...:::And funny, last year when we moved and two years before that, she had the same excuse. We always seemed to be moving when she had her period (I told her that too this morning). Coincidence?:::...
Not if you always move at the end of the month. Modern birth control makes periods very regular.
If we weren't saving for retirement, it would all be poured in to the house right now with maybe a little scooter for me for my 3 mile commute to work. House: Knock down two walls Re-do all electrical Re-do kitchen Paint interior New Carpets Add bathroom to basement Turn basement into master bedroom Put hot tub in utility room
Mind you, I'm the only one saving for retirement right now, and its no where near the levels of other folks here, so all these things would still take a few years, but a few less years than they're scheduled to take now.

Though I should add, having your period does not prevent you from doing anything, unless you're one of the few people who it physically incapacitates (my childhood BFF had this problem. Since her kidney transplant, its been much better.)
And I'm like Swamp. I do start getting ready 30-45 minutes before we leave the house, though, because DH won't start getting ready until 10 minutes before we leave (that's all the time it takes him) forgetting that the dogs have to be taken out, stuff may need to be gathered, he won't remember where his shoes are and I'll have to find them, etc. When I leave the house on my own, it only takes me 5-10 minutes, too.

::on a side note, can you teach my wife how to be like that... pretty pretty please:: I'm pretty sure she'd look at my like I'm some kind of alien creature. I mean, I like to look nice, but I don't get off on shopping. I don't spend more than 2 minutes picking out an outfit, I have wash and wear hair, and I don't wear makeup. And I HATE clutter. So it is not a lie... they are woman like that in the world ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Every time I tell her that, she tells me how it could be much worse using some of her friends/cousins as examples (and yes I agree they are 10 times worse as my wife). My DH tries to use this line on me as well regarding his fishing "things" (i.e. lures, rods/reels, etc). I tell him it's still too much regardless if his friends have more if we can't actually afford it or store it all! ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/50_50.gif) Yeah, that's how to win me over - by telling me it could be worse! No thank you!!

If we had no retirement accounts, we'd just be spending all of our income like we are right now, only on a larger scale.
We'd be eating out more, doing more remodeling projects, buying the kids their first car, buying the second set of school pictures (not just the first of the year pictures), etc, etc, etc.......

Oh...if we were eliminating all savings/investing (and I would assume debt paydown too)? I'd definitely get a nice new car. Yeah, that too. I'd have an Audi A-6. I'd also upgrade my jetski. I was actually thinking about the S-5. One of my friends got one and that thing is sweet!

And not to turn this into a thread all about periods, but next time she should just move on to the next pack without taking the inactive pills--no period to worry about, if it really incapacitates her.

Hooray for wash/wear hair and no makeup!!!!
I wake up exactly 35 minutes before I leave the house. Shower, comb wet hair, get dressed in the semi-dark (DH still sleeping for a couple more hours), feed pets, pack lunch (~50% of time), leave house. By the time I get to work, my hair is dry and I put it in a ponytail. ;D
And "I can't pick up boxes when I have my period" is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

with the money if you were not contributing it to retirement? This may come as a surprise to you youngsters but there was life before retirement accounts were invented (about 1982). ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) We invested to become wealthy, we didn't actually think of it as 'retirement'. We had some rental houses (and mortgages) and stocks. Index funds, ETFs, Discount Brokers, had not been invented - so most investing was individual stocks using Full Service brokers.

At 100+ dollars per trade...
I talked to a wise older investor....he calculate, one day, how much more he would have been worth at today's trading costs. It was 6 figures.

If the extra money from the budget couldn't go towards anything responsible...like retirement/investments/savings/etc... it would go towards motorcycles, some new surfboards, a couple new guns & maybe a couple jet skis. And a sailboat would be nice. Mmmmm....

I can on birth control but before, I would be shaking, throwing up, freezing even in warm weather and barely able to walk. My doctor tried to get me on birth control before 18 because my reaction but my mom said no. My doctor had me make a appointment on my 18th birthday. So, I don't believe this woman but for some women her period can be disabling.

A sailboat and a slip to keep her in. That would just about eat up all the money I currently save I think.

Sorry Dark - you'd better believe that old saying about boats - they're a hole in the water into which you pour money.
We had a 27" Catalina years ago before we moved to VA. Got so tired of having to go out on her every weekend and summer vacations. Then there's the painting, varnishing, cleaning the brightwork, washing her down every time you take her out, having her hauled out of the water every fall and put back in the water each spring, scraping the hull and painting it, and on and on and on. It's more work than a house.
