Just got home from Job 2. I'm catching up on laundry. Today was the last day of Summer Term for me. But the admission interviews at both schools started today. Everything overlaps. I'm doing interviews online tomorrow but that's rare. In any case I’m done with classes till September, which WILL be my last semester. finnime I find it MUCH harder to get things done than before. Part of the reason I still work is so I don't spend even more time on the internet than I already do.

I just decluttered my last set of final exams, hopefully forever! I still have to input the marks but we need to wait a few days in case there are any last-minute "surprises".

Debthaven: 1 May 2024: 6,800 euros (Total savings goal: 15,300)I had a very good month. I also spent on DH's birthday, and on a minor medical procedure. I'll get some money back from insurance, but not much. The next few months should be pretty good too. PS I'm reducing again (slightly) in fall semester.

I am trying to get rid of my books, but it's hard.
I stopped trying to get rid of my books when DH decided that meant he had more room for HIS books LOL.
But I do buy more books on Kindle now. I didn't love it at first but I've gotten used to it, and books are significantly cheaper. And it's GREAT for travel!
Plus I'm in a book club and we read 10 books a year. They're not all books I would have chosen to buy, so I'm happy to pay less for the Kindle edition. If I really love a book, I order a physical copy (used). But it's rare.

Iggy aka IG 10 loads is a LOT! I'm guessing you're not WFH at all these days LOL. I'm curious why WFH isn't working for you even one day/week. I don't know your DH's schedule but can he start a couple of loads every week?

countrygirl2 you have SO MUCH STUFF. Canning stuff, clothes, patterns, fabric, notions. Not to mention your DH's Stuff ... What do you actually ENJOY doing in your (limited) free time? Keep those items, and donate the rest. You love to read ... invest in a Kindle where you store your books online, and you can make the type bigger which makes it easier to read as one gets older. Plus Kindle books are cheaper than buying (new) books online. Personally, I flat-out refuse to buy Crap from Temu or Shein. DH bought a shirt from Shein, he'll never do that again LOL. At those prices, you KNOW they use child labor. You have SO MUCH!!! Do you really need more of that crap, even if it's "cute"?! You have PLENTY. WAY MORE than plenty. Stop trying to get rid of Stuff with one hand and then buying more Stuff with the other. It's hypocritical to talk about getting rid of Stuff and then buying more on Temu because it's "cheap" and "cute". You're an intelligent woman ... who is making this cheap and cute stuff?! Elves?! That's my opinion. Sorry if it's harsh. Feel free to ignore it, but you're posting on this thread now, so I'm free to respond. My DH has too much Stuff too ( orders of magnitude less than you). He doesn't buy Stuff but he has a hard time getting rid of the Stuff he inherited from his (hoarder) mom. I'm sure you don't want to leave that burden to your son and DIL. Do you want them to raise your grandson, to help oversee your DD's care, or to sort through your Stuff? They won't have time to do ALL of the above. So YOU need to prioritize.
Choose the hobbies you want to continue, and let the rest go. I don't want to be harsh, but whatever age we are, our time and energy are limited. None of us know how long we will live. We all need to choose how to spend the time we have. My DS3 (DH's only bio kid) is 25. He is HORRIBLY anxious about what's going to happen to his Dad's Stuff when his Dad goes. I tell him, please don't worry! If your Dad can't be bothered to go through HIS parents' Stuff, why on earth should you?! You're going to move closer to your son/DDIL/grandson soon. They're what matters! So travel light.

Phone calls to schedule appointments are actually my very least favorite task-I hate it!
soupandstew there is an online platform here called Doctolib ... I don't know if it or something similar exists there. You can schedule an appt at 3 am without talking to anybody! Some doctors don't take new patients on that platform, and then you do have to call (or book an appointment in a fancy overpriced clinic, like I did last week to get my mole removed. It's great for appointments with your regular docs though! I book my GP, dentist, gynecologist and pulmonologist using that platform. You can also tick a box to be informed of any cancellations before the appt you booked.

