whoo........ I def just hung up on my sister and she's called back with a vm that I'm leaving til the am. same bullshit as the last time around, and she was all well and good when I was laughing at her story that she HAD TO TELL! until I challenged her opinion on another issue. and then she got combative, and I'm all set. I'll listen to the vm in the am and decide when/how/whether I want to respond. this was actually the first time since I hung up on her that I've actually answered the call. I think I'm all set here. ETA: as I think about this more, I'm angry now, and gonna sign off stuff tonight. but I'm definitely going to be changing some settings coming up. and, apologies in advance for anything I'm gonna whine about this week on this particular topic. the gist - DSis - blah blah blah me - what are you telling me? DSis - why do you interrupt me? you tell me I'm stupid because I don't agree with XYZ, and blah blah blah. hey maybe actually listen to the questions I ask? try something new, you've never done that before. welcome to your 40s, people expect you to adult. adulting means that if you don't know the context of the question, you excuse yourself to find out more about it. you don't blather on about whatever you think the question was. whatever, I'm over it. I'm not answering her calls for awhile, if there are any in the near future. I'll listen to the vm in a day or so, which I'm sure is gonna be some arugmentative thing about me not listening. I'm done, I don't care anymore. this woman has whined about nobody listens to her since we were children, and she took a fucking hour to explain something that should have taken 5min. and if anyone interrupted her?? the clock started over. fuck this, I'm all set. and they wonder why I moved an hour away, almost 10 years ago.

Olive oil has gone up due to poor harvests creating a shortage. that actually makes more sense, thank you. I hadn't heard about that.

I was planning to pick up a bottle of olive oil yesterday at Walmart, since I hadn't realized I was almost completely out the last time there was a sale anywhere else. the 50oz bottle used to be $13 or $14 there, and it was $22 yesterday. so no, I didn't get any olive oil yesterday, and will be waiting patiently for a sale soon.

same!! so what you missed this morning, before the jury came in, the defense got up to further object to photos not being allowed in* last week for the purpose of impeaching the testimony of the one lady EMT who happens to be very good friends with the daughter of the homeowner. ICYMI - her answer to the prosecution when asked if she knew C was to say that "there was a girl named CA in my class, sure" and the defense came up with a stack of FB pics over the years, of the EMT and CA all buddy buddy. well, this am, defense showed up with another stack of pics that had been sent in from various people, showing the EMT and CA together as recently as a baby shower during COVID and all buddy buddy. really? that's an acquaintance? yikes. oh, and CA is also on the witness list.....so the defense wanted to make clear that this was coming up again, and could we have a side hearing about it today? *the reason the photos weren't allowed was called a discovery violation by the judge. defense argued that the sole purpose of the photos was for impeachment of witness testimony and doesn't fall under the rules of discovery like other facts pertinent to the actual crime. swamp - thoughts? also, sorry/TIA.....I'm probably gonna tag you a few more times before all of this is over. I was reading the morning recaps during the MANY sidebars during Goode's testimony. I of course have my own biases about this trial, but those "Sure" answers just sounded (and looked) like a big "eff you, whatever you say" type of response while trying not to incriminate himself. I liked how the defense kept pointing out that Goode knew and had relations with the homeowner and their family. Oh, and that address was incorrect on the face page of the report! Also how was Goode able to reach someone who was there within 10 minutes to take over the call center for him at 6AM in the morning on the weekend so that he could investigate.? And the homeowner never came out while there was a firetruck, 3 police cars, and one ambulance (and then another for KR) was in front of the house. With all their lights going. Plus 2 unmarked detective vehicles - you know he knew they were there. And neither did anyone else on the street. I have lived in a major US city known for crime and the in rural areas and have never seen people not be nosy! I also can not believe that any of the evidence from the scene is admissible due to how it was collected. THANK YOU for seeing this bullshit for exactly what it is! did you catch the voir dire with Lank, after the jury was dismissed for the day? I cannot wait for the defense to have the opportunity to absolutely shred the civilian witnesses that are the McAlberts.

so, I just PM'd a friend who posted that he's got an extra ticket to see Springsteen in Barcelona on 6/20, if anyone was interested. whoooo I said if I could line up pup care, I was in. #bucketlist I've never seen Springsteen, and I've never been to Barcelona. I also have no idea what the price tag is, but I kind of don't care. so, Dad left a note for Mom and she's gonna call me tomorrow (I hope?) 6/20 is when we lost Nana, Mom's mom. he and I had a chat just now, and I'm pretty sure that my crying had him close. but some of the shit that my mother has come up with in the past 5y or so has been unreal, and way different from the house I grew up in. stuff like, after my grandfather passed, Nana did nothing all day and let my uncles run the house. (Mom was the youngest kid) and it has just gone on from there. I've actually hung up on her when she's gone off on tangents like this. so I'm not really sure how she's going to handle the 20y milestone, we lost Nana in 2004. all I know is that I want to pay for Nana's years on the headstone, and to be anywhere but here on 6/20 this year. so keep your fingers crossed for me that this all lines up, please.....

