I'm a slacker, too, so I would like to keep the hound alerts here. But of course, that's just this slackers vote......
Beachbum: Did you see the free $2 ecb for CVS on facebook? It's still available after you watch one of the vidoes. It sweetened the P&G deal for me today.....

Lazy bones. It was just a thought since alerts tend to get lost among scenarios and OT discussions. I usually read from work but can't check Qs until I get home and forget who wanted something and am too LAZY to go back and check.

Kroger is having some pretty good deals this week. I got the following for <$60: Kroger savings were $22.63 and coupon savings were $6.60, so my total savings were about 32%. I think that's the most I've ever had! It's been about 4 months since I started trying to coupon and I feel like I've turned a corner - first I was saving 10-15%, then 20%, now 30%. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to the 50s-60s Miwestern, Great job. I just have to say that the "lightbulb turns on" and you get addicted to analyzing your order BEFORE you pay. It looks like that is what you have done if you got all that for under $60.00. I like to also look for markdown meat that I can cook for the same night that I buy. This week I got a couple of cantelopes for 25 cents a pound, grapes for 88 cents a pound, and a 3 lb bag of gala apples for $1.99 for the whole bag. I think my days of 50% off are over... I will say that I "brake" for the "loss leaders" on the various ads if I am driving by. Case in point: Ken's dressing about a month ago: $1.00 a bottle, used the $1.00 off coupons. Now I have about 10 free bottles. I didn't buy a newspaper this week. I was way too busy. I hope I can find one tomorrow. The neighbors gave me some of their coupon fliers, though. YAY. Congratulations, Mid, I think you are "on your way."

Thanks Suzi! ;D I think my next step is going to be buying the Sunday paper... right now, we don't get any circulars, the only coupons I have are the ones Kroger sends me I think manufacturer's coupons might bump me up to the next level. Something I noticed today that I really haven't before is how marked-up the endcap prices are... last week they were having a sale on Carnation evaporated milk for $0.69/can if you bought 10 qualifying items. This week, it's on the endcap with a "special sale" price of $1.29. Same thing with the lunch-sized packs of Easy Mac. I guess I knew that endcaps weren't always the best deal, but I had no idea they were sometimes 2x the rock-bottom sales price.

Am hoping DB will let me pull inserts this week. He is in a better mood now that he has gotten rid of girlfriend. He took away my coupons after I expressed my opinion on her. Now he had to eat his words when he found out big sister was right.
[glow=red,2,300]I got the Pepsi insert and I found it to be fairly unimpressive.[/glow]
HOUND ALERT: Ensure Qs are out again.

I don't have a basement, but they sound like a great place for a stockpile. Shelves would be optimal. Maybe the Goodwill or garage sales or a store going out of business or Freecycle or Craigslist would be a way to get some cheap shelves. Yes, shelving is optimal...so I have to do some planning & budgeting. I also wanted to use the space as a gym/spare bedroom, so I need to figure how to do all that or what to give up.....it does look like stockpile is winning this battle .

Picghaw on decluttering my local newspaper is a rag and I hate that I have to buy it for inserts. I pull all Qs and toss the rest. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to have a hound alert thread? Just name, item, where it is. People can add their names and cores out when answered. Thoughts? Thanks bluecluessubtlety. I like this idea. I vote yes.

If your basement isn't at risk of flooding, you could take cardboard boxes (gotten from the store for free of course) and turn them into shelves. This is what I've done currently, because I can't use the kitchen since my husband is going to remodel it. I took a picture, but I can't make it small enough to the size that is allowed to post on here. If you want to see it, just PM me an e-mail address & I'll send it to you. Yes, cardboard boxes with do just fine for now. I want to at least be able to see what I have right now. I'll PM you. Thanks! ETA: I'm w/ya on not spending money on shelving units...kind of defeats the purpose of hounding. And I don't mean that I wouldn't spend ANY money on shelving...but wouldn't want to go crazy. I guess you can tell how cheap I am that I'm using cardboard boxes lol. leanna: Yes, we are seeing eye to eye here. I want to spend but minimal & not right now if at all possible. Already have too many other uncontrollable expenses with the house ....tree trimming, new fence etc.

I have a friend who used to work for as a rep for a food company. They visit grocery stores and pay them to set up special displays of their products, put decals on their doors or windows, or set up endcap displays. If it's on the endcap, it definitely doesn't mean it's on sale - it just means somebody wants to push it. You even need to be careful with the stores' sale ads. They often tout items as being on a big sale, when the price is only pennies lower than their normal way-too-high price. You really have to know your 'buy' prices.

Didn't get the pink P&G insert in yesterday's paper, only the RP, Pepsi and the Playskool. Got to work and WC(Wonderful Co-worker) had the P&G, RP, SS and the Pillsbury!
I have to use the $2 ECB I got for the don't trash thingy at CVS as it expires today. The only items I can see worth it are the Lindsay olives for $1/can. Hope they have them in stock.

I think I've just cut way back on buying anything that's not on sale. Looking over my last receipt, there was only 1 item I paid full price for (bananas). Before, most of the things I'd get were on sale, but I'd end up throwing a jar of Nutella or a 12-pack of beer in the cart without really thinking about it. I also think it took me a full 3-4 month cycle to figure out the rock-bottom prices on most items. I don't have an official "price book" but I have a pretty good memory for that sort of thing... at least for now. Maybe I should start writing things down

Good morning all!
I used my CVS $2 "don't trash EB's" to buy the Chronicle yesterday. It's $3 so $1 OOP for me to get the better q's! Good deal in my book.
Leanna, picghaw and beachbum: PM your addy and I'll send the q's. Have to doublecheck to see if I got the Steamfresh ones though.
Got to go. Have a lovely day!

I went running yesterday and locked myself out of house. Groan. So I had to then run to church where the BF was bc he has a spare key. By the time I got to Dollar Tree they were sold out. Cashier said bc of all inserts yesterday, women were walking in with 5-6 kids each (we have a 3 paper limit here). They were sold out in minutes. I ended up buying last two from church store when I went back for mass. Oh well, I'll make due with 3 this week (one from ex) unless work people send me anything.

(Posted earlier) Something that I've heard some people do is that they buy the paper, pull out the inserts and offer the rest of the paper to someone right there at the store if they want it. Sometimes older gentlemen have no interest in coupons, but are happy to get a free newspaper.
I do this all the time. Otherwise, I give one to my neighbor who doesn't get the paper.

Maybe I should start writing things down Okay, so just cutting out non-sale items and impulse buys is what has made the biggest difference up to this point. But now you know your rock bottom prices and are ready to stock up a little bit when something you use regularly goes on sale - buying in anticipation of need when things are the cheapest instead of buying when you actually need something. We don't eat A TON of junk food, but if/when I do buy it, I wait for an excellent deal. With the $1/2 Cheetos/Fritos coupon I was able to pick up a couple of bags for $.99 each as opposed to the regular price of $3.59/bag. I'll stash them away and bring a bag out while we're watching football or the World Series, etc. instead of waiting for the weekend when I decide I want to have some special football munchies and buying them at the regular price. Even with the coupon, that would be way more than I'd ever be willing to pay.
