Seems fitting since there was hair talk, but I got mine done last Tuesday. I always aim to get in more frequently, but it never seems to happen. My hair was a mess this time. So much regrowth and the ends were just done with life. She fixed me right up and I tipped generously lol. She always makes me look amazing.

I took a drive around town and bought a chocolate chip cookie. My drive is fine. No new drifts. I called dad and told him we will go tomorrow. It's getting hot outside. It's up to -13! We are at least above zero today. Heat wave!

I just used my regular tax software to figure my taxes for 2018, my first year retired with a pension and social security. Egads! With federal and state combined, I'll owe just north of $2100, and that's with having federal withholding from social security and my pension, as well as making estimated tax payments to my state. On top of all this, I was in the hospital for two days earlier this month and my insurance company, in their all-knowing wisdom, has decided that it wasn't medically necessary. I'd love to pop them into my body back then and see what they say. If an appeal is denied, my savings account is going to take a huge hit. Happy new year to me! That INFURIATES me! Our system is so messed up. I love that people behind a computer screen get to decide what is medically necessary and what isn't. How many years do you think they spent in med school?

We are currently in the grips of this polar vortex. It was like -40 real feel outside. Of course, school was cancelled (and is already cancelled for tomorrow). I was really happy they suspended mail service in our area. Those poor postal workers don't need to be out walking all day in this- my mail can wait.
The joy of being stuck inside is that I got the entire house cleaned back up and in order. Double joy is that my son's school corporation institutes an E-Learning day when there is a snow day, so these 2 days won't have to be made up later!

H and I worked 10 hours on our old bathroom today. Minus a few tiny little touch ups, etc IT IS FINISHED!!! Finally!!!
We need to hook up the drain and install one piece of corner trim still, but I can start decorating the new shelves and giving it a good clean now! I never thought this day would come. 😂

My husband would really hate for me yo say we can’t afford something. It is a Machismo thing and Mexicans are more dangerous (as far as fundraiser go)b/c they understand the cultural thing. I do sometimes use it is not in the budget...I might use that-it may seem the same as can’t afford, but to me it says I chose to spend my $$ elsewhere. Then you don't give any explanation "I'm going to pass this time, but good luck" Big smile! This. It's not really anyone's business why you aren't purchasing/donating. Sometimes, I just don't even respond to group messages for fundraisers. If they hit me up again, then I would just say "can't right now, sorry"

The forecast for this weekend looks like we could end up with a significant amount of snow. I wouldn’t mind getting “snowed in” for a few days (it’s not that significant- I’m seeing anything from 4-7”). It would be a good excuse to start tackling the smaller declutter/organizing projects like the pantry or the junk drawer.
Our oven element decided to stop working last night, right in the middle of baking dinner. Thankfully we have an air fryer, and i was able to throw the chicken into it to finish it. H thinks a replacement should be in stock at a local supply store. If not, it’s going to be a few days without an oven. Im glad most of the meals on my meal plan this week will not require one.

I need the motivation to go work on the stack of papers in my lounge (moved there after cleaning the office) and going through a couple years worth of magazines. I've already cancelled the renewals on 2 magazines once I realized I didn't sit down and read a single one last year. I still get the magazine that I write for free but since most of my articles are exclusively online I can donate most of those. There's no real value to having 4 years of business magazines I don't read. Okay, I'm going into the lounge to work on papers and will check-in tonight. Hold me accountable! I had a huge stack of papers to go through this week too. So I brought them to the living room, cozied up on the couch, turned on a good movie, and knocked it out! It was much more enjoyable that way!

Soooo my inlaws stopped by today and randomly gave us a check for $25k. I am so overwhelmed and unsure how to allocate it. DH and I are thinking 10k to savings and the rest to debt and/or finishing the upstairs reno (around 7k) so baby has his own room finally instead of being in the playroom. There are so many possible scenarios... I almost cried! Whoa! I wouldn’t even know what to do if that happened to me! So many possibilities!

I think ordering out/getting takeout would be our biggest lazy expense.
We are big DIY-ers, so we’ve never hired out any work. Someday I think we will hit a point that “throwing money” at a task will be more of a possibility. There have been several projects we’ve been in the middle of and said “‘Man, I wish we would’ve just hired someone”.
(Side note: we’ve spent the last two years adding on to and remodeling our home... just me and my H).