azucena do they have a Facebook page? Maybe you could find someone that way? Or maybe chiver78 would have suggestions on finding a cruise roommate? if the event is worth its salt, there is a FB page, an IG page (or whatever that's called) and a bunch of other social media outlets dedicated to it. I've never heard of the Jen or the company listed on the website, so I'm not much help there. but def look into the social media outlets for the trip. you're booking with like-minded folks, so you're going to find friends onboard. even if you still book solo in a cubby on the bottom deck to preserve funds and have personal space, you'll absolutely have a good time outside of the cabin.

checking back in, as the season has landed where I'll be able to put a table out on the regular with some of the things I've tried to unload via pay sale sites. I'm just over it and want it all gone. I unloaded a ton of stuff last summer this way, this road is much more heavily travelled than I realized when I bought the place. this weekend was solid, though. a friend came by to mow my new sod lawn with her mower when mine wouldn't start. she also took the rolls of wire fencing and stakes I'd picked up last year when I thought I was seeding. clearly with the sod, I'm all set with that. she took it with her and had a taker already. I wasn't looking for $ as I'd picked it up via a Buy Nothing page, I just wanted it gone. that lawnmower is going up on the Buy Nothing page as a project, come take it. it hasn't been started in a couple years, at least, so there's probably some shit that needs tinkering. I'd prefer the shed space. oh, and I have a taker for the huge Casio keyboard I've been bringing around since college. I'd call my piano playing something akin to a henpeck typewriter style, the lessons never clicked. but if someone else can benefit? come take it!

I just saw Mrs. T and remembered that she told me last week when she is planning to move out. CRAP! I sure am going to miss her. Is Mr. T moving too or are they divorcing? FWIW, I’ve been out of the loop as I needed a break from the boards. I also missed a week while I was travelling, but I did see a post somewhere that htey are divorcing.

thanks for asking about that. it will be fine. there's 2 or 3 payments left, and I carried over enough last month to eat $75 in interest (I told y'all this card has a stupid rate if you carry a balance. but.......airline points for everything I do?) and after my payment clears next week, anything else I spend on the regular is at either 2.9 or 3.99% interest til next January if I do need to carry over again. I'd have paid it off per usual, but the landscapers got me in early for the sod part of the project and they don't take CC. so I ate some interest in favor of not wiping out the savings account, just in case.
if there's something else I ever think I'm gonna put on another Easy Pay sort of installment, I'll throw it on the Amex that's clear about how it's all tracked. I almost had a stroke when I saw my statement balance last week on the airline card. it still included the total EP balance (almost $2400) instead of even just what was still outstanding on that. lesson learned, I'll never use that card again for any installment plans. woof.

"case in chief" being the direct defense? yes, that was my understanding of how the Rule 14 (in MA, anyway) was explained by defense in the further objection this morning. this particular EMT lied her ass off her whole testimony, from photos I've actually seen myself. these townie that think they are untouchable still had wide-open public FB pages as recently as a year ago.
oh, and FWIW, the defense had asked the judge to recuse herself and she declined. there's proof of a Venmo payment to her and her DH for their Cape summer cottage, from one of the kids in that EMT's friend circle in the last couple of years. it's all such a twisted townie story, and having spent grade school as an outsider, I can't wait to see it all come crashing down on the cool kids. b/c this lady did not kill her bf.

Pulled into Seward this morning and are docked across from Norwegian Jewel. Much, much bigger than us. We are here for 2 days. We are going to an aquarium this morning, but not until 11. Once again, I saw the very early morning hours and didn’t get any decent sleep until after 3 am. This is not normal for me, so it is driving me nuts. that's the class I sail these days. we're almost always on the Pearl, but the next one is coming up on the Gem. ironically, the Pearl was actually in Boston yesterday, I heard on the news. the mayor christened the cruise season from here by breaking a bottle of bubbly on her.

ah, rainy Monday. at least it's warm enough to have all the windows open and the heat off. the pups have both curled up to nap while I work. I have that trial on streaming for background noise, and there's gonna be a spicy argument later today about one of the first responders having perjured herself on the stand. daisylu - I hope you can tune in today.

