I picked up takeout this afternoon - 2 sushi rolls for lunch, and some Chinese food to have for dinner/leftovers. woof, did prices go up. I remembered the last time I stopped in for a quick sushi lunch that the rolls had gone up noticeably, so I grabbed a takeout menu that day, maybe a couple months back? anyway, here's a comparison between today's pricing and the previous menu I have. order old price new price6pc eel/cuke 8.45 116pc spicy yellowtail 7.45 10edamame appetizer 6.50 9lg rice noodles w/veggies 10.45 13spicy green beans 11.45 14
I had an Asian pear martini while I waited for the order I placed when I walked in, and today's total was $75. I mean, the food is fantastic quality, but wow. I know I don't eat out very much since COVID and everything, but has everything gone up that much? yikes. at least I've got leftovers to take me through the weekend here, mixed in with some home cooking.

I take gabapentin. It works on my pain, but makes me lose my balance. I was coming home from swimming with a very heavy backpack and did a faceplant on the street. (physics) Five people called the police. An officer helped me up, took my arm and asked me to sit in the cruiser to warm up. "I'm not sitting anywhere! My computer guy is coming!" Madame, we're calling the paramedics'. " I don't need the paramedics! (It's just a flesh wound.) Everything above the neck bleeds profusely. Next thing you know, the paramedics come, and are hovering around me. "you need to go to the hospital You may have a concussion." 'From landing on my FACE? I didn't hit my head!" "You need to go to the hospital! "I need to go home!" "Can you just lie down in the ambulance so we can take your blood pressure?' I wasn't born yesterday. They're taking me away, where a well-meaning social worker will look for a bed in a nursing home, where I'll shuffle around with a walker in a gown and slippers, while a nice volunteer plays "She'll be comin round the mountain" during recreation hour. No, thank you. "I'm signing out against medical advice! I know my rights!' They were pissed, and handed me the paperwork. The cop asked me for Simon's number." "You can't spend the night alone, as you may have a concussion". They let me go. As soon as I came home, I called Simon. "The cops will call you. Agree to everything, but don't come. I'm fine." I AM fine but my face looks like it was run over by a snowplow. I hope I heal by Christmas, but I don't think so. hugs. I've got stories like this from my Nana. she'd wipe out but catch herself, yet still manage to whack something on the way to a soft landing. so she's physically fine, but looked like a legitimate abuse victim from the bruising. glad you're on the mend, and happy to hear your internet is back online. ETA: I forgot to mention - she took blood thinners almost all of *my* life after having quadruple bypass surgery when I was 5 or 6 yo. not sure which one(s) she was on the last few years of her life as I'd moved out on my own.

this isn't a long-term thing. I'm expecting to spend little and get cheap quality for this purchase. but thanks!

Chiver - Old Navy has swimsuits on clearance online right now. thanks, I'll check that out when I get home. that's about the price point where I want to be with this purchase.

Walked out to a used condom and an empty miniature next to my rental car this morning. For cub scouts, the kids had to do a volunteer project. Super hard to find things that 10 year olds could do. So, we cleaned up a dog park. One kid found a pair of women's undies near some beverage cans. I wasn't there. DH took a picture, which we still have. in a dog park?? I get that the pea gravel is easy on the feet and somewhat fluid in a bulk movement like a waterbed or fluffy sand would be, but ick.

has anyone ever ordered from SHEIN? I need some new swimsuits, and a few friends have pointed me here. it just feels like it's another zulily or similar. cheap stuff, coming from China It's cheap and they steal designs from small independent designers. ugh, gross. well, now I know, and unless something absolutely wows me*, it's all going back. and I won't order again. *I'm not in a good head space, with a really shitty body image at the moment. if something blows me away from this order, I'm keeping it for the ego boost I need rn.