UPDATE TO ADD STARTING NUMBERS
Hello! Allow me to re-introduce myself. I have been around WIR for several years now. I originated on the MSN Money board (MPDunleavy days), but got lost in the shuffle over to proboards. I found my way here a few years later (2013 ish) and you've been stuck with me since! I mostly stuck to the WIRR board, but came over to be a Saver 2 or 3 years ago. It has really helped motivate me to save more! I am 32 years old, married to my high school sweetheart, and we have 2 boys (8 & 3). I am a SAHM and I handle all of the financials at our house (numbers nerd!) My goals for 2019 are pretty similar to 2018, just with higher numbers. 1. Get our E.F. to $4,500.00 2. DS1's Savings to $2,000.00 3. DS2's Savings to $800.00 (2 & 3 are mostly reached with birthday/gifted money, piggy banks, etc). 4. (Not savers but $$ related) Auto loan under $16,000.00 (we have 2 vehicles combined in 1 auto loan). 5. Cash flow our family vacation to Disney. I should be able to post my starting numbers for the year tomorrow! I am looking forward to another great year saving money with you all! 2019 Savings | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEEDED | Emergency Fund | $2,091.03 | $2,091.03 | $4,500.00 | $2,408.97 | DS1's Savings | $1,750.51 | $1,750.51 | $2,000.00 | $249.49 | DS2's Savings | $576.65 | $576.65 | $800.00 | $223.35 | TOTALS | $4,418.19 | $4,418.19 | $7,300.00 | $2,881.81 |
NikiZ628 1/7/19 $4418.19 (Goal $7,300 WIRS1)

My decluttering and organizing goals for 2019: * Declutter 2,019 items. Last year I lost count, I hope to do a better job tracking this year. * Complete our attic conversion (to a bonus room). This will allow for better organization of the boys' toys/games/etc. * Work my way around each room of the house, organizing/purging as I do. I find when I break it down to a room at a time, I get more done. *Add me to the "purging pounds" club. Idk how many I need to purge because I haven't stepped foot on a scale since....thanksgiving. I'm afraid to see the damage. TO DO LIST for the next 2 weeks (Because I am WAY behind- it was nice taking time off from my to do list while my oldest was on break, but I am paying for it now) *this is a mix of my general to do list and extra tasks - Clean up the master bedroom- Do a quick go through of the clothing in the closet and dresser (I did my side a few months ago, H hasn't touched his in awhile) - Go through our bedside tables (3 drawers each) and purge/organize- Deep clean the master shower, clean the entire master bath - Clean up and organize/purge vanity drawers and wall cabinet- Go through bill organizer box and pull all 2018 items out for shredding - Clean off my desk- Find a new printer stand (preferably on wheels) - Completely go through each of the boys' bedrooms and purge/organize/find homes for Christmas presents - Clean up both boys' dresser drawers and DS1's closet --- - Take down the indoor Christmas decorations BONUS: It was unseasonably warm this weekend, so we got all of the outdoor decorations taken down, packed up, and back into the basement! - Move LR chair back to its spot (currently hanging out in our bedroom)- Shampoo couches - Go through cabinet in our dining room (it holds the boys' games/coloring supplies/etc). Toss out all the dried up markers and filled up coloring books, put away new coloring stuff from Christmas- Take more of our recycling to center - Put the kitchen back together from the holidays- Clean out the fridge- Go through DS1's first semester papers and toss what I don't plan to save- Clean the oven - Install the last few pieces of trim in our old bathroom. - Install the vanity in the old bathroom (how many times has that been on my to do list now? too many!) - Install the door on the old bathroom - Celebrate that the OLD BATHROOM IS FINALLY FINISHED - Dust/Vacuum/Mop the whole house - Return a few items to Wal-Mart - Call my bank re: confusing billing statement- Make hair appointment for myself - Return shirt to Kohl's - Finalize our vacation budget/plans I've been cleaning for 2 days straight...I am not finished but I am seeing a faint light at the end of the tunnel. I felt like virtually marking off what I've accomplished so far. I haven't marked off everything off this massive list, but I feel like I am caught back up enough to resume my regular cleaning schedule now. Phew. My word for the year is balance, so I am making a conscious effort to balance several aspects in my life- including how much/often I focus on house tasks (vs. spending time with my kids, etc). I am hoping to find that happy middle ground between immaculate homemaker and attentive & doting mother. (I laugh because I am not sure it exists...but it's worth a shot!) I also made a nice dent in my purge goal for the year: 573/2,019!!!!

