I hope it goes well with the sale TheO! One more thing out of the house! I had my cast party late last March. The director left a shopping bag and tea towel. This Thurs is the AGM for our theater troupe. I texted her to ask her if she's going, she is. So that shopping bag (tea towel inside) is now in the car! It has been "in transit" since March! As I mentioned yesterday, DS2 came over for dinner last night, and I went to bed late. This is literally the first day since last Mon that I have not had a social engagement.I told A that I am not doing great so I'm not sure to see her tomorrow after work. She was fine with that, but I'd still like to try. We'll see.
Echoing what others have said, please take care of you! I hope you're able to have a quiet, recharging day very soon.

I decluttered a lot today... all of the party stuff for DS1's birthday that has been sitting in my room awaiting his party. Of course, new presents came home with us. Mostly clothes and money though, perks of being 9 now. I am having a lot of feelings about my baby being halfway to 18 already.

As of right now, I think I can keep my payment at the higher amount (that included the second truck that we sold), so that I don't need to refinance for a lower payment/can make a bigger dent each month.

August Update:
2019 Savings | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEED | Emergency Fund | $2,091.03 | $2238.12 | $4,500.00 | $2261.88 | DS1's Savings | $1,750.51 | $1,851.06 | $2,000.00 | $148.94 | DS2's Savings | $576.65 | $676.84 | $800.00 | $123.16 | TOTALS | $4,418.19 | $4,766.02 | $7,300.00 | $2,533.98 |
NikiZ628 8/31/2019 $4,766.02 (Goal $7,300 WIRS1)
Like I said previously, the EF took a bit of a hit to pay for some medical bills. It still stings, and probably makes our goal super unrealistic now, but I am glad we had the money saved when it was needed.

I am in such a funk. I don't feel like doing anything around the house. This kitchen remodel is a debacle. We still haven't decided on cabinets. The lighting lady is coming Friday to help us with lighting layout and we will make a decision to get that done. Then the ceiling can be put back up. Kids are going back to school next week. We have all their school supplies purchased. Kids have eye doctor appointments next week. Kids are getting haircuts today. We have had a broken window in our house since last March. Finally made the call for someone to come measure on Thursday (can't take window out) and get that fixed. I need to clean our house. It is such a mess. I'm hoping to find the energy Thursday/Friday this week. Especially since there are people coming in to do things. So embarrassing. I need to keep up with this tread, because it really is motivating to read the progress everyone is making. Girl, I totally understand. We’ve been living in perpetual construction since 2016. (We added on to our house and have renovated a few rooms- totally on our own). I’m so proud of the work we’ve accomplished but some days I’m so over it.

No, we never had insurance before his new job. His previous employer didn't provide it and the marketplace options for our area were a joke. I've just paid out of pocket for all medical stuff up until now. I would have waited for his new insurance to kick in but my doctor was leaving our family practice and I wanted to get in with her one last time before she left- plus I was due for labs before they would renew my thyroid medication. The ultrasound was unexpected but she thought she felt nodules and I was having issues swallowing/having ear pain from the pressure of my enlarged thyroid, so she didn't want me to wait on a scan. I kind of wish I would have now haha. Yikes, that must have been scary with two little boys and provide you with an additional reason to be happy with your hubby's new job! It could have been pretty scary, but both boys have always had insurance. We qualified (barely) for state insurance for them, but it's not the free plan, we pay monthly for it. Thank goodness for it though.

nikiz628 Can you contact the provider and negotiate the amount down by pay cash all at once. That's my plan. Last time I got 10% off for paying it in full. Anything helps.

Well, I was so excited about not having to touch it during H's job transition month, but now it looks like our savings is about to take a hit. I have received approx. $1,000 in medical bills this past week. I had to have an ultrasound on my thyroid last month and of course, I wasn't insured then, so the bills sting. It's just crazy to me that I was at the hospital less than 10 minutes having the scan and its this much money. Alas, I want to get them paid off, I don't really want to mess around setting up a payment plan because our budget is foggy enough with the new job/pay schedule and I don't want to end up screwing us somehow. I know this is why we have emergency funds, but sheesh. I hate touching it. I have a question regarding your insurance. I know that it was because your husband was between jobs, but was he not eligible for COBRA? If he was check that out quickly because you can apply retroactively for a couple of months. It may be cheaper to get that coverage than carry the entire bill. Would depend on the insurance rate and your deductible of course but it is worth looking into No, we never had insurance before his new job. Total Paid in 2019: $249.47 Total Amount Paid Off: $249.47 My original starting number on this (25,000) was actually wrong. It should have said $25,195.00. I've adjusted my tagline to reflect that, so hopefully it gets changed in the updates posts moving forward. Anway- FIRST payment officially made on this race!

I decluttered 20 items from our garage this past week. It's finally "clean". I use that term loosely because it's still a mess as far as organization goes. But until we use up our construction supplies, I can't really do much more in there. It looks a million times better now though.
Purge count: 973/2,019 items for the year.
I also sold $23 worth of baby clothes on FB tonight. I had already counted these items in a purge, so while they don't change my number, they did fill my wallet and empty out half of my remaining baby items!

You can get SiriusXM for $5 per month every 6 months if you are willing to play the game of calling them every 6 months. It's the Select package. You have to call before it runs out or they will charge you. This is what we do. Worth the phone call.

