My decluttering and organizing goals for 2019:
* Declutter 2,019 items. Last year I lost count, I hope to do a better job tracking this year. * Complete our attic conversion (to a bonus room). This will allow for better organization of the boys' toys/games/etc. * Work my way around each room of the house, organizing/purging as I do. I find when I break it down to a room at a time, I get more done. *Add me to the "purging pounds" club. Idk how many I need to purge because I haven't stepped foot on a scale since....thanksgiving. I'm afraid to see the damage.
TO DO LIST for the next 2 weeks (Because I am WAY behind- it was nice taking time off from my to do list while my oldest was on break, but I am paying for it now)
*this is a mix of my general to do list and extra tasks
- Clean up the master bedroom - Do a quick go through of the clothing in the closet and dresser (I did my side a few months ago, H hasn't touched his in awhile) - Go through our bedside tables (3 drawers each) and purge/organize - Deep clean the master shower, clean the entire master bath - Clean up and organize/purge vanity drawers and wall cabinet - Go through bill organizer box and pull all 2018 items out for shredding - Clean off my desk - Find a new printer stand (preferably on wheels) - Completely go through each of the boys' bedrooms and purge/organize/find homes for Christmas presents - Clean up both boys' dresser drawers and DS1's closet - Take down the indoor Christmas decorations - Move LR chair back to its spot (currently hanging out in our bedroom) - Shampoo couches - Go through cabinet in our dining room (it holds the boys' games/coloring supplies/etc). Toss out all the dried up markers and filled up coloring books, put away new coloring stuff from Christmas - Take more of our recycling to center - Put the kitchen back together from the holidays - Clean out the fridge - Go through DS1's first semester papers and toss what I don't plan to save - Clean the oven - Install the last few pieces of trim in our old bathroom. - Install the vanity in the old bathroom (how many times has that been on my to do list now? too many!) - Install the door on the old bathroom - Celebrate that the OLD BATHROOM IS FINALLY FINISHED - Dust/Vacuum/Mop the whole house - Return a few items to Wal-Mart - Call my bank re: confusing billing statement - Make hair appointment for myself - Return shirt to Kohl's - Finalize our vacation budget/plans

Hello! Allow me to re-introduce myself. I have been around WIR for several years now. I originated on the MSN Money board (MPDunleavy days), but got lost in the shuffle over to proboards. I found my way here a few years later (2013 ish) and you've been stuck with me since! I mostly stuck to the WIRR board, but came over to be a Saver 2 or 3 years ago. It has really helped motivate me to save more! I am 32 years old, married to my high school sweetheart, and we have 2 boys (8 & 3). I am a SAHM and I handle all of the financials at our house (numbers nerd!) My goals for 2019 are pretty similar to 2018, just with higher numbers. 1. Get our E.F. to $4,500.00 2. DS1's Savings to $2,000.00 3. DS2's Savings to $800.00 (2 & 3 are mostly reached with birthday/gifted money, piggy banks, etc). 4. (Not savers but $$ related) Auto loan under $16,000.00 (we have 2 vehicles combined in 1 auto loan). 5. Cash flow our family vacation to Disney. I should be able to post my starting numbers for the year tomorrow! I am looking forward to another great year saving money with you all!

Dad finally told sister that DN1 came to visit. She's livid. She's livid at him and she's livid at me. She never wants his name mentioned to her and she wants to know nothing about him. With that, she hung up the phone. Wow. Maybe instead of being angry, she should reflect on why her OWN SON came to visit and didn't want her to know about it. I am sorry regardless that you're getting her anger.

Definitely locally on the bread. I'm putting this here. I wrote it on the YM Off Topic thread since we learned of Jaguar's passing. I'm another person who enjoys my internet friends. There are often days that the only contact I have with people are online. I appreciate each and every one of you. So much this. We may have come here for money talk and organizing tips- but we found so much more. ❤️

I am DETERMINED to have a productive day! I swear, post-vacation sleepiness is at an all time high right now and I need energy! Hoping to get the bookshelves fixed today (book reshuffle and moving some decor around) then clear off the dining room table, getting the linens boxed and moved out to the garage and cleaning the kitchen counters. That's all I need to feel productive. I am catching up on all my emails and work projects before I turn back to scanning photos. Priority so far is: 1) general cleaning of messiness 2) work emails / projects / notes 3) scan last few stacks of photos and sort them 4) sewing projects 5) cleaning / staging house Oh and I'm also trying to finish reading 4 books in the next 2 weeks which is great for the 100 page book on writing I started but bad because I have 400 pages left to go in Hamilton You got this! Sending you all the energetic vibes!