This is just my personal experience but I think a lot of these people could be helped out if there was more personal finance and budgeting education in high school. I've said it before but when I was in school we had one quarter of one year that was consumer education where we briefly touched on things like budgeting and personal finance. Then I think of all the things in high school that I never had to use again in my life and why on earth did we have to take those things and so little attention was paid on a subject almost every single person will need....... personal finance. I completely agree with this. Things that would have been super helpful to learn in high school: budgeting, balancing a checkbook, basic tax and investing info... I have read a few articles lately of high schools holding "adulting days" where they teach all of these topics, as well as how to change a tire/change your oil, basic cooking/meal planning, etc. I promise that will all stick with them longer than calculus.

Maybe not applicable to this thread but Casey’s has the best gas station pizza ever, I mean it’s awesome. Accurate. They get a lot of our money that isn't budgeted for them.

I've been on thyroid meds since 2008. I started out on Synthroid/Levothyroxine for several years and did not feel any better. 3 or 4 years ago I asked my GP about trying natural meds, and now I am taking NP Thyroid. It is made from Pig or Cow thyroid (can't remember off hand), but I finally felt normal and energetic and I hadn't in years.
The old labs had anywhere from 0.5 to 5.0 as normal range. Newer information says 0.3 to 3.0 is the normal range. I'm closer to 0.3 and feel good. When I first found out I was hypothyroid my numbers were in the high 30's. I basically slept any time I wasn't at work. It was awful. My thyroid got ruined from the radiation I received as treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. When I first had mine tested, my TSH was 127! I was 3 months post partum with my 2nd child and went to my OB because I thought I had PPD. I did, but she called me after my appointment and asked me to come back the next day for labs. She suspected my thyroid might be off. Boy was she correct! I am so thankful for her intuition, otherwise I might never have found out.

Ugh. The new GP wants me to come in to go on thyroid meds. I told her I'd make an appt in the next couple of weeks. I want another opinion (my friend in NY). Apparently the French are notorious for overprescribing thyroid meds in middle-aged women. I think I will ask for another blood test in the spring before I start any meds. This weekend- lunch with D/Fri - donation bin/Fri- record play with DH/Fri - put away Christmas/Sat DH and DS3 stocked up on firewood so we should be good for the rest of the winter. I have another donation bag ready but I want to my new coat to arrive first.
I’ve been on them for 3 years (hypothyroid). My TSH is “normal” as long as I take them, but I’ve never felt like I’m getting better. Unfortunately here, thyroid issues aren’t something doctors stay up to date on for treatment and most are quick to say “you’re in a normal range, you’re fine”. 🤦🏽♀️

Hello Ladies... a gentleman here (hope you will not mind). I was part of this group back in 2016 and took a break (a lot happening). 2019 will be tight for us because we have a high savings rate that I would like for us to achieve and maintain while also keeping budget in line / cutting back and keeping everything going smooth and sending any extra (if any) towards paying down debt. I have a 6 year plan for the debt payoff so this is why savings is a priority to that but if I can accelerate that too and pay less interest (income increase / cut back in spending) that would be great too. We are also planning on starting to start the process for baby #2. The Savings goals I have for us : 1. Max 401k - $19,000 2. 401k Match - $3,000 3. Max 403b - $19,000 4. 403b Match - $6,000 5. Max HSA - $6,500 6. HSA match - $500 7. Max FSA - $2,700 (but that is used/spend by the end of the year). 8. DD savings account - $1,560 9. DD 529 account - $1,740 Grand total $60,000 : now having it on paper I see how crazy the goal is! It will be TIGHT! I wish all of you ladies the best of luck reaching your savings goals! cawiau 01/03/2019 $0.00 ( Goal = $60,000) Glad to see you back here!!

Knee Deep in Water Chloe I think it's something to aspire to but you need to accept that your "ideal day" may sometimes be derailed by other people. I don't know anything about msventoux 's system but it sounds interesting! Can you organize yourself by location? Up at 6.30 today to get my fasting blood test done. Now I can fret about the results.
I cleaned out DH's side of the medicine chest last night. I got him some toiletries for Christmas. Not only was there no room, but he already had one item. We exchanged it and I made room for the rest.
This week
- Mend DH's jacket/Tues - Catch up on laundry/Tues - exchange DH's gift/Wed - clear out DH's side of the medicine chest/Wed
- blood test/Thurs
- bottle bank/Thurs
- work on lines w K/Thurs
nikiz628 is that the second bathroom? Can you post pix? It’s the original bathroom that we converted to a bathroom/laundry room (not the one we added on- I think I shared pics of that one last year). It’s been sitting at 75% finished since spring because we hit a wall after doing the addition. We just needed a home Reno break for a few months. Now we are kicking it into high gear to get it done.
