We are having our family yard sale tomorrow and Saturday at my mothers house. My sister picked a great weekend for this, considering we are under a high heat advisory until early next week and the real feel predication for tomorrow is 106. 🥵
Hopefully it doesn’t hurt our traffic, I really want to unload my stuff!

We sold H’s old truck tonight- cash! The buyer offered $1000 less than we were asking, but it’s still $1200ish more than we owe on it so I’ll call that a win! H is going to the bank to pay it off tomorrow, so I hope to have an update on my Race 2, which is our two vehicles combined in one loan. 🎉

I went on a cleaning spree today and deep cleaned the whole house. It smells so nice in here! I also went through the toys that we keep in our living room and purged a bunch.
51 items total today!
Count for the year: 953/2,019

Goals for this week: Monday- no spending Tuesday- Taco Tuesday date with friends, budgeted spending Wednesday- small grocery trip to get milk/bread/snacks for hotel room Thursday- No spending Friday- No Spending Saturday- Hotel expense for tournament, budgeted spending. Dinner with team, hoping to keep it cheap. I am planning to pack lots of drinks and snacks to avoid the concession stand and other temptations Sunday- Packing breakfast for the hotel room and snacks for the tournament. Dinner could potentially be purchased depending on how far they go in the tournament. Update on last week's goals: Monday- H spent $6 at the gas station. Tuesday- Taco Tuesday date with friends- we stayed under budget because I ordered water instead of a tea. And because we go every week, they know us- the waiter gave us free margaritas! Score! Wednesday- Spent $40 at Walmart on milk, bread, and snacks/drinks for the baseball tournament Thursday- No spending Friday- Splurged and bought my sport wagon. $40- BEST investment made for baseball to date Saturday- Packed hot dogs and snacks/drinks for tournament. Spent $0 at the ballpark. We did spend $23 on pizza at the hotel, budgeted expense Sunday- Did buy breakfast at the hotel (it was $7 per adult for all you could eat, kids ate free- so $14 for all 4 of us to eat). Didn't spend any $ at the ballpark, DS's tournament ended early with a loss, so we were home for dinner. Cooked at home.

Hi all, Have any of you poked your head over in the Market Talk thread? It looks like there is some suspicious posts to me. To the point that I may remove my information from this thread.
What do you mean? I am going to pop on over there now to see whats up. ETA: I am not seeing anything in Market Talk- maybe I am not looking in the right spot.

I haven't managed to do much of anything. Dad has had medical stuff happening and last week he went in for day surgery. They did not find what everyone thought was a kidney stone. Instead there is a tumor that was blocking the drain line from the kidney to the bladder. So now we are in a holding pattern until he talks with his doctor's partner. There is a possibility that he will end up loosing a kidney due to this so I am just quietly stressing and looking at things I should be doing but I haven't done anything. Instead I have got things coming in instead of out. Everyone else keep up the good work. Thinking of you and your dad! <3

Absolutely filthy from yard work today. The garden guy is in budget but can’t do the work for 2 weeks 🙁 So I moved the table saw to the front yard and the bench to the backyard. Then the lawn mower decided to work so I quickly cut the grass and just have the edges to finish up with the string trimmer. 4 planters in the backyard and 1 in the front have fresh flowers. I’ve dragged the mulch to the backyard but haven’t spread it out yet. I’ll need to work on a few outdoor things tomorrow and then we’ll see if good is good enough for now. There’s still a lot of work to do indoors but at least it’s not as humid in here. I have 3 hours of client calls tomorrow so I’ll work around that to finish up in the kitchen. Off to take a cold bath and clean up while chicken is cooking in the instapot. I’ll make a big salad for dinner when I get hungry. Enjoy that bath, it sounds like you earned it!

To Do's For This Week:
*Finish stripping the deck. I power washed the peeling stain off last week. I bought stripper and need to apply it to get the remaining stain off. I am so irritated with our deck. This was the stain that was supposed to last 10 years, it didn't even make it 1 without peeling off like paper.
*Spray the driveway, the weeds are currently winning the battle again
*Go through toys and books in DS1's room
* Organize the pantry
I've already cleaned the whole house for the week, so it should just be simple cleaning to keep it that way this week.