has anyone ever ordered from SHEIN? I need some new swimsuits, and a few friends have pointed me here. it just feels like it's another zulily or similar. cheap stuff, coming from China I live on a river and own a hot tub. I go through a lot of swimsuits, so I don't spend much on them. Kohls had a really good sale on swimsuits at the end of the season. I ordered 6 new bottoms for around $5 or $6 each. The quality was not high end, but good for the price. Check the clearance tab and see what is in your size. For me, it was easy to return what didn't fit. I live at the beach, and travel to warm places for music festivals often. I should have retired the couple of suits I have left, a long time ago. it took a particularly obnoxious episode of having to hold my top up on a cruise excursion a couple years ago to get me to retire that basic black bandeau tankini top. I actually left it in the trash in my cabin while packing up to head home. I had so many suits, bought around the same time, that it wasn't all that noticeable that they were 10+ years old, until the elastics gave out. partly time, partly me gaining weight. but I have no idea what size I need or want right now. all of my suits were the same bandeau top tankini in various colors/patterns from the Mossimo line at Target. how long has that one been gone? lol... you say Kohl's, are you shopping online? b/c the clearance racks in the stores make me twitchy for how overwhelming it all is. all I know is that I need at least one suit for next month and then a cruise and week in FL in Apr/May (I will have laundry available). I'm okay with cheaper quality, as long as the price is appropriate. I'll be one of those New Year's Resolution folks in 2024, but I won't be this size forever. 2023 went sideways with a pair of pup surgeries and work not respecting the blocks in my calendar and double booking the midday. I'm reasserting my boundaries in the new year, I've gotten better about it since making the decision to take Wednesdays off through the EOY so I don't give back time. sorry for the novella there.

Took a while to arrive and was very cheaply made. I've also found that many Chinese companies make clothing based on Asian bodies (which makes sense!) but that doesn't work out so well for Western women. I'm 5'6" and wear a 6-8 depending on the cut and ordered extra large leggings and could barely get them over my thighs. So my take is that Shein is great for teen girls. see, this is what I thought of the site after hearing from other folks. but the lady that sent me a bunch of cute suits last night that got me to look here is also a size 16 like I am. and she's always got cute suits. she said the return policy is pretty solid, so I figured I'd give it a shot this time. I ordered 9 suits (a few in 2 different sizes) for ~$120. I expect to be returning at least half of them, so we'll see how it goes!

No I'm not entitled to a break or even a lunch hour in Nebraska so she can tell me I'm not allowed to sit down.Yes her and the director can tell any hiring manager they don't feel I'm promotion material and that's that even if I meet all the job requirements for a role. That was the most asinine thing I've ever heard. So if you have a crappy manager you're career is over. It's some consolation that NONE of my coworkers agree with her and on top of all the other crap is damn near starting a riot We'll see what happens with the three I applied for then go from there. Cause I'm done being the lab scapegoat. Struggling with my depression. This is not where I thought I would be at 40. I feel like something is wrong with me. not that I didn't believe you, but I actually looked it up. for anyone else that's interested - NB DOL link - pdf downloadthat's completely insane to me that you aren't required to be allowed a break. as far as the rest, you've been applying to places. so you already know this one is toxic. it may be in different ways than previous places, but it's still toxic. there's also nothing that says you have to list her as a reference anywhere, too. it sounds like you have a lot of other solid options for that here. big hugs coming your way.

I just woke up on the couch a little while ago, to a recap of last night's The Voice episode. totally not shocking, considering the mood I was in after closing my laptop. my body handles big stress by knocking me out, always has.
hugs to those that need them tonight. I have some comments on things (looking at you, DQ, and the DOL) but I'm on my phone for the night with a tiny keyboard. I'll say more in the am. I need to log in for a few min to push a quality record thru some keystrokes with a teammate in Ireland.

