On behalf of Dancinmama and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - Suzi Q!! If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!! POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT". We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts. Now let's have fun!! [image]

A big Thank you to Dancinmama for setting up our new monthly thread the last few months. She also has been fantastic for keeping our thread going, in spite of some tough economic times. How are the deals out there? If there is anything good, please post.
Thanks!

I got FIVE inserts today, no Pepsi though. Will have to go out in a bit and see if one of the other papers has that one. I did get to print some of the IP's, so, no biggie. I definitely need to go get a few papers today. A couple highlights were in the P&G, $5/1 Fusion and $8/2 Covergirl face products! WOW! Some of the other Q's were less than stellar, but these 2 should be good MM's, hopefully! There were lots of BOGO Q's, Suave, Dove, Tressemme, so maybe we will get some BOGO sales for free products

Hi suzi!! ;D WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME back to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! We've missed you. Thanks to everyone else who is posting too. I hope in spite of the lack of a ton of great deals, we can all keep the thread going from month to month. I am hoping that things WILL pick up. In this crappy economy, we need all the savings that we can get.

Do you "old timers" remember the days when the Gillette Fusion razors were HUGE MMs at WAGs? Now they're actually costing us money. Not much mind you, but it's still a far cry from a $4 MM. <<sigh>>

That's why I just assumed the $5 Q was on just the razor cuz I remembered getting that before, although it's been awhile...oh well...I'm still impressed with the $8/2 cover girl. I bet we can do some deals with that, especially combined with some of the bonus P&G deals that pop up, like spend $25, get xx, or a gift card, etc. There is one listed in the P&G inset today, plus sometimes the stores have their own.

The last time I bought them in any quantity for free was 2/'09 when I was able to get (19) of them (the Gillette Fusion Gamer was the "flavor" that they were promoting at the time) over a one-month period of time at WAGs (I think they had one of those monthly RR deals on them). Again, at the time I was second guessing whether or not I should get them, but thought that the Gillette Fusion gravy train couldn't last forever and decided to go for it. DS is slowly but surely depleting that stockpile.

Ugh, I am sooo frustrated with my paper. I don't really know if it's them, or if they are only allowed to get so many inserts for papers. I went to two different stores that carry a LOT of papers. I spent about 15-20 minutes at each place pawing through the papers and NOT one of the them had any other inserts besides the playschool. I'm so glad I get a paper delivered, looks like those are the only ones I'm going to get for this week.

OhioSitter, You're not illiterate - the site works kind of "interestingly." In order to use all the features, hit the "reply" button at the bottom of the last post in the thread. Then you will be able to use all the features. Like this. NAG, Svc was yesterday for my friend. That was hard. But necessary. Most of last week I spent in shock - yesterday I had to come to the reality that my friend is gone. Now, about groceries.... I'm back to couponing - frankly - I have to keep doing stuff to help deal with the pain of losing my friend. I too am loving that $8/2 Cover girl mq. Am off to RA shortly to see what I can figure out. I bought 4 papers because, these are some seriously awesome inserts. Here, in Portland, OR, we got SS, GM, Playskool, P&G and Moments to Save (Pepsi) and RP. 6 inserts - wow that is crazy cool. HOUND:I would love to have any of the $1/1 Celestial Seasonings Tea mq's in the SS that anyone would like to send I only drink water and 1 particular kind of Celestial Seasonings Tea (that I actually have to special order from store) so I just love when these Celestial Seasonings q's come out! I don't see a way to edit my address in the Google doc, so I'll need to send anyone that is kind enough to want to send q's my new address.

ohiositter: It sounds like you did pretty well. I NEVER get any GM unless I get inserts from the major metro paper which is rare. Only one of the liquor stores I go to carries it and not many of them at that since they are $3/pop.
I don't really care about the Playschool, but would love the others.