woo hoo! there's enough chopped LB that I don't need to cook the ground beef and kale tonight. I'll happily wash that pan twice to not have to cook any more than just my own dinner over the rest of tonight. lol...

to clarify, it's for the pups. there was a crazy sale and I got this piece for like $4 a couple weeks ago. I just don't want to totally kill it and choke one of them, is really what it is. or, leave it half raw....which I know their systems can handle some stuff raw, but par-cooking allows for bacterial growth and they aren't eating the whole thing in one shot. I think I'm gonna just slice it and throw it in the big pan, like wvu said. I'm already filling the dishwasher tonight with my tacos and black beans 'n rice, so if I can do two things in one pan, that's a win. That makes sense. You could also grind it if you have a grinder. no grinder. the slices look like they are cooking okay. but woof. 🤢 I had to turn on the hood vent and open the window right next to the stove. oh, and I lit a scented candle. this doesn't smell at all appetizing to me. I hope these spoiled pups appreciate much sacrifice here! 🤣😘

We set it for 6 except for New Year's Day and then we wake up anyway. Our bodies have spent too many decades with a 6 am alarm to change. Most days we are actually awake at 5 and often get up then. If I followed my body's natural rhythm without meds, I would go to sleep around 8 or 9, get up at midnight, go back to sleep around 4 and get up at 6 or 7. But the modern world doesn't accommodate our personal body cycles too well. I read a very interesting article several months ago that there was a time that it was normal to sleep about 4 hours, get up for a few hours, and then have a second sleep for about 4 hours. If I remember correctly, it was determined that the shift to more like what we know today occurred with the advent of electricity and/or the industrial age. I am going to hunt around and see if I can find that article. At the time I shared that article with my brother and we both agreed that the concept made perfect sense. I may have read the same article. and, it's also the rhythm that my body has fallen into as well.

I've been to Walmart and back, and there's some boneless chicken thighs currently marinating in a cilantro/tequila lime bath for grilling later today. I may have mixed myself a tequila sunrise while I prepped. next up is cooking for the pups, I'm gonna try my hand at cooking London Broil that was on a ridiculous sale a couple weeks back, that's a treat for their dinner tonight. then there's two big family packs of ground beef and kale. any tips on the LB? I thought I could cook it in the hard anodized deep fry pan I'm going to use for the beef/kale, just to not be dirtying another pan. is that a good idea?

I baked an overnight French toast casserole this morning. It used up some leftover hot dog buns. I'm going to make notes on how I did it as I mixed a few recipes. We did the Sam's Club run yesterday. It's been raining all weekend. Laundry today and making a roast for dinner. I have a tried and true recipe from a college friend, if you find you can't recreate your notes just right. let me know

last night ended up being a bowl of Doritos while I watched all of the sports, and napped. not my finest night. lol...
I'm about to mix up a tequila lime marinade for some boneless chicken thighs. if I can get to re-seasoning the Blackstone, I'll cook it out there later. if not, I can saute indoors. I'm going to also make black beans and rice to go with tacos tonight. I'll have a bunch of leftovers to pick from over the week.

I'm finally having something to eat, while I tune in to the start of today's Sox game. today's been productive so far! in addition to S mowing my lawn with her own mower after mine wouldn't start I was able to weed most of what's starting to come through the mulch beds. some of it wasn't big enough for me to grab and pull down to the roots, so I left it to grow a little more before I yank it. then, mooch texts to let me know that he'd be here by noon to put the outdoor shower online for the season. he brought M, and she made herself busy tending a fire in the fire pit. there was still a pile of the small sticks the landscapers cleaned up as they worked a few weeks ago. she got that pile down to nothing and started adding some of the crap wood (old landscape timbers, pieces of picket fencing, etc) that the guys had stacked on top of the good wood pile to get it out of the way. yay! less for me to have to burn later. I just wish I'd remembered to close the bedroom windows before she started, it smells like a bonfire in here. oops. I'll just leave the windows open to air the house out, until it's too cold. it got cloudy as everyone was heading out, and the temp dropped a good 10-15 degrees. ugh.

