As for the reactions on this board, I know for me if someone stumbles on to something that someone in RL is doing that drives me nuts they are going to get it both barrels. And I've just been through 2 years with a worker that used her kids as an excuse to arrive late, leave early or not show up at all at least 3 times a week. Every week. She finally got fired!

If you were part of my circle of friends I'd probably be thinking the following:
1) 10 min late to the party.
Seems like great timing to me. Sometime in the first 30 minutes seems reasonable for most events.
2) Social calendar/kids.
No idea. I don't have kids yet, and don't interact all that often with my friends who do. (they all live 40+ min away) Ask me again in a couple of years.
3) Spending retail.
I have no way of knowing whether my friends buy retail, wait for sales, or do extreme couponing. (Other than one former colleague who talked a lot about couponing. She was weird in a number of ways that resulted in unkind thoughts. Outlier.) Therefore, I wouldn't think to form an opinion about your spending.
4) New car.
Probably depends on the model, honestly. Mostly I'd think "nice car!" or "boys and their need for flashy luxury sports cars." I certainly wouldn't think you were trying to make me feel bad. Thoughts I've had recently about friends with new cars have been:
"Love the new Badger-mobile!" - said to younger colleague (Wisconsin grad) who traded in a 1984 giant white boat for a red Prius during cash for clunkers.
"All the cars in the world to choose from an he picked a Chevy Malibu?!?" - said behind back of colleague who had recently traded in an ancient Pontaic. (Said colleague announced his wife was expecting about two months later. Lots of "oh - that makes sense then" went around the department regarding the car.)
"Are they pregnant?" - said by DH about a pair of friends who went from a Focus to a CRV. (Several years ago - no kids yet.)
"Again, seriously?" - thought several times about a pair of close friends who have bought a new Mustang, new Minicooper (traded in 2 weeks later for $2k loss), new Accord, and new Ford SUV in the 7 years I've known them.
5) Renovations.
Mostly I'm just jealous about renovations and wonder where people find the money. I did probably think some nasty things about a pair of friends who bought a house, did major renovations, bought a Jaguar station wagon, and had IVF all within a year of grad school ending. Mostly I thought "either they're up to their eyeballs in debt, or her father has way more money than I thought."
6) School.
Student loans never really cross my mind, so probably no opinion there.
7) Wedding.
Unless it was completely over the top, I probably had fun. If you made me wait hours between the ceremony and reception, I probably complained. If you had an insanely beautiful ceremony and reception in downtown Chicago with amazing food and a great party, I can guarantee I said outloud to other friends at the reception "Holy crap - this must have cost at least $100k. So awesome though."
8) Vacation on Facebook.
Totally normal in my group of friends. (As long as you keep the number of pictures posted <50. If you post 100+ pictures, I think you're weird.)
9) Inviting people over.
Some of my friends' homes are too cold for me. I make an effort to wear thick socks and a fleece/sweater. Otherwise I'm either admiring your beautiful home or thinking "thank god I'm not the only slob on the planet - these people are NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

LOL - I always wonder if people think I'm anally neat, or a complete slob. I have been in enough houses to know that some people are super-crazy about cleaning, and some people are really casual about cleaning up before anyone comes over. I love when people happen to drop by on Friday afternoon, because my cleaning lady was just there and the place is sparkling. By Saturday night we are back to normal.

Well, for one, I don't consider being judgmental a character flow. And two, I don't know if it's a learned behavior or whatnot, but I really don't talk behind people's back. Unfortunately, I am too blunt for that. It has cost me, both financially and otherwise and I am trying to learn to filter a bit. That being said, I don't usually volunteer my opinions either. Does this make any sense??

::I thought that's why we came here, to talk crap about everyone and feel like we are so much better than anybody else! :: Silly, that's the only reason I exist in real life! I would say I'm pretty judgmental and snarky in real life, but all the things on your list seem pretty normal. Except for the running your life around the kids. Kids are dumb. I work my schedule around when my pretty dog needs to be walked. psssstt, Swamp....you know illincheme is an engineer, right?? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

The next 48 hours will be great. Then the kitchen sink will be back to full of dirt, radish tops, and stray lettuce leaves and cereal bowls will start accumulating on every horizontal surface in the house. DH is a lovely DH, but he does make a mess. At least he's enjoying our first ever vegetable garden!

No - clearly you have no idea what you are talking about, and probably just making up your entire online persona. In real life you are a meek 14 year old boy. ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/tongue_smile.gif)

I think we all have at least one person in our life that makes us think WTH? And then we come and share it on here. So no, I don't feel that way about everyone in my life. But how annoying would it be if we all came and bragged about how great everything was?

I guess no one ever seems to say anything nice about their family, their friends - and we often don't really get a lot of nice stuff about spouses. It is always the stuff that pisses them off. And, with so many people on here using this as their own place to vent their opinions on everything from appropriate atire to acceptable weekend plans, there is at least one person on here that hates just about everything. Someone hates spending holidays with their Mom. Someone hates having drinks with friends to celebrate a birthday. Someone hates going to weddings. Someone hates talking on the phone. Someone hates getting texts. Someone hates facebook. Someone hates dressing up. Someone hates when everyone is too casual. Someone hates being one minute late. Someone hates being one minute early. If you try to assimiliate the opinions - you are pretty much screwed as you can't please all of the people all of the time.
I'm just wondering what my friends and family hate that they won't cowboy up and tell me. I don't even know what I'm doing that is annoying them.

No, on this board, you hear what people are thinking...not what they are saying.
The internet merely provides a place for someone to type what they are thinking...without the damage of actually saying it to the person's face.
This...
I guess no one ever seems to say anything nice about their family, their friends - and we often don't really get a lot of nice stuff about spouses. It is always the stuff that pisses them off.
Because if we're happy with them we can tell them to their face, if we can't say something to their face, we bitch about it here.

Thyme,
I would guess some of them say SOMETHING. I mean what's the point of having friends if you can't give them abuse from time to time...ummm I mean "tough love".
I like illi's examples. I would think most people would be a little jealous because you have so much going for you and are really funny even when you're snarky!
I'm probably a little judgmental too. But I just hate listening to people who can't learn from their mistakes and bitch about having no money.

::I'm just wondering what my friends and family hate that they won't cowboy up and tell me. I don't even know what I'm doing that is annoying them. ::
I was going to ask if that was a can of worms you really wanted to open, but as I think about it a little more, I've decided you should go for it! Invite your family and friends over....yell at the ones who arrive one minute early and the ones who arrive one minute late. Tell all your guests in advance that no children are allowed, then let your kids run wild through the house, screeching and throwing red wine on people. Talk about how much money you make, your new car, your bathroom remodel and your vacation plans. Be sure to pepper all conversation with talk of how freaking hard life is....perhaps a "I just can't find good help these days" several times. Make sure you have provided food they will hate and/or are allergic to but plentiful cocktail options....then after a few hours ask everyone what's annoying about you. They'll say "nothing" at first, but I think if you berate and harangue them long enough it could lead to some really good stuff.
Obviously, the final step is for you to report back here.

I arrived 10 minutes after the party invite stated. Do my friends see me as a giant jerk-off who wants to exhibit my power and control?
Thyme, was this party just a social gathering or a sit down meal scheduled for a certain thyme(LOL). I think you are being a bit neurotic.