I definitely just called my mother to rant about that Indian woman coworker. she's been on all my calls all day, talking over people, arguing with anyone that doesn't provide the answers she wants, and has answered (incorrectly) questions addressed to me in email chains. just please go away, so my blood pressure can return to normal? that big huge deviation from last week is messy, b/c of timing related to corporate mergers. I'm hoping to not be too specific, and ask that anyone that may figure it all out keep it to themselves. TIA! the contract manufacturing (CMO) site was divested from Company A on X date. a week later, the rest of Company A was purchased by my current employer. I started at current employer 2wks after that. Indian Woman (IW) came along from Company A. so, records are all over the map as to who owns official copies of manufacturing and quality records based on timing. this particular issue happened before X date, and IW suggested that the team look up the records on the original installation of the problem equipment. I chimed in to say that any records we would still have on that wouldn't be recorded as a CMO change control b/c at that time, the site was still part of Company A.....whose quality system we're still using. she argued with me about the dates until I said "excuse me, site was divested on X, and I started at current employer 3wks later. Yes, I'm absolutely sure of these dates, feel free to look that up." you could have heard a pin drop on the call. this morning, she sends me a "reminder" to approve something that had come in about a half hour before....wiping out the alert I'd set up for the incoming request from a different site, as hers was the most recent in that thread. last week, I yelled at my phone - would you let the woman answer your damn question?! this morning, I actually sent a response that included "Please allow me to sort through my inbox for requests, additional messages and reminders for things that literally just came in do nothing except clog up the works and slow me down." do I expect anything to change? not really. I just wish she'd fucking go away and not bother me, though. thanks for listening to my rant. I'm going to go finish up the couple of things I have to get done today, and close this laptop down til Tuesday Thursday morning. ETA: jeez....I'm definitely done for today.

Started the day with a trip to dentist. One small cavity. Went to put in my PTO for next year and was told to wait until the new year. I can't put in for anything until Jan either. kind of an issue when I'm taking a full week at the end of Jan. good thing the team already knows that. good luck to you!

Yesterday I did some christmas shopping with DD. Bath and Body Works had an amazing sale, $4.95 for all their "body care products" like body creme, lotion, body wash, body spray. I spent like $130. Gifts for my coworkers are taken care of. ETA: Included in that is DD's friends, she paid me back the $20. I also bought some body wash for DH. He likes the "beachy" smelling ones for after manual labor. Damn you! Now I'm going to that site! same. they actually have my cucumber melon body spray available online. hmm.....

I do not enjoy this time of year at all. It is way too hectic for me. Just the work/school uptick is bad enough without tossing Christmas in there. I have to burn 4 days of vacation and can't really afford to with everything going on here, but screw it. I'm taking tomorrow off and I'm not even going to try to get anything done at home during that time. I'm going into full on slug mode for the day. Maybe a day on the couch with a frozen pizza and a bottle of Nyquil will help me shake this cold. It's mostly gone, but I'm still deaf. I fully approve of this decision. I hope the day of rest helps you feel better. I've got two more Wednesdays off before the holiday shutdown. I hope tomorrow helps adjust my attitude, because I'd have already needed bail this morning if I was in the office.

Back from the grocery store. It wasn’t too bad of a trip, but it was still a trip out for celery. There will be another when I figure out what I need to take to the potluck for an appetizer. I’m just tempted to go to the local Thai place and get 6 orders of chicken satay to go. I like the prawn rolls better, but those are best eaten on delivery. unless you've got something you absolutely want to cook and bring,go the takeout route. I did that for Saturday's party, and. it was way easier than schlepping a hot dish an hour away from home and having to reheat. take the opportunity to find some oddball appetizer you like and make that one option. one of the pizzas I brought is a garlicky white pizza that is topped with a fully dressed chicken Caesar salad. the handful of times I've shown up to this house with that, it's one of the first things wiped out.

you're out in western MA, I think? I don't remember seeing reports of snow. wow! today's monsoon rain helped dissolve what was left of the ~2" of snow I got last week. guess I'll watch the news to see updates....I didn't field any texts from my sister to bitch about snow, though. lol... enjoy your week here. it's too bad us Massholes can't properly welcome you like we were able to welcome andi. next time! Yes, I am in western Mass. The surprise snowstorm was in the DMV on my way to BWI. In Western Mass it has been flooding which is more scary to me. I'll be back mid January too, and hopefully during baseball season. As an Orioles fan I have to hate the Red Sox, but Fenway Park needs to be seen. ah, cheers. sorry you had snow! haha, I totally get the Sox hate. I loved Camden Yards when I was able to take in a game when I was in Baltimore. luckily for me it happened to be a Sox weekend. sad that your guys won, though. definitely remind us all when you're coming back, maybe we can all meet you wherever you are.

