RA question (again, sorry): There is a $10 UP associated with buying $50 worth of Home Improvement gift cards at RA starting tomorrow, can you use an existing $10 UP toward this purchase of this GC? I am thinking no, but I just wanted to ask to be sure..... This seem to be a Discover GC. Does anyone know if there's any fees associated with these cards? Ruby - thanks, I haven't checked out the new SCRs yet. That will help make my deal even better. I want to use my UPs I receive for a small xmas tree for my porch.

Misspt - I'm very worried there will be no kettlecorn when I get off work at 5pm. Did you use multiple of the Facebook IP's? I have 7 of them and I'm worried someone it going to roll their eyes at me or refuse them. Thank goodness Garnier is included this week. I've been wanted to try the spot correcting cream (because growing old isn't pretty) and that purchase was how I was going to get half of the $30. I did use multiple of the FB coupon. I would be surprised if you store has the kettlecorn left, b/c the shelf space for them is very small. The 2nd store that I shopped, only had 10 on the shelf, and that was with one falling off,almost...The peanut butter was my saving grace with 2 different rainchecks...

There is a $2/1 Garnier q in today's insert, and I think an IP on redplum.com. I may do this deal too. I love the Garnier products, plus I just earned a $10 EB from the advisory survey this morning. Plus, don't forget the Garnier will count toward the beauty club EB too!

From having worked at a local nonprofit, I know that a lot of these women do not have reliable transportation to get to a proper grocery store. Don't know if that was the situation for the gal you saw or not. Technically, I guess she was getting the stuff for free so she probably didn't care. I used to teach the ladies at our nonprofit how to max their food budget. Some took to it and others could have cared less. Just like everything else in life, I guess. Yesterday at Target there was a young hispanic couple trying to match up their WIC q's with cereal. I played coupon fairy and gave them a few to use. The young gal was thankful so I wrote down the website for MFA. I hope she uses it--but not to become a shelf clearer!

MissPT: How did you get Quaker Oats cereal for $1 at WAGS. I love their Oatmeal Squares cereal but it is rarely on sale, ant the q's are few and far between. Did I miss one out there?

Yes, it's a redplum coupon that hip2save posted 2 days ago. It might still be available at their website. The RR ended last night at WAGS, so there was very little "lead" time on the deal between when the coupon became available and the WAGs deal ended....

She had a car and 2 grocery stores (Walmart and Winn Dixie) less than a mile away, but I did notice she left her kids in the car, so maybe that was her motivation- a quick trip.

I was so worried that I wouldn't get my kettlecorn today, so I sent my SO. I hate doing that but he's a trooper. I gave him a list, 7 kettlecorn $1/1 coupons, a $2/1 Garnier coupon, and a $5 beauty club EB. He called to report that he got it all! He's great. He even remembered to get the $10 CVS GC. That GC and 2 others I've earned are going to a gift exchange.

They are bulky and the shelf space only allows for about 16 to be put out at one time. Since they are part of the $30 GC deal, I would think they would have ordered several.

I find it kind of odd because it's not like the candy canes are a really expensive item. Why not just give them to everyone? If I remember correctly, the last time this happened to me it was also an inexpensive item. I wonder who decides what regions get these "deals"?

I use Food Stamps because of my disablility. People are hateful when you are standing in line to pay in a grocery store. They believe that they have the right to evaluate your purchases. They assume because you are using FS that you are a drug-addicted baby factory, who has 6 kids by 6 different fathers who don't pay child support because they are all in prison or dead, and you're probably knocked up with number 7 by number 7. They believe that you sit on your couch all day with your fuzzy slippers on, drinking booze, hair in curlers, smoking a cigarette, yelling at the baby to shut up while you're popping bon-bons, chatting on the phone to your girl and watching soaps or Maury or something. Oh did I mention that they assume that you are living in a roach infested, filthy subsidized apartment and you don't have the education or couth to get so much as a job flipping burgers and probably couldn't pass the drug test anyway.
I don't fall into their assumptions. I have an illness. I have a partial college education, am starting my own business and working on a degree in the Medical field. I do NOT sit on my butt all day- in fact I don't even have cable right now- my cable money is what I am paying my tuition with. I take care of my ill mother and babysit my nieces for free. I am writing a book on life with mental illness. I love kids, but have made it a point to not get pregnant because love doesn't put food in their mouths. My apartment may often have the lived in look- but it's always clean.
And as appealing as that $1 jar of peanut butter may look- it;s not a bargain if the kids won't eat it. As an adult on FS, I could pick and choose where I was willing to make cuts. With children, you have to be a little more selective- especially things like peanut butter and jelly that can be staples. Peanut butter does not need refrigeration. If you are homeless or living in a shelter- that $4 jar of Skippy versus that $1 store brand may be the only comfort your kid may get for awhile.
I don't buy soda, I will say that- but you don't know if she had sick kids or if maybe she bought those for the kids.

