hope I can find the lower priced items in stock.

I really think they charge a $20.00 entry fee at the door. Good deal on your chicken purchase! But that entry fee idea - I hope this doesn't inspire any store managers to add new revenue streams.

Just a note for any Kohl's shoppers planning to combine a cardholder discount with Kohl's Cash - the % off is only after all the Kohl's Cash has been used. I had $75 in purchases, $60 in Kohl's Cash and a 20% off coupon - thought my total would be just a few cents in tax, but turned out to be $12-something since the 20% off was only off $15, not $75. A little annoying, but I guess it makes sense. And I did get MIL's Xmas gift (she requested Levi's), games for my 7- and 8-yo half-siblings, a work dress, and a couple of Godiva bars for that $12, so I can't complain too much Went to Kroger, they weren't having any blockbuster sales this week but I didn't need much. Got a $75 Bass Pro gift card for FIL (4x fuel points!), 3 boxes of Barilla for $0.50 apiece (on sale for $1 + $1/3 coupon), 2 bags of Luden's for $0.50 apiece (sale for $1 + $1/2 coupon), and assorted other groceries for $109. According to my receipt I only saved 14%, but if you take the GC out of the equation it was closer to 35%. And I got lucky on the Luden's because I was so desperate for something to stop my coughing I probably would've bought them even if they weren't on sale This cold is the worst! Reverse hound - Stove TopI have a $1/2 Stove Top coupon from one of the boxes I bought just before TD... exp. 1/30/13. I already have Stove-Top coming out of my ears, so one of you ladies is welcome to it. First PM wins

RANT regarding CVS and shelf cleaners: I have only 2 CVS in my town, so I thought I better check and see if tomorrow's sales were active. The first CVS started their sales prices at 5 (this is new) and the shelves were BARE. No kettle corn, no pledge, no spin brushes, and only 2 boxes of candy canes left. The second store won't start their sale until midnight, and they do have stock, but now I feel the need to back tonight to ensure I get the deals I want. It is so frustrating that I have to have to work so hard to get these deals. ALSO, at WAGs tonight, while I was buying Quaker Life cereal for $1/box, I watched a girl check out 5 bags-worth of groceries for $119 on her foodstamps card. This included a $4.49 box of cheerios, one box of coca cola, Welch's jelly at 3.27, and peanut butter (the large jar) for $4 and some change......I'm just saying, really??

Crazy CVS run:
I went back to CVS and turned my $18.49 in EBs into a $10 GC and the following items:
8 Kettlecorn 5 Jif (used 2 rainchecks 1 from the week with 2/$5 with $3 EB and 1 raincheck for 3/$5) 4 Pledge 2 kids spinbrush 1 pkg candy canes 1 small bag peppermint
and I now have no EBs on that card to worry about, I can move on to hopefully closing out my other card, too....

I was able to do the Popcorn Indiana deal without clearing the shelf, although I have to admit that no one else will be able to get the GC by buying only that product. After a $5/$25, a CRT for $1/1 Popcorn Indiana, and (12) $1/1 IPs, I used $11.98 in EBs for (12) bags of popcorn (kettle and white cheddar) and got a $10 GC in return. ;D I now have (3) GCs. I'd love to get another one before they stop offering this kind of deal. Too bad they don't offer rain checks for the GC deals. Now that would be AWESOME!!

I'm glad you got some of the Popcorn Indiana. Isn't it ironic how we "worry about" having EBs that need to be spent? I love being able to burn them on GCs!! Are you getting CVS GCs or opting for something else?

Excellent job on your purchases and the start up of a new month of Grocery Challenge. Karma to you!! I've been trying to find decent meat pricing for some time. It's been skyrocketing, hasn't it? I coupled b1g1 on Purdue chicken w/a coupons dot com $2.00 off two and got two Purdue Perfect Portions 1.5# boneless chicken for $6.99. So, 3# of Chicken that I don't have to re-package for $6.99 was good. Well, at least in my area. I also purchased pork chops, hamburger, frozen veggies (free coupon) O.J. and frozen Gino's East pizza for $14.63 OOP. At Jewel, that's quite a feat. HTH ;D Thanks for the idea, but, they have a large sign at the service desk prohibiting using a cat to purchase gift cards. Directly IN town, they are the only grocery store, and they take full advantage. So, unless they have something no other store in the area has, or a heck of a good price on something, I don't bother shopping there. A small rant. (Because all of us I'm sure are going through this) This morning I was going through inserts from a couple of weeks ago and the last two issues of All You. Coupon expiration dates are really awful. I swear some are maybe three weeks out from the time you get them, BARELY enough time to plan for a good sale. The values aren't what they used to be either. Just makes me sad.

Crazy CVS run: I went back to CVS and turned my $18.49 in EBs into a $10 GC and the following items: 8 Kettlecorn 5 Jif (used 2 rainchecks 1 from the week with 2/$5 with $3 EB and 1 raincheck for 3/$5) 4 Pledge 2 kids spinbrush 1 pkg candy canes 1 small bag peppermint and I now have no EBs on that card to worry about, I can move on to hopefully closing out my other card, too.... Misspt: Good job at CVS. I checked mine out the other day and I know they don't have enough of the items to even start doing this deal. I'm going to wait and see what their truck brings in next week. They have been low on the Jif and Smuckers and I also have a raincheck for the Jif.

Misspt - I'm very worried there will be no kettlecorn when I get off work at 5pm. Did you use multiple of the Facebook IP's? I have 7 of them and I'm worried someone it going to roll their eyes at me or refuse them. Thank goodness Garnier is included this week. I've been wanted to try the spot correcting cream (because growing old isn't pretty) and that purchase was how I was going to get half of the $30.