Last week went pretty well. There were 2 instances of unnecessary spending at the gas station (drinks, snacks) but it kept us from going out to eat while running errands.(under $20 total). This week should be a true no spend week...unless I decide to buy the collapsible sports wagon I have had my eye on. The price is approx. $40. DS1 has an out of town baseball tournament this weekend and all of the parents have those nice wagons. It would make my life so much easier if I bought one, especially with DS2 (he's 3) needing so many things to keep him occupied while we are there.
UPDATE: Race #2 7/2/19
RACE #2 | INTEREST | ORIGINAL | LAST UPDATE | THIS UPDATE | DIFFERENCE | Auto Loans (2 cars) | 4.23% | $32,991.93 | $17,722.11 | $17,375.91 | $346.20 |
NikiZ628 (2): 7/2/19 $17,375.91 (3/26/18 $32,991.93) Total Paid in 2019: $2,153.19 Total Paid Overall: $15,616.02
Trucking right along. Hopefully H can sell his old truck ASAP and we can remove it off this combined loan. The goal is to have this race under $16,000 by the end of the year -- only $1375.92 to go. The truck balance is approximately $4000 of this loan, so selling it will make a big dent in the balance!

Our main goal is to just not spend this month on anything that's not necessary (I know that definition varies to people). I plan to go the grocery store this week to get a few things, and then not go until the end of the month. We have enough here that we should only have to go for milk & bread in the between time. No eating out, with the exception of our weekly taco tuesday date with friends ($1 tacos, we go more for the convo than the food). No random toys for the kiddos. Use the car as little as possible to save gas. No online shopping.

June Update:
2019 Savings | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEED | Emergency Fund | $2,091.03 | $3,083.60 | $4,500.00 | $1,416.40 | DS1's Savings | $1,750.51 | $1,851.06 | $2,000.00 | $148.94 | DS2's Savings | $576.65 | $676.84 | $800.00 | $123.16 | TOTALS | $4,418.19 | $5,611.50 | $7,300.00 | $1,688.50 |
NikiZ628 7/1/2019 $5,611.50 (Goal $7,300 WIRS1)
Our EF took a small hit as we prepare for H's job change. Unfortunately, we probably won't be adding to our savings in July. The good news is, I should not have to touch any more of our savings while we wait 3 weeks for his first check. Fingers crossed for no unforseen expenses.

Care if I jump in over here? We are doing a no spend month this month since my H is going 3 weeks without a paycheck (switching jobs, starting in between a pay cycle at new job).

New Race!
This will be race number 4 for me- the amount stings a bit, but H is so thrilled with his new truck. This should last him for quite some time too. Once we sell his current truck, my auto loan (race #2) will reduce and the payment will decrease again as well, so that will help ease the "blow". Race #4 | Interest Rate | Starting Balance | Current Balance | Difference | Truck Loan | 4.8% | $25,000.00 | $25,000.00 | 0000 |
NikiZ628(4) 6/26/2019 $25,000 (6/26/19 $25,000 WIRR197)

<snip> In Indiana, renewals are by first letter of your last name. <snip> What does that mean? I'll be moving there next year and will have to register my vehicle a couple years later--current reg is good until 2023 or 2025 so I won't be in any hurry to update but I'm curious nonetheless. You expiration date on your plates is based on the first letters of your last name. Our last name starts with Z, so we get the wonderful expiration date of 12/21. My sister's last name starts with an M, so she gets the expiration date of 7/21, etc. Here is a document that has the dates so you can reference what timeframe your plates would expire. www.in.gov/bmv/files/Registration_Expiration_Schedule.pdf

H met with his new boss today to go over some things before she takes off for her summer vacation- he came home with a BOOK of paperwork to fill out. Tax papers, retirement, health insurance. It's times like this I don't feel very adulty, it's overwhelming to figure out to say the least. 32 years old and this stuff still confuses me. In other money news, it looks like H is purchasing a new truck. Now that he no longer has a company vehicle, he needs something a bit more reliable than the truck he currently has. As much as I hate that I will have a new race to race, the truck is beautiful and he was able to negotiate a decent price. He can pick it up in the next day or so, they are replacing the headlights (they had condensation in them when it was traded in) and cleaning it up (it was literally JUST traded in this weekend). I told him this is his birthday gift this year, and most of his Christmas haha. Once we sell his current truck, my loan on my SUV will go down (it's tied in to it) and my payment will reduce back to what it was before we added his truck. That will help a bit. The only thing that will truly sting is the plate fees. In Indiana, renewals are by first letter of your last name. Ours is literally due 2 days before Christmas- Merry Christmas from the BMV. He is going from a 2007 model to a 2016, so it's going to be a BIG jump in amount due.