Somewhere there is a post about a handbook for newbies/oldbies who want refreshers, but I don't know where. I do want to brag - on Thanksgiving morning I bought a rib roast for DH and DS and I for that day's dinner, and was given a free turkey (enjoyed Sunday with larger gathering) with coupon, and a free 12-pound ham for reaching some $ level of purchases since October. It was just ... nice. Really nice. Gave you karma for starting the thread. Yuuuuuuum on the roast!

Leanna: Thanks again for the Rite Aid scenarios. I gathered coupons last night and had all except for 1 Theraflu Q. I paid $6.14, $12.00 in UPs that I started with and the UPs from the first 2 transactions but ended up with $19.00 in UPs. I also added 2 dozen eggs to all that I bought. Awesome! Glad that worked so well for you! I think last week (which was the first week of SOS) was a good week to go for it, if you had certain q's and if some of the things were things you wanted/needed anyway. The husband & I went away for the weekend...just got back. I know I didn't see anything that exciting before I left for this week's 12/4 SOS, but I'll be double checking over the next few days. I think 12/11 may be a good one.

I don't buy soda, I will say that- but you don't know if she had sick kids or if maybe she bought those for the kids. I am sorry you have been judged like this. I had two purposes in my post: 1) Several posters had commented in last month's thread how often they see people turn down coupons and store rewards cards that could save them significant money, with many folks commenting on seeing outrageous totals on transactions at the drug stores. I feel like 4-6 bags of groceries at Walgreens for $119 is a lot, regardless of how you pay. 2) This young woman is already, apparently, in financial constraints and could have saved herself significant money (of her foodstamps money, especially at the beginning of a new month) if she had simply paid regular prices at walmart. Even though they are not my favorite place to shop, they don't charge $4.++ for coke, $4.++ for cheerios, PB, and jelly (even name brand). We have had a sudden surge in homeless in our area with our local food banks hit hard by the exit of the Angel Food Ministries. Someone like this young woman could expend all of her FS $$ and then be another mouth at the local foodbank that could be depriving someone even more hopeless than her of resources..... Unfortunately, as humans we judge, a lot. I felt the need to share this small vent because it struck me wrong, if that makes me wrong, well, I guess all I can say is thank goodness that we are all very different, it's what makes this world so interesting.

Did anyone do the RA Lowe's gc? My RA said they had to take them off the shelf b/c they couldn't get the cards to "load", the person's debit or credit card would be charged, but then they couldn't get the Lowe's card to load the funds....

Wow, this is WEIRD. The less metro paper of the two we get in our area started delivering an early Saturday edition of the Sunday paper, so I've started looking in them for coupons. Saturday's edition had only the RP, but it was different than the RP in the Sunday edition.

This seem to be a Discover GC. Does anyone know if there's any fees associated with these cards? No, there is no fee with the Home Improvement card. They can be used at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes & a bunch of other stores, including some local stores. They have a whole list on their website. I think it's homeimprovementcard.com. I bought some the last time the UP was offered (over BF) and plan on buying more this week. My guess is that although the stores are limited, I have a feeling you can use it for anything within those stores. I.e. I have a feeling I could buy clothes at Sears with this card. I may test it out at some point. But I wouldn't recommend anyone buying it unless you plan to use it for home improvement type items...just in case...