So glad you are back home. Now take care of you and get well. That is an order from NNP. Yes, ma'am! 👍 (I know you have fire and freezer access!) 😉😁 Today, Dr suggested I go to ER for full medical work up. Said she thinks I was/am dehydrated. I told her, I'm doing better now. 😊 Heard from DD2 today. Like nothing happened.well, of course! because you had gone home before they got there. out of sight, out of mind. I'm sorry, she's turned into someone really shitty. you don't deserve the shit you put up with. I hope you can stick to the boundaries you've started to set lately. it's really going to be great for your own mental health to separate yourself from them. I know you want to see your grandkids, but if they are being raised in that house, they will eventually come to see you as the 'free help' that their parents already do. and that's child abuse IMHO.

I am spent. Up at 2am to drive to the airport in a surprise snow storm. 8 hours between driving and flying (including deicing the wings), plus another 4 hours of work. I'm done. I do appreciate the MA state policeman who nabbed me for doing 81 in a 65, I was the last in the line making me an easy target, but once he knew where I was headed and was in a rental he let me go with a warning. So I guess I have a reason to❤️ MA. I will be here until Thursday morning. Working on site for 12 hours for the next 2 days. On the subject of cars, you can't always get what you want but you get what you need. you're out in western MA, I think? I had a conversation about cars last week with my coworker. I was telling him about all the problems the T’s had with people trying to steal their cars. Coworker said people only buy those kinds of cars to impress other people anyway. He thinks any time somebody spends money on nice things, it’s to try to impress somebody else, and it really aggravates me. I like nice cars myself. To me, there’s a little more to it than just getting from point A to point B. But I also learned to be practical. I love the idea of retiring ASAP more than I love cars. So I still drive my old Honda. When Mister bought his 2016 Honda, I got new car fever sooooo bad. But I resisted temptation and kept driving my old Honda. I bought her new and she and I have been together for 20 years now. I will be sad when I have to replace her. Idk if I will be practical again or buy something I really, really want. I would like have at least one car that I really, really want, during my lifetime, whether it’s luxury or a sports car. I already have an impractical vehicle, my Jeep Wrangler. I really like it, but it burns a lot of gas, it’s tiny, and wouldn’t be very comfortable driving on a road trip. I like Audi’s but I doubt I’ll ever buy one. My dream car use to be a 700 series BMW, I doubt I’ll ever buy a BMW either. If I was willing to constantly spend a bunch of money on maintenance and repairs, like those cars tend to require, I’d rather buy a ‘68 Camaro instead. If I needed a car and my money was funny, I’d have to just get over myself and look for something reliable, even if that meant boring. Reliable means I can count on having transportation to chase money, so that maybe I can upgrade my car at some point, when I can afford to. I didn’t really like my Honda when I first bought it, but she grew on me. YM math says I couldn’t afford it when I bought it, but since that was already done when my financial shit hit the fan and I was close to paying it off, choosing to struggle to make the payments to keep it, turned out to be a good decision. I can say that now, in hindsight, because it has still been a reliable car with very few issues besides normal wear and tear, during all the years since. If I’d gotten rid of it back then, to get rid of the car payment, who knows what kind of car problems I would’ve had between then and now. bold for emphasis here.

it didn't, but I found it by group name. thanks! my ancestors came to Maritime Canada before the migration, but stayed put in NB. I've got genealogical research done by a cousin (who's now a newspaper editor, this was his college thesis) that includes many branches besides ours off the tree that came from the original guy that came from France in the 1600s. does your DH's fam have all that historical stuff from the migration? this stuff fascinates me, but I haven't needed to find any more info b/c my cousin basically handed it to the rest of us. lol... ETA - this was in response to soupandstew

