Well they knew the news would be out soon - nip it in the bud and get the correct facts out front.

Sarah Palin's 17-year-old , unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, the campaign has announced. Hoping to quell internet rumors about about her youngest son, Palin released the news about her daughter Bristol earlier today. A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child's father. Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, and the baby is due in late December. "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents," Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement. www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/01/palin-my-daughter-is-preg_n_122947.htmlcorrect. now, what rumors were those, cereb? this is an important detail. The rumor was that Bristol had given birth to the child known as "Trig", not Sara.

Well they knew the news would be out soon - nip it in the bud and get the correct facts out front. what facts? the media had no idea she was pregnant, and, with only two months left in the campaign, keeping her out of the spotlight would have prevented it. easily. so the question is, why did she thrust her into the spotlight rather than keeping her out of it?

Do we really have to drag all this up again, folks? This has been done to death. Really, it has. Not only has it been done to death, but it was boring the first time around. I think the point at issue in this thread was the media's assistance in keeping the Obama children OUT of the news and allowing them to just be children.

Very weak, people. Very weak. Like Palin's daughter's baby would be kept under wraps. Sarah did not throw her daughter under the bus, although some people would find it more fitting to their perception of who Sarah is if she had.
Too bad these threads were merged. One was toxic, one was not. Oh, well. Maybe Marsha asked for it to be unlocked.

SP announced her daughter's pregnancy to quell a rumor about not her daughter but HERSELF, krickett. she didn't have to do that. but she did. therefore, she used her daughters unfortunate circumstances to further her political aspirations. you don't like it. truth is, neither do i. i think it is dispicable. but please don't blame the messenger.

mmhmm, while I find the whole thing boring and sordid as well, it is marshabar's contention that the Palin family was not afforded the same courtesy as the Obama children when it comes to media coverage. It is my contention as well as others that Palin got what she asked for and then some.

Oh, yeah-- the TOPIC.. which is that the Obamas are media darlings.. not sure if the people that use internet, radio, maybe FOX for their news can make a difference in 2012, but Team Obama sure is hard at work trying to undermine, censor, and restrict all of the above..... double edged sword, that high tech stuff Obama thinks he owns. Turns out there are 2 or 3 conservatives out here that can actually read, too. Not looking to be the slam dunk they were hoping for..

No they are not. They haven't had much media exposure at all. A media darling gets tons of positive exposure.

It is my contention as well as others that Palin got what she asked for and then some. since cereb didn't answer it: the rumor was important to the media because, if it were true (and honestly, i never believed it, and didn't feel it was the media's business to ask- and that Palin should have told them to stick it- that is what an honorable parent interested in her privacy would have done), it would mean that Palin was lying to cover up the out of wedlock birth of Trig. it was the LYING that the media was after: just like Weiners weiner. they could not care less about the rest. there is absolutely a media bias: for sensationalism. the more sensation, the more lurid, the more coverage.

"I don't have idols. Not do I succumb to glitz. Keep trying, though." Ah... I see. So it's perfectly fair of you to accuse others of Obama idoltry,(sp?) but when the shoe is on the other foot...

However, that doesn't excuse, in my eyes, children being used as fodder for sensationalism. Just because you can does't mean you do, as I see it.

Also gotta agree the Obamas are not "media darlings". They really don't get a lot of exposure and I think that's their choice. They tend to try to keep their private lives private, which should be respected.
