"Can you believe this woman would say this in the face of the abuse taken by the Palin family? It's just unbelievable. Oh well, the Palins are white, so they obviously deserve bad treatment."
Unbelievable alright. Unbelievable that someone could interpret this statement in this way. This just shows everyone on this forum where the OP's head is at. This was an incredibly ugly, ugly thing to say on any planet at any given time. This obvious kind of bigotry isn't attractive at all. it's quite disgusting and rather disturbing actually.
Of course, that would be just my opinion.

What rubbish. Picking on Chelsea Clinton because she wasn't attractive is just plain nasty since Chelsea cannot help what she looks like. She was, what, 14 or so when Clinton took office? Yeah, way to beat down a 14 year-old girl's self-esteem by having ugly jokes plastered around by unthinking people.
The Bush daughters, on the other hand, were ADULTS when they were out partying and getting drunk. Plus they had full control over what they did.
The Obama children are YOUNG ... anyone wishing to insult children not even out of elementary school just to score political points should check themselves in for an immediate psychiatric evaluation. It's not like these children are even old enough to do anything "media worthy" anyhow. What, is the American Thinker going to run an article declaring Malia is un-American because she didn't color within the lines?
And cereb is right about the ugliness of this statement. This is especially true in light of how liberals are constantly being accused of playing the race card. The hypocrisy is almost too much to bear.

Okay. Let's cut it out with the personal insults on BOTH sides. Marsha, while you did report the thread as you said you would, you're as guilty of personal insults here as anyone else. I think you're all capable of discussing differences without resorting to calling names and denigrating other posters. If you choose to call names and denigrate others, you have no complaint when it comes back to you.

Her husband is a complete failure as president but that doesn't worry her. She knows the media will cover for him. How nice. Is this a first? The first lady sure is telling it like it is. I'm sure she's glad for all the help and kindness and support they give Sarah Palin and her family also. www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2...._the_media.html

There sure is a double standard in media coverage between Dems and Repubs. Imagine a president's wife being able to say out loud that they appreciate the media help. Geez-- imagine if Sarah Palin said that out loud. But, of course, she can't do that because it is not true. All she has is FOX news, and from time to time some radio host or internet piece will say something nice about her. If team Obama gets their way those minority media voices will be silenced-- not that I think that is at all possible.

I agree with what Michelle Obama says. Children shouldn't be dragged through the muck because someone disagrees with the parents' stand on issues, or what that parent does as a politician, or a celebrity. The kids are separate entities and should be treated as such. In most cases, to me, that means leaving them the heck alone! In this case, Michelle isn't talking about her husband, or the presidency. She's talking about their children and is expressing her thanks to the media for allowing her children to be children ... free of prying eyes.

I'm very glad for the Obama children. I'm glad I don't know a single thing about them. I wish other president's or presidential candidate's children enjoyed the same protections afforded to the Obama children.

NOW does not care about ALL women being insulted, just the chosen. Successful conservative women, and yes, we have some pretty ones, do not fit their idea of what a woman should be.
The Bristol Palin thing was, is, fascinating to watch. By all rights she should be a woman's lib model of what a young woman can do if she sets her mind to it, but they hate her for who she is, Sarah Palin's daughter. And the more she tells her story and tries to help young women understand the difficulties of being a young single Mom-- which should be applauded as a public service, the more they hate her. I think it makes some people bat crazy that Sarah did not throw her out, cut her off, and abandon her to a life of being a welfare Mom.
So strange... total different set of rules for conservative religious people-- like they are not human or something, conservative's kids don't have sex, do drugs, get drunk, whatever. WHY?? Because someone STRIVES to live a certain life does not mean they are immune to every day things and the pressures everyone else goes through. When religious people fall down they don't just bounce up and say "That's okay, live another day." It's more like we say..."Wow, I really screwed up, I need to make some major changes, be who I want to be." Then we pay our fines, have our babies, whatever the right thing to do is to accept responsibility for our mistake. We don't fight it, excuse it, dispose of it, or forget about it. What's wrong with that? Nothing I can see. It's better than just falling in to some abyss, IMO.
Just rambling here..

As am I, marsha, and I'd like to see the trend continue no matter who is seated in the Oval Office. There's no need to drag children through the mud because you don't care for their parents.

Yes, they loved Bush. Very very much. never said they loved him. i claimed they coddled him. and they did. softball questions from 9/12/01 through Katrina. pitiful bunch of cowards they were. afraid to be called out for being unpatriotic. towed the line. they should all be ashamed. they have done a better job since then. still piss poor, but better.

None of us actually knows why another person does something ... unless that person tells us why they did it and we have reason to believe them. Anything we come up with otherwise is simply conjecture.

Because she knew Bristol would be outted wrong. anyone else? She did it to quell rumors about her youngest child, that Bristol had actually given birth to Trig, not Sara.

Sarah Palin's 17-year-old , unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, the campaign has announced. Hoping to quell internet rumors about about her youngest son, Palin released the news about her daughter Bristol earlier today. A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child's father. Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, and the baby is due in late December. "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents," Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement. www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/01/palin-my-daughter-is-preg_n_122947.html