I get RP in the mail, I was able to rescue about 10 from the trash can and shared half with my co worker. My home delivery paper only had SS and the toy one Grrrrr! Now I need to buy 2 more papers. Been busy all day cleaning out cabinets and pantry. Helps to pull it all out and restock. I have more tomatoes than I thought I had. I keep them on hand for soups! I found I am low on pasta (3boxes but 6 spaghetti)**gasp** and PB (3)

REPEAT HOUND ALERT I am looking for the MC for Birds Eye Steamfresh Chef's Favorites variety from the 9/25 SS.
The deal is at my Shop Rite and they will be on sale for 0.99 cents. So with the store doubling it will be free! (I thought since it was posted on the Sept thread I would repost it just in case someon missed it.)
Leanna, "I would love to have any of the $1/1 Celestial Seasonings Tea mq's in the SS that anyone would like to send"
Do you know which dates and inserts they were in? If I have any you can have them.

I have also been underwhelmed by the deals at CVS. I have one ECB for $6.79 that is expiring next Mon and there is nothing worth going out for this week. I will propably end up buying something like a couple of cases of water or something just to use it up. I will use it so that is goob but it would be nice to actually see a deal that I want to do for a change. I did go back to Shoprite last night and got 6 more coffees and 5 Kraft handi snacks. That brought my total in cats up to $160 and my OOP to about $135. A pretty good week for me. We are a pretty cheesey family so using them should be no problem.

Oh, doh! I forgot to say TODAY's SS. Thanks BeachBum for asking.
Oy vey, gals, my transaction today at RA went totally haywire. I had (4) of the Cover Girl $8/2 coupons. The cashier decided to adjust them down! This has never happened to me before at my little RA (I've had it happen at a couple of other RA's but never this one.) I had thought I purchased approx $33 in Cover Girl cosmetics, so figured $32 off in q's would work.
So, as she started adjusting them down, I got nervous. Because, I had taken a bit of time to write out all the costs at the store and had planned to use exactly a certain amount in UPs. Ack - so I started grabbing out more UPs, thinking my total would be higher, of course.
Well, my total was lower than expected! So I was really befuddled then and grabbed a lotion to get me over the amount I needed to use the UPs I had planned to use.
My $10 P&G didn't print, so boy was I really confused. But then I looked at my receipt -and - aha - it all makes sense. Two of the items that I bought rang up lower than I thought they would. I bought two of the CG Fresh Complexion Concealors, which I thought were $8.19 regular price. But they rang up as $5.49 and $2.74.
I was really careful to try to match the tags to the items when I did my calculations. But - I dunno - either I looked at the wrong tag, or they have the wrong price tag by the item. I'll check tomorrow or the next day.
So, I ended up with $29.77 in P&G products - and now I'll have to buy another CG item to get over the $30 to get the UP.
Oy, oy, oy. If I had known that item was going to ring up that way, I would have bought more of it, and less of a couple cheaper items.
Ahhh....the craziness we deal with to get a deal, right? LOL
(And, in case anyone is thinking this, no, I'm not going to try to do a return & buy different items...too messy w/the coupons involved. I'm sure I can find a cheap CG item to get me over the $30.)

De-cluttering NewsPaper/Inserts: How do you ladies handle this? Do you go thru the entire paper, toss what you don't want and keep the rest (SS/PG/RP/GM etc AND the Parade) Chicago Ladies : Has there ever a coupon in the Tribune newspaper itself or is it safe to always toss that in the recycling bin? I am trying to come up with a de-clutter/organizing plan...cos...errr....too much paper over here.

Pighaw on decluttering my local newspaper is a rag and I hate that I have to buy it for inserts. I pull all Qs and toss the rest.
Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to have a hound alert thread? Just name, item, where it is. People can add their names and cores out when answered. Thoughts?