I'm also enjoying a cup of coffee while I fart around a little, debating some breakfast as well. I've been to the grocery store and back, and my friend S is coming by at 10 to mow the back lawn. she's also gonna show me how to operate my own mower and maybe I'll do it myself this year (let's be real, probably not...) tomorrow's not supposed to be all that great, weather-wise. so I want to spend as much time outside today as possible once I get out there. I could use a couple more degrees though haha. but I'm intending to weed the stuff that's coming up under the mulch beds, and use the leaf blower on the areas that the guys missed as they were cleaning up the sod work.

alright, I'm not current right now, and I'm sorry. but I need to air this rant rn. I closed all apps on my phone so I could enjoy a quiet dinner, maybe a quiet night. my phone still had some random audio playing, with no apps active. I've rebooted the damn thing 4 times already, and the audio continues even through the reboots. WTF?? that alone is going to bring me to an AT&T store tomorrow to unload this fucking thing. hard pass on all of it, and I'm about to rejoin my parents with their flip phones.

I've been exploring my local Aldi again recently. are these flatbreads in a fridge case or the bread aisle? I've had mixed feelings about the various flatbreads I've bought over the years, but I'd be up for giving these a whirl. I bought some tri-color cheese tortellini for about half what I'd have paid for Buitoni at even the cheapest store otherwise, and it was tasty. tonight I decided I'm making chicken piccata with the last BSCB hanging out in the fridge. I sniffed it, and it was fine, so I'll start prepping everything else in a few min. if I die tonight, someone tell the authorities to check the leftovers lol....

Had an awesome lunch with a couple peeps from my last group. One left a few months after I did, and the other just gave her notice last week-she has an excellent new job lined up. Sounds like it’s just in time too; the budget cuts have hit super hard and it sounds like most of my remaining former coworkers have been warned to start looking for new jobs Unclear whether the group will continue to exist. Always fun to marvel at the sheer toxicity of that place…. The one who left over a year ago just got an email yesterday from our former supervisor asking if she‘d like to meet up for lunch and discuss the future of the group. We’re betting he’s going to try to hire her back and she is under strict orders to meet up for lunch or at least on Teams to spill the tea afterwards. My first job, the lab of 12 people was down to 1 in about 6 months. I was the second to exit, and once the rest realized that the PI had fudged my predecessor’s data that I inadvertently mentioned, the gig was up. No one wanted to be tainted by that brush.same as my expedited exit from the train wreck place I ultimately called the FDA on. they had asked me to falsify a controlled document. that's way beyond a hard pass.

we were able to escape to the shore for a quick walkabout over lunch, and I've moved the party outside for the sunny afternoon to crank out some online refresher training while I listen to the court case. ETA: actually, I have a question. not sure if this is something that varies by state, but swamp - can a judge insist on not stating the reason for an objection when one comes up? just that she'll either sustain or overrule, and if it's not immediately clear as to why the objection was raised, that the discussion will be a sidebar? this case I'm watching, this judge has a sidebar like every 5th question. she's also cleared the jury a couple times already just today alone for further discussion. thanks!

On a positive note about mental loads...we are 5 weeks into home chef meal prep deliveries. Only one recipe has been so-so. The rest have been great. 4 servings usually stretches to 5 or 6. Ordering 3-4 per week and supplementing the rest of our meals from freezer, salad, pizza, etc. Intro deal was well priced, ongoing is a bit spendy but man is helping me. I do can shop less, waste less, eat better and dd11 has taken to cooking a couple nights a week without being asked or even asking many questions. Tonight she and I were at hair appt where she got blonde ombre put in as a big middle finger to leaving private school dress code in our dust. Came home at 530 and DH had cooked a meal from it without prompting. They are also weighing in on future orders so that's becoming not my problem too. When I cook them, it's so easy bc literally everything except salt, pepper and oil is included. Most are 20 min prep. Def a privileged option but so, so helpful for me. We’re on week 2 of dinnerly after a few months of blue apron. Generally dinnerly has been less expensive esp after initial BA deal expired, but less complete (still have five small garlic cloves and a bunch of spices from BA on the counter) which I think is a fair tradeoff. The protein portions are smaller though and the steaks last week weren’t great quality. But, the range of recipes offered is much better and I like the increased flexibility-BA really wanted us to do 3 recipes a week, no more no less without formally changing the plan, which was annoying sometimes. Dinnerly lets us add and subtract at will. The baked feta pasta wasn’t great (tbf I added way too much seasoning) but the pan fried gnocchi yesterday was delicious. Occasionally we are successful in getting DS to eat a vegetable. I will put home chef on the list for after we‘re bored with dinnerly remind me when you're ready to switch. I regularly get coupon codes for home chef in my online orders elsewhere. I'll try to remember not to recycle them, and can share.

wvu, your posts this week have had me craving black beans and rice. that might be tomorrow night. I've still got one BSCB from an open package, I can shred and douse in taco seasonings and have solid leftovers for the weekend. hmm....