How are we 9 days away from Christmas? Throwing together my to do list for the week:
*Clean out the fridge and organize the freezer/take stock of what we have on hand so we can use it up (probably won't hurt to add my cabinets into this to do- with the end of the year looming) * Clean and mop bathrooms * Dust/Vacuum the house* Clean the kitchen* Laundry * Drop Off Recycling * Grocery Store* Wrap last 3 Christmas presents when they are delivered (1 done, 1 should be here today, 1 tomorrow) * Bake Christmas cookies with the kiddos * Christmas at my mother's (Saturday) * Christmas at my father's (Sunday) * Return 2 items to Wal-Mart * Continue transferring files over to my new laptop * Clean up my emails * Run the car through the automatic car wash (salt!) * Transfer important dates to my new planner (I've done Jan-June so far) *Get my year end numbers together for WIRS/WIRR A little mid week update.

I just finished my budget for 2019, and I am very happy with how it's looking. It should be another good year for saving and living "comfortably." (Which still blows my mind considering 6-8 years ago we were on the verge of losing EVERYTHING). We will also continue to pay down on our 2 cars and HELOC debt. Here are my financial goals for 2019: 1. DS1's savings to $2,000.00. 2. DS2's savings to $800.00. 3. Emergency fund to $4,500.00. 4. Combined auto loans below $15,500.00. I may add to this as the year progresses, but I think these are attainable goals for 2019.

Christmas shopping is complete! I spent more this year than last, mostly because I wanted to/we had more disposable income for gifts this year. I still managed to save a TON by shopping sales, coupons, earning cashback. (my final Spent vs. Would've Spent numbers aren't totaled yet- this will be my 3rd or 4th year tracking this, it's fun to see just how much I save!)
Also, all Christmas was purchased WITHOUT credit cards..again! WIN!

A Few Updates: *I just finished my Christmas shopping! (I need to buy DS1's "Santa" gift. The money is set aside for it, I am just dragging my feet because 1. Not 100% sure he needs it. 2. Trying to catch a sale.) *Everything that has been delivered is wrapped and under the tree. * We just finished our last pre-holiday obligation (school Christmas program). Whew. *We will celebrate Christmas at my mom's next Saturday and at my dad's next Sunday. This will be the FIRST year in my 32 years of life that I will not have to be ANYWHERE on Christmas day. I am giddy with excitement! Very much looking forward to a day of staying in our pajamas, playing with the kids, and enjoying the 24 hour Christmas Story Marathon!

They are building one on the south side of the city where we go to shop. The only Menards was on the north probably 40 miles at least from the house. Hubs can hardly wait, this will make it about 20 to 25 miles to it which is great. To get to the other had to drive completely through the city then north up and around. Idk if you've ever said where you are from, but reading this makes it sound like you are in my extended area. We have 1 Menards, which is north in the city, but they are currently building a new location on the south side. Now I am sitting here wondering if it's just a crazy coincidence lol.

Didn't know that, may have to reconsider. They are opening a new Menards north of us in the next few months. They are building it now. I figure they will have some great opening sales. We love Menards. They often have great sales. Their 11% rebate sale has been a lifesaver with our home addition and all the reno. To date, we've received $1,370.26 back in rebates. That's covered a lot of material!

I SURVIVED PTO Christmas Week 2018 Seriously, I should have just moved into DS1's elementary school for the week. It was "Santa Shop" week, which is when we set up a store in the conference room for the kids to shop for their families. The week ended with our annual Christmas movie night last night, complete with the jolly fat guy coming for photos, a holiday craft, snacks, and a viewing of the movie Elf. The movie night is my "baby", as I introduced the idea 2 years ago when DS1 started school there. I basically spearhead that event, so there's a lot of behind the scenes action leading up to that night. I LOVE this week and dread it so much at the same time. It's exhausting spending every day at the school, helping littles count out money (and having to explain a million times that "sorry sweetheart, you don't have enough to buy all of that), restocking the tables after a class of 30 kids destroy them.... but seeing the joy in their faces when they find "THE PERFECT" gift for their mom or dad or whoever- THAT makes it worth it (I also love getting to hang out with DS1 at school as well). I had my 3 year old there with me all week and he was a trooper, but just added to my exhaustion. Our PTO is small. We have 5 officers and that's basically all we have working any event we do for the 300 students. Thankfully we did get a small handful of moms who helped sporadically in the store throughout the week, so that was nice. But today, I have literally done NOTHING but hold down my couch. I'm exhausted and sore and dangit, I earned a day off.

bean29- I wish you would've posted your DD's wish list last week. Kate Spade had a surprise 75% off sale. It made most of the items a steal in comparison to the usual price points. I bet she will love the MK bag you found at Macy's though- great quality and should last forever!