I think that is only because their is A LOT of fraud and abuse in the system. It is really unfortunate for those that really need the assistance and don't abuse it. I disagree: "The national rate of fraud dropped from about 4 cents per dollar in 1993 to about 1 cent per dollar in 2008, the USDA estimated."So that means, for the most current year we have data for, 2008, 99% of food stamps were estimated to have been used correctly. See this article for where I pulled that quote from: abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/fact-checking-newt-gingrichs-food-stamps-claims/Even if you consider the fact that there are surely unreported and undiscovered cases of fraud, statistically speaking, it is unlikely to account for more than a few more percentage points. But, let me be generous and say there could be 10% fraud. 10% fraud means 90% compliance. That is not a lot of fraud. I really would like to write more about the original post and following posts, but I'm pressed for time, so I will keep it concise: -When we personally witness things (i.e. food stamp abuse) we can tend to think that our experience is the world at large. It is not. It is simply our experience in that moment in time. (Believe me - I have done this - so I understand.) -There's a tendency to notice bad things versus good things. I have seen this many times in my own life. I understand the frustration seeing someone do something that is wasteful. But it's not fair to castigate an entire population of people because of it. Maybe that was not the intent. It could have been just a vent - as we all do. We might vent about a relative or friend blowing money, but it comes across as that. But when we say "I saw a food stamp user do X" I think it comes across as a generalization about all food stamp users even if it wasn't intended as a generalization. Ok, I said I'd keep it short, but I wrote longer than I intended. Off to go spend time w/my husband.

Ok, actually I have to add one more thing.
My post is not meant against anyone - i.e. the original poster (can't even remember who it was) or DancinMama.
There always used to be a TON of anti-food-stamp users threads on Your Money when it was on MSN. I have more to say on this and how we are harder on the poor than we are on the rich but that will have to wait until another day.
Just wanted to make sure no one thought I was personally picking on them.

I found them on the display with all the other gift cards. It is a little misleading in the ad, cuz it shows the Home Depot logo. Just look for the card that is pictured in the ad.

On the day after Thanksgiving, I ventured out and bought black Friday items on all 4 cards at CVS. There were a few things that I had already bought the week before, so I just returned some of them and re-purchased them to generate the EB's. I have a nice stockpile of CVS EB's, so I have to check on Frugalsuz's blog to see "what's up," LOL. I hope all of you are doing well. I am still exercising and watching my weight, but I have had complications from my hysterectomy. My femoral nerves (inner thighs) are slightly irritated, so I have to add in twice a week re-hab to hopefully strengthen those areas. I now have a neurologist. Life is tough..... I am still grateful for the occasional deals that I can take advantage of. I just want them to be free or close to it. If it involves candy, I want it, but I can't eat it. Thanks again, Finnime.

Bummer. No free candy canes for me at CVS. In my ad, they are $.66 with card. I like candy canes t decorate the tree. Since they are not free....forget about them! Thanks for the information, Dancinmama.

Even here in metro Chicago where the candy canes ARE free after EB there were 'issues' w/the EB. They were NOT printing. This was also mentioned on AFC. I caught it before I left the store and had cashier manually print.
Word of Warning: I have been having problems w/my Rx at CVS. I got a new Rx in Sept for a med that I fill monthly. it seemed short (<30 pills) on the orginal fill. IT WAS short by 1 pill in Oct. it was ok in Nov. It was 3 pills short on my 12/2 refill. This is 5 pills in 4 months.
Had a MAJOR discussion w/the store mgr and head pharmacist on Sun. Actually had the pharmacist on duty tell me I HAD to count my pills b/4 I leave the store from now on (BS-NOT going to happen).
I have warned EVERYONE that if it happens again I will be: contacting CVS corp filing an insurance FRAUD complaint filing a Medicare FRAUD complaint
The CVS where I fill my Rx is in an area where pretty much everyon has some kind of insurance Rx coverage. This store pharmacy is always VERY busy. If they short every Rx 1 pill/month they are WAAAY increasing their profit level.

I wonder if someone has sticky fingers....
