- We had a big wedding. Did everyone hate it and feel obligated to be there and thought I was being a dizty princess?
Oh sweet baby Jesus I hope not ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I can't speak for everyone, but yes I tend to think of weddings as a silly woman (usually, but sometimes the dude wants the big wedding) spending way too much money to play princess for a day. But what if I just wanted to have an excuse to have a really big party with great food, music, tons of booze? So what if I happened to be wearing a white dress...........Does that still make me silly?

::I'm getting 5 showerheads in my shower. Get your imagination started! Most of them look normal - it is the one on the floor that goes straight up you can really think about!::
YOu don't mind if I borrow your shower, do you?

Yes, but you have to come over exactly at 6:00 - and I'm going by the clock in my kitchen, which I set myself.

I'm getting 5 showerheads in my shower. Sounds very "Knott's Landing". Get your imagination started! Most of them look normal - it is the one on the floor that goes straight up you can really think about! Wasteful. You could save a lot of money by springing for a $30 handheld fixture. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I never laughed so hard . . . not even on the couponing thread where people were giving a party with toothpaste or whatever as appetizers. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) But to be serious, I am just me on here. I am not a funnier me or a nicer me or whatever. That's why sometimes I honestly want to tell other posters (thinking about the recent Doxie thread), "You guys are just plain MEAN." Without the context of real life, we honestly don't understand all the intricacies of some relationships. That's good (gives us a better angle) and no (we don't know both sides). On the other hand, I'm not particularly politically correct. If I don't like something, I will say it aloud. That's the teacher in me, where I get to "grant" kids the privilege of relieving themselves . . . or not. (I'm just kidding: I either say "yes" or "Can you wait five minutes?").

Southernsusana, just out of curiosity who did you think was being mean on the Doxie thread? Some posters were harsher than others, but I didn't see anyone I actually thought was out of line.

So what if I happened to be wearing a white dress...........Does that still make me silly? Yeah. Nobody can really enjoy the party because they don't want to be the asshole that screwed up your perfect day that you've been dreaming about since you were in the womb. It's a hugely expensive party that the guests can't really have a good time at. Lame. Have a small ceremony with your family, do the father daughter dance and all that other crap at the reception afterward. Then invite everyone to a huge after party and live it up. It's more fun for everyone.

Funny...the last time my partner & I discussed marriage, I said that I wouldn't want to do the big wedding thing. He said if we were getting married he wanted to do it the traditional way, big wedding and all.
That was about 7 years ago...I figure it's easier just to keep living in sin.

LMAO!!! I can see you have begun the brainwashing on your daughters so they don't plan on a big expensive wedding on Daddy's dime... [image] If they think I'm paying for an expensive wedding they're smoking crack. Loop and I had a wedding in a public park, that took all of a week to plan, cost a few hundred bucks (including her dress), and had a guest list that numbered maybe 20. If it was good enough for us, it's good enough for them. ETA - Her dad even performed our ceremony, and I think I'm still an ordained minister. There's no expiration date on that or anything right? So yeah, my girls will get maybe one or two thousand from us and I'll perform the ceremony if they want.

I don't generally gossip. I was at a friends house the other week and all they talked quite a bit about this person and that person and I found myself contributing to the conversation and asking for more, then I felt really guilty and bad and it reminded me of why I don't gossip......cos it's makes me feel like shit.

I'm not going to name names on Doxie's "petsitting" thread. I don't think anyone said anything to be deliberately mean. But we sugar-coat stuff a little in the South. I say "Would you please whatever," when it is actually a command. When a kid has the smarts (read a couple of different ways), to say, "No thanks, I won't whatever" . . . well, I chime, "Wrong answer. Try again." No one sugar coats anything much on here. That's ok on one level since we are pretending to be asking for advice. But most of the people want reassurance and not really advice. That being said, I do love this Board with all its quirkiness, etc. If I ever adopt anyone, it will be Thyme. She reminds me so much of my own daughter. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

It's more fun for everyone. Our reception ends at 4:00 pm. Then we're heading to the hotel to change out of our wedding clothes and hitting the casinos as one big happy group, most of whom will be drunk by then. Does that count? If they think I'm paying for an expensive wedding they're smoking crack. Loop and I had a wedding in a public park, that took all of a week to plan, cost a few hundred bucks (including her dress), and had a guest list that numbered maybe 20. If it was good enough for us, it's good enough for them.I never expected my parents to help us pay for it. They are giving us a very generous wedding present which is allowing us to expand our budget a little bit, which is awesome of them. But I'm sure your girls won't hold it against you if you don't pay for their weddings. I think you should still go if they plan their own expensive galas though

Other parents might spoil their kids rotten but I'm not going to be that fool. If they want to blow their own money on it I'll be right there to walk 'em down the aisle though.

I wanted to do it big, If you think that makes me a princess, whatever. My perfect day consisted of hanging with friends, going to the driving range, eating burgers, drinking, and then dressing up for a big party and dinner. We happened to make a pit stop at a church. Perfect day, my ass. I had fun. Oh, and DH's uncle stepped on my train and ripped it at the reception. I called him a fucker, got some safety pins and went on with the party, which is exactly what I would have done had it not been a wedding.

Nope. I'm far more laid back, far less intense than on these boards. It's rare that I talk about ANY of this stuff in person- especially money, and I only talk politics with a select few friends. I'm gifted in the arena of hospitality-- I'd rather have you all over for some terrific food, beverage, and entertainment. It's only after you're good and loaded that I ask you if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and I show you the Amway 'plan' on my little white board... ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/50_50.gif) But seriously- you should meet me. I'm really quite nice and non-threatening... ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

This thread has been quite entertaining. I read a lot, but don't always have time to post. Love y'all!!! I'm with Dark on the tv watching. Love both the reference to McCoy and Sheldon and Leonard. Thyme, what exactly is your husband charging you for? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I suppose I could answer the original question. Sometimes I think those thoughts, but I try not to say them out loud.