TO DO: THIS WEEKClean out the fridge (doing this tonight, leftover night for dinner) Dust/VacClean the kitchen Do laundry Put said laundry away Drop off recycling Grocery storeGet Christmas cards finished and mailed Exchange an item at Wal-Mart Finish hooking up the outdoor Christmas lights (all are up, just need the extension cords to make them glow) Transfer my old files to my new laptop Wrap Christmas gifts as they get delivered (Sorry, UPS guy- you're about to see a lot of my house) Do end of the month budget check/balance checkbookMake Christmas signs for PTO movie night Finalize craft details for PTO movie nightPick up flyers (and deliver to school) for PTO movie night Have DS1 try on his Christmas program outfit- return if it doesn't fit Poly wood countertop for old bathroom Finish vanity frame for old bathroom & install Set up Santa shop Thurs night @ DS1s school Review Christmas shopping list and finish up shopping Just chugging along. DS2 now has pinkeye, so I am basically disinfecting my entire house constantly. And 3 year olds DO NOT understand "do not touch your eyes!" (They are also freakishly strong when fighting off eye drops). DS1 had it last week and I thought we had done a good job keeping it contained to just him. Nope.

Update on Savings Goals #2-11/29/2018
2018 Secondary | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEED | E.F. | $2000.00 | $2188.29 | $2500.00 | $311.71 | GENERAL SAVINGS | $95.00 | $220.00 | $500.00 | $280.00 | TOTALS | $2095.00 | $2408.29 | $3000.00 | $591.71 |
NikiZ628(2) 11/29/18 $2408.29 (Goal $3000.00 WIRS14)
I had to tap into the general savings to pay a doctor bill, so that fund continues to do its job! My automatic savings deposits end this week (helps me free up a little bit of $$ for last minute Christmas shopping), so this is probably going to be it for the year for me. H is still waiting on his Christmas bonus, so depending on what that ends up being, I may be able to hit that stretch goal for our EF (fingers crossed). His boss mentioned a pay raise again, so I am hoping that pans out as well. I paused my 2019 budget planning for now to see if that happens (again FINGERS CROSSED). That would affect our savings goals for next year as well, so as much as I hate it, I am in a holding pattern on my numbers game.

I have also been doing this. I am terrible about wearing socks with holes around the house (drives DH nuts). I will wear mis-matched socks around the house instead of tossing both socks because only one has holes. Cleaned our office in the house. It was complete clutter and a dumping ground for stuff. We are looking around for a smaller desk and will be heading to Amish country since locally we have been unsuccessful. I need to go thru the file cabinet and start shredding papers to downsize that. There are papers from when the kids went to daycare over 5 years ago. Next project is the 1/2 bath. We have the contractor lined up. I have ordered the tile, cabinet and sink. Need to get all the misc. items before he starts. Spoke to him last night and it might be after Christmas. That is fine with us. Hole-y socks become cleaning rags in this house Although I am guilty of wearing them with holes for longer than I should....

I DID IT!!!! With this update, I hit my final goal for 2018- to have this race under $20,000! I know we added to this loan this year when H purchased his truck, but I am really happy we are paying this race down as quickly as we can. Now to calculate how much we can pay off in 2019, so I can set that goal!

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. It was a whirlwind here, even though we didn't really go anywhere. Lots of time spent with my H and the boys- which is always my favorite. We took them to Christmas at the Zoo to see the light displays on Saturday. A little pricey but totally worth it- the boys had a blast! DS1 went back to school yesterday, but H took the day off to extend his holiday time, so today is the first day things are "back to normal" for me and DS2. I am trying to get the house back together and work on my to do list for the week.

I spent the afternoon cleaning up my kitchen, gathering all my Thanksgiving recipes, and checking off some last "to do's" for Thursday. I am preparing our Thanksgiving dinner, but it's just for the 4 of us. Last year was the first year I ever made Thanksgiving dinner just for us and now its our new tradition (my parents divorced when I was 4 so- too many years spent visiting multiple families on both sides + now that I am married we have to add in IL's= holiday travel burnout). It's very nice to just do our own thing. My mother and my mother in law generally each plan a dinner on different days, so we still get family time as well. WIN. WIN.
I also spent last night prepping for Black Friday shopping. I am not really impressed with the ads this year, but I did spot a few things on my list so I wanted to make sure I was organized. I do my BF shopping completely online, if possible, because no thanks to fighting mobs on Thanksgiving day.

Went through the "character bucket" in our living room (its a canvas bucket that holds all the little toys that go with the Little People sets, etc).
Tossed 18 Happy Meal toys into a donate bag. I hate those things.

Oh teachermom, I am so sorry to hear about your son! I cannot imagine what you all have been going through. You know we will be here if you need someone to lean on- take care of yourself and I will keep your son (and you) in my prayers.