DS1 just told me that they won't get the keys to their new house until June, so they won't move their Stuff out of here until August. At least we're in no rush to buy a new mattress. I have a few in my Amazon basket, waiting for a sale. Has anyone here bought a mattress on Amazon? It's for the guest room, and it's SO much cheaper! I'm looking at foam. Any advice?! This is a rough week for me. When I retired I promised myself I wouldn't "wish my life away", yet here we are again. Story of my life LOL.

I woke up before 6 for some reason so I Shitepiled... at 6 am. The new bed frame arrives tomorrow. DH will be here, I have to go to school to pick up my final exams. There was too much cheating online so the school went back to pen and paper. That means having to go in to pick them up, and then again to drop them off. Wed is a holiday here. I hope to finish marking the exams on Wed because I'm working all day Thurs and Fri.

DS2 and DH dismantled DS1's bed base from the upstairs guest room and took it to the basement near the rest of DS1's Stuff. Very happy that's done! The new base arrives on Tuesday. We'll replace the mattress later, after DS1 takes it.

The hardest part is getting started haapai . So well done! We have clothing/shoe/electronic recycling bins where you don't have to worry about the "quality" of the items you get rid of. Sharon I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I hope it gets sorted quickly. Glad you're safe startsmart ! I had the mole removed yesterday and then took a nap. Today I'm catching up on laundry. DS2+GF are coming over later, and next week will be crazy at work.

Kill me now... I agreed to do a class at Job 1 next fall. It's 2h/week, but no written marking. I want to keep my staff/faculty students, so it's better for me to be at school one day/week. Last fall I did 3h/week at Job 1, and 3h/week Job 2, both classes with marking. So this is easier. My goal has always been to cut down each semester. I've already told both jobs that I WON'T do next spring semester. And I mean it.

NastyWoman I had a similar issue with my wedding album with my ex. Imagine my surprise when my two older boys both wanted it! I'd leave it for your sons. If they get rid of it one day, so be it. You can get rid of other Stuff instead, and leave that to them. Welcome back moneysquirrel ! So happy you had a great trip!

I have never heard of the trade-in here.
IMO those seats would be fine for occasional use (for US ... I don't mean selling them.)
We're keeping them for now ... we'll see if/when the next grandkids appear and revisit the question then.

countrygirl2 personally I would NOT try to sell an old car seat, but I would give it away to somebody who could use it. The norms are updated all the time, and the foam is only OK for a certain period of time, then it expires. I'm so happy you are finally decluttering!!! You've talked about it for MANY YEARS! I remember you've decluttered a bit here and there. But then you always bought A LOT MORE Stuff LOL. To be honest, if you have mice in your fabric, and you haven't realized it until now, you probably have too much Stuff. There's no point in keeping Stuff if you don't use it or if it gets infested. It sounds like you are finally committed now. That's great! Best of luck to you!

wvugurl26 that sounds like great progress! Have fun with your guests! The new bed we ordered to replace DS1's which he's taking to their new house was supposed to arrive on Fri or Sat. In the end it's arriving on Tues. I'm a bit worried about taking DS1's bed downstairs to make room for the new bed. Happily DS3 arrives in mid May for 5 days. He can help his Dad with that.

I hope so too Rukh O'Rorke ! Can you find a cleaner for once/month for when finances improve? It sounds like your hands are VERY full ... Hoping all goes well with your mother.

Interesting thread!
I take Calcium and D3 in one tablet. I take 2 per day (one dose). I also take liquid D3 supplements once/month in winter.

We went to the garden center to get red geraniums for the outdoor pots. We also got a climbing rose to replace one that had died. It's cold out, so we probably won't plant them today. I'm WFH Mon and Tues, and at school Thurs. We'll plant them Wed if it's warmer. ETA: DH braved the cold and planted the geraniums.

The bed guy cancelled us at the last minute, and didn't tell us when he'd be available. We were hesitating between two wooden beds. I found the other one (brand new) on sale for 138 euros (he wanted 125), so I ordered it. I like buying gently used hard furnishings, but he was strangely incommunicative, and this way it'll be delivered.