A productive crew! DH's BD and Solstice party went well. Mom Nature was crabby and produced a hail storm right before people started arriving. The good news is because of the moisture we continue to have, we were able to have a campfire. After the downpour, the sky produced a double rainbow which delighted everyone. 28 people, 3 dogs, great conversations and a ton of food. It was a good time. Beforehand: Dusted the entire rec and guest rooms Emptied the dishwasher and hand washed dishes Made pasta salad and premixed one of the specialty cocktails
Fussed with lighting for ambiance purposes
Picked up our room Sounds like a fun time!

I have a million things I want to do around the house this summer and we are entering week 4 of summer break already. This week I want to get the drywall off the ceiling in the kitchen. The cabinet maker is coming tomorrow night to see the space and finish up design and finalize quote. After the ceiling is down, we can focus on replacing lights. Next step will be to have the ceiling installed, replace patio door and finish the drywall around the door. Hoping the kitchen cabinets can be made and installed sometime in September or October at the latest. We won't remove existing cabinets until the week before cabinets are ready for install. After kitchen is done, we can think about flooring. We are going to be broke. Week 4 of summer break from school? Our students just started their summer break at the end of last week. We are on week 4 too. Our kids got out the week before Memorial Day, but they go back August 7th. I feel like summer is slipping away.

I spent today doing all of my normal weekly cleaning tasks, so I am starting out this week ahead of the game. Luckily Indiana didn't get the memo that it's the end of June and has been giving us spring like weather the past 2 weeks. My A/C is off and I am loving it.
My to do list is rather "short" now:
Take yard sale items to my mother's (she's hosting our multi family yard sale this year) Thyroid ultrasound Wednesday afternoon (send good vibes as my Dr. felt nodules at my exam last week) Drop off recycling Grocery Store Mow/Weedeat Finish weeding south side of deck flower bed (its the last one that needs attention) Strip deck stain Replace 2 busted deck boards Deliver sponsor recognition plaques for baseball sponsors Help DS1 clean/organize his bedroom Clean area rug in LR Create spreadsheet for tshirt orders (baseball related task) Call bank re: auto loan question

A few hiccups in my planning for H's impending job change.
He told current employer that he would be there until 6/28, as he starts his new job 7/1. Today, his boss came in and said "tomorrow will be your last day- I will buy out your remaining vacation days". We knew he was going to get to cash out his vacation days, but we anticipated at least 3 more paychecks from his current job on top of that. Now it's looking like it will be 1.75 weeks plus his remaining days. Ouch.
To pile on the ouch, I checked with my friend who is a teacher in the school corporation he is starting his job at. The way the pay periods fall and his start date...he's going to go 3 weeks before he gets a paycheck. Double ouch.
So, I am currently crunching numbers, I paused our automatic savings transfers for the next 2 months, and figuring out the best way to survive 3 weeks without a paycheck without draining our savings a ton. Ughhhh.

I love gardening, but I have definitely cut back on what I do each year. I have a beautiful bed in the front that I meticulously planned and planted after we finished the house addition. My deck outback also has nice landscaping around it. We used to do a big vegetable garden, but found that we just can't get out to care for it like we used to. We haven't done one for two years now. I miss it but I know that someday we will have more time for it.
I have one bed near my deck that needs my attention soon. It's the only one I neglected to install landscape fabric under before mulching and its being overrun with grass and weeds.

nikiz628 - I hope the new job is all that your H wants it to be. Not to add to your stress, but given that the new job is for 240 days a year, that's only 2/3 of the year. For 120 days each year, he won't be getting paid. That means his paychecks during the time he is getting paid will be much larger than you are used to, but you will definitely need a savings plan in place to cover the 4 months each year he is not getting paid. Or will he be able to elect (as some teachers are) to have a smaller paycheck during the school year, in order to be paid regularly during the time he is on hiatus? Oh believe me, this was my first question when he started considering this job. It's year round pay, regardless of when he works or not- he also has the flexibility to decide when he works, as long as he gets 240 days in a year. He will be in charge of maintaining all of the school IPADs/projectors/computers/etc, ensuring the networks are up and running in all buildings, web and building security, and other nerdy things of that nature. The busiest time for him will be right before school starts, as they get everything prepped for students returning. The current IT admin takes off the month of June and all school holidays (she's contracted at 220 though, so she gets a few more days off than he does).