We are also planning for a necessities only spend month here. Once school starts on Wednesday for DS1, we should be able to "start" our month.
Upcoming "Necessary" Expenses (that aren't regular expenses)
1. School fundraiser participation- I budget $40 for this each year. Our school only does 1 selling fundraiser a year, and as the PTO secretary, I make sure we participate.
2. DS1's birthday party- his birthday is Sept 7th but I will purchase supplies/decor/etc this month.
3. DS2's birthday party- his birthday isn't until October, but I plan to start shopping for it if I find good deals.
4. Christmas- I always start shopping early, but this will be the first year DH doesn't get a Christmas bonus at the end of November, so in an effort to ease anxiety about running out of time/money. I am starting to deal scout now. If an item is too good of a deal to pass up for someone on our list, I will purchase it (provided we have the extra funds at that time).
The only eating out we plan to do for the rest of the month is our weekly "Taco Tuesday" date with our friends and their kids. $1 taco night at our local Mexican restaurant- we usually get out of there for under $20 including the tip.
Also, now that H has received his correct paycheck from his new job (first check with his added salaries figured in PLUS deductions for health/dental), I know what we are working with bi-weekly now. The check amount should be consistent from here on out. This was a major cause of anxiety for me with his job transition. After 15 years of knowing what your check was every week, waiting to properly budget on his new salary was killing me. Now I can go through the rest of the year, make adjustments as needed, and finally ease my brain.

DS1's summer baseball season ended today. I am sad to see it over, but very much welcoming a brief hiatus from games/practices/washing uniforms. He is signed up for fall baseball and soccer but neither starts until the week after Labor Day. TheOtherMe that's fantastic news about DN3 (and DS1 too!)! You'll probably think I'm crazy. I went through my side of our medical chest last night. I found the anti-inflammatory pills I took for the first 10 days of my toe incident, and started taking them again. We leave on Friday and my foot was still nowhere near normal, 5.5 weeks later.
I ALSO found the (unopened) "Egyptian Miracle Cream" that DS2's GF gave me for Christmas (apparently it's big in the UK.) I decided I need a miracle, and had nothing to lose. I'm sure you can see where this is going LOL.
MY FOOT IS SO MUCH BETTER!!! Please don't ask me to explain, I have no clue!
So I will DEFINITELY be continuing BOTH the anti-inflammatory pills (which didn't seem to work at first) AND the "Egyptian Miracle Cream"!
It sounds crazy, I know! But I was finally able to try on my new hiking shoes today! I'm not sure that I'll wear/take them, but I hadn't even been able to try them on! (My new hiking shoes are the exact same pair of Merrells as my old ones, but my old ones are 6YO and very worn.)
I am glad to hear your foot is feeling better but I am also curious on whether it was one thing or the other that helped (or the combo of both) haha. The world may never know.

We spent more than I would have liked this past week, but it is what it is.
It can best be summed up as "a failure to plan, is a plan for failure." We just had too many days of I didn't get this in the crockpot or let's grab lunch at this baseball tournament with the other parents... All money we had, but I would have rather not spent.
Next week is a new week and I am motivated to finish out July without spending another penny!

I always love when we share how we tackle our debt! We can still learn new tricks, even if we've been around "here" forever.

Hey all! It's been a long time. Last year I moved from the Savings thread to WIR to focus on paying off some bills, and with my last payment to DH's student loan scheduled for Friday, I am ready to jump back into saving! So, 1. Hi! 2. How much do you all keep in your emergency fund? Do you focus on a set amount? $1k? $5k? $10k? Or do you base it off living expenses (most things I've read say either three and six months). I was planning to focus on getting my emergency fund to $15k - which is right in between three months of expenses and three months of paychecks/four months of expenses. Thoughts? I really don't want a bunch of money earning less than 1%, so I was going to go for $15k and then adjust retirement/529s/IRAs as necessary. Our goal is to get 6 months of living expenses in ours. We aren't even close but we are baby steps closer every month.

We have the option to go in an "refi" this one to lower the payment back down to what it was originally (reduces it $90 a month). I am debating if I want to do this or just leave it and throw that extra $90 to the balance each payment. I need to see how our budget plays out with H's new job/salary before I will have a better idea on feasibility. Regardless, celebrating this loan's decrease!

Plan/Goals for this week:
Monday- Will pay school registration fees for DS1, budgeted expense Tuesday- Going to a concert with H (I gave him the tickets for our anniversary last month). We will eat dinner out. Wednesday- No spend, unless we need milk/bread/filler items from store Thursday- No spend Friday- No spend Saturday- Baseball tournament, $5 gate fee per person for the weekend (Hoping they dont charge for my 3year old because, that's dumb). They have a no cooler policy but the coach told us people "sneak" them in with waters all the time. I plan to throw some waters and ice in a small lunchbox cooler and taking it with us. I will also pack snacks. Sunday- Baseball tournament. Should be no spend.

We survived our yard sale on the surface of the sun. I think the heat hurt us a bit, but I made about $70 and came home with much less than I left with so, I guess it's a win. I listed a lot of baby items on FB and have had some bites, so hopefully I can unload all of it this week for some more $$/more space in the garage.

H received his first paycheck at his new job today, which means.... we survived the job transition (and the weeks of no pay) without touching our savings!!!! I will pat myself on the back for figuring out how to make it work and for pulling it off.... I will also be rewarding myself with a milkshake later just because!

We sold H’s old truck tonight- cash! The buyer offered $1000 less than we were asking, but it’s still $1200ish more than we owe on it so I’ll call that a win! H is going to the bank to pay it off tomorrow, so I hope to have an update on my Race 2, which is our two vehicles combined in one loan. 🎉 After H called the bank, the loan officer told him the payoff amount he was quoted was not correct. Instead of owing $4200 on it, he only owed $3585! So he profited $2000 on the sale! Yay for an error in our favor!