I'm on a Cajun and Creole recipe FB page and I love it because those folks keep it real (and tasty!). They say things like "add a cup of the trinity", "throw a handful of salt meat in the pot", and "cook them beans for about another 4 hours 'til they break down". And the fight over tomatoes or no tomatoes in gumbo is real, believe me. can you share the link? I love the flavors of that style of cooking, and can't really fully indulge myself when I'm in NOLA. the seafood would literally kill me. I'd love to have access to well-loved recipes to make in my own kitchen. an aside - so much of Cajun cooking is based on Acadian cooking - where the Cajuns originated. I'm Acadian one rainy day I was in town before a cruise, a group of us went to the Southern Food and Beverage Museum (at the top of the Riverwalk downtown NOLA) and I was taking pics to send back to my dad. the first room in chronological order was the staple Acadian recipes they brought with them, including the chicken and dumplings soup I make all winter. it was fantastic to see the exhibits!

I really feel for this woman, but I have to compartmentalize that and look at the politics of this and the politics don't seem to make any sense. I am a bit of a jumble, but I can't really make any sense out of it. First this isn't even a base issue, no one seems to wants this. Forcing the carrying of nonviable fetuses seems to be a fringe stance even on the right, like less than 10% of all people. So what is the win here? Second I seem to recall that Tx is fighting a case right now and using the defense that the law is clear and doctors aren't performing legal abortions in emergency cases. Blaming the doctors. This escalation of this case to the TX SC would undermine that defense, because it validates the doctors' stance. BTW, I am a Dem, so I am trying to understand the other side, which right now seems self destructive to me. This. Most antiabortion people I know don't want a woman to carry a fetus that will die, and may actively harm the woman. I don't get it. I know you said most, so this isn't a challenge so much as just pointing out that we actually have one here on this board. I'm actually shocked she hasn't chimed in here yet.

I picked up a package of three smaller BSCB this weekend. yesterday, I sliced cutlets with two of them to make chicken piccata and bowtie pasta. there's one serving left, likely for lunch tomorrow or another day. tonight, I'm going to slice the last one into a pair of cutlets and saute them. I'll chop and toss a big green salad. I've been snacking instead of eating an actual meal today, and I don't want anything heavy. the rest of the week? who knows yet. ETA - scratch sauteing the last BSCB. I'll be heating up a frozen chicken patty in a few minutes, instead. salad is still on, though. I'm clearing freezer space here. yeah, it's like that. lol...

Really? I think I'd rather stick to drinking Pedialyte and I hate that stuff. Mobile IV rehydration. Interesting. Best solution for a hangover too. I just always guzzled bottles of water. smart man right here....although, I prefer orange most of the time. I keep a couple tiny bottles on a door shelf in my fridge, for when my blood sugar crashes after I forget to eat most of the day. it also works well for a hangover, paired with a couple Advil.

My two useful later in life discoveries have been the importance of buying good quality shoes if you walk or stand a lot at work, and welding sleeves for gardening with wicked thorny bushes like wild blackberries. I used to have a lot of foot problems from standing/walking a lot at work - heel spurs, mostly. Then I bought a pair of ECCO shoes based on a recommendation from a travel book for good shoes for traveling (they recommended ECCOS and Merrills). They’re more expensive than my cheap ass wanted to spend, but not only were they comfortable for traveling, all my foot problems went away. The welding sleeves have Kevlar threads and keep my arms from getting all scratched up. I kept having allergic reactions to the blackberry scratches, so the sleeves have been amazing. def this!! I live in flip flops, even in the house. when I moved to this current house and discovered I had a perfect standing height "desk" in my kitchen peninsula, I found myself standing most of the day, every day. well, my beloved $25 Tevas are squishy, but not quite that squishy. I splurged on a pair of $70 Oofos slides and let me tell you, these things are MAGICAL. I picked the slides so I could wear socks in the winter. I just bought a new pair in a bright color because they were cheaper. these don't leave the house, why would I care what color they are? lol...