Rite Aid: I had a great day hounding their this morning. I got the Prevacid $22.99-$4.00 IPQ-$4.00 VV- $14.00 UPs. I'll submit for the $18.00 rebate. I received a $10.00 UP reward. I also bought 8 Cover Girl eye shadows BOGO 1/2 @ $5.59 and $2.79 and used 4 $8.00 Q's. Paid $2.33 OOP and got a $10.00 UP. I'm using that towards the $10.00 P&G rebate. When I got home, I registered for the Taylor Swift promo and entered my 8 codes from my Cover Girl receipt. I will be getting 4 free Taylor Swift journals in the mail, which will make nice little gifts for my nieces. I bought the Scope Outlast for $4.00-2.00 MQ-2.00 Up and got back $2.50 in UPs. Heads up: If anyone is planning on buying extra papers today, please check to make sure the inserts are in them before you take them home. My sister bought 9 papers from yesterday and there were no coupons in them. Luckily, she went right back and was able to get her money back.

Stockpiling Storage: My stockpile is SO disorganized its not even funny anymore. - I don't have a kitchen pantry
- I've got a basement(2 rooms) but no shelving system(everything is still in their bags in the room).
- I have a garage, but 2 cars takes up the space. Again, would need shelves
- Where's the best place to store food items? In the Basement(cool, dry place)?
- I don't want to spend on lot of money on shelving units.....unless I can buy them with ECBs/RRs .
I need help . What to you ladies recommend I do.

Kroger is having some pretty good deals this week. I got the following for <$60: Kroger savings were $22.63 and coupon savings were $6.60, so my total savings were about 32%. I think that's the most I've ever had! It's been about 4 months since I started trying to coupon and I feel like I've turned a corner - first I was saving 10-15%, then 20%, now 30%. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to the 50s-60s

Yes, I buy the papers, thoroughly combing through 1 to make sure there aren't any hidden q's (i.e. like you mentioned in the Parade) and then I pull all the inserts from all the papers I've purchased. I keep one to read and discard the rest. I buy different amounts depending on the q's that particular Sunday. So, this Sunday I bought 4 since we got a jackpot of q's. 9/25 I only bought 1 newspaper; 9/18 and 9/11 I bought 2. Buying like that does help cut down a little on the recycling. But, in general, our recycling bin is often fuller than our garbage between newspapers, cardboard from Coke 12 packs, plastic tubs, etc. Something that I've heard some people do is that they buy the paper, pull out the inserts and offer the rest of the paper to someone right there at the store if they want it. Sometimes older gentlemen have no interest in coupons, but are happy to get a free newspaper.

I think that is a GREAT idea BluesClues! Slickdeals has a thread just for coupon trading and it is definitely a lot easier to see what's needed. This way, people wouldn't have to repeat a hound. Like you said, they can just use the strikethrough format when the hound has been answered.

I need help . What to you ladies recommend I do. If your basement isn't at risk of flooding, you could take cardboard boxes (gotten from the store for free of course) and turn them into shelves. This is what I've done currently, because I can't use the kitchen since my husband is going to remodel it. I took a picture, but I can't make it small enough to the size that is allowed to post on here. If you want to see it, just PM me an e-mail address & I'll send it to you. ETA: I'm w/ya on not spending money on shelving units...kind of defeats the purpose of hounding. And I don't mean that I wouldn't spend ANY money on shelving...but wouldn't want to go crazy. I guess you can tell how cheap I am that I'm using cardboard boxes lol.

Pighaw on decluttering my local newspaper is a rag and I hate that I have to buy it for inserts. I pull all Qs and toss the rest. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to have a hound alert thread? Just name, item, where it is. People can add their names and cores out when answered. Thoughts? I kind of like having them here. It is nice not having two threads to have to look at which apeals to my slacker side. But I also like reading other people's hound alerts, because it gives me ideas on Hounds that I may not have thought of. There aren't a lot of stores by me. So I don't normally see a Rite Aid ad or even think to look on line. But sometimes when I see a Hound alert here I will see a deal that looks so good I will look up the ad and see about stopping by one when I am in that area. Just my 2 cents.
