Thanks ladyki and gardengirl! I didn't have too much trouble conceiving my first, but the pregnancy was rough; I got pre-e and gained 70 lbs!
Ladyki I hope that you have an easier time TTC this go - you must be tough. I don't think I was in the mood for anything other than sleep when baby girl was 5 months. (She turned 2 in November).

Hey Gals, just saw this thread and thought I'd join! I'm usually in WIR Racers - Midwest. I just had my first child. A daughter we named Isla (eye-la for those of you like my mom that pronounced it Iss-la first Our little lady was born at only 25 weeks gestation on October 20, 2010 (her due date was February 1, 2011) and weighed 1 pound 1.8 ounces. We've been riding the NICU rollercoaster for around 11 weeks now (Isla will be 11 weeks on Wednesday or 36 weeks gestation tomorrow!) and she's doing really well! She's on nasal cannula now, which is the last step before she could be off of oxygen entirely. I'm always looking for extra prayers or our little angel - you can also keep up with her progress on her caringbridge site - that's where I do most of her daily updates (http://www.caringbridge.com/visit/islamarie). If there are any mothers out there who have had babies in the NICU, I'd love any insight or advice.

Congratulations! I checked out the site and she is absolutely adorable!! I know the preemie/NICU route isn't the ideal way, but it sounds like your little girl is doing well. Moving to the cannula is a great sign.
There are a few of us that have been through this, so you are in good company. My little guy was born in April at 29 weeks, 6 days gestation. He spent a total of 52 days in the NICU. Other than some lung issues when he gets a cold, he has been a very healthy preemie. The biggest battle was getting him off the feeding tube and onto the boob and bottle.

dizzy - welcome and congratulations! I hope to hear more about your little lady getting better every day!
kristi - welcome to the board!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and new year. Finally got a nursing bra this weekend, which feels so much better already. I had no idea I had grown so much in the chest. I also got the pump my friend gave me checked out, and got replacement parts. DH and I got a lot done around the house, and it felt really nice to just spend some time together getting house projects done before DS arrives. I am in overdrive now at work and with my small business trying to get year end handled, and taxes filed!

dizzy - I checked out your website, and your little girl is so beautiful! I'm sure you're very proud of the progress she's making. I have no advice for you (I'm still pregnant - nearly 39 weeks now), but I have some understanding of the emotional ride that having a baby in the NICU can turn into (my cousin was born at 27 weeks gestation - 1 lb. 11 oz. - btw, he's 15 years old now and the absolute picture of health!!) Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your story with us, and welcome to the group!!

Happy New Year everyone! Just spent the last 10 days with family visiting (and not even living with us, but near enough where we saw everyone nearly every day) and it was such a relief to get back to work DD started daycare last week and didn't take to it too well. She got the whole room crying when I left this morning. DH just called an hour ago and she's calmed down now and eating and napping.

(She turned 2 in November). lol, I am tired too and I would really want some more sleep, but I just dont want to loose any time and give my condition any further time to progress. Dr. said that my condition, endometriosis usually comes back within 18 months after having a baby and maybe even sooner.

Dizzy- your daughter is beautiful and strong. I have two sets of twin and all of them were in the nicu for sometime. It is really tough to see your child and not be able to hold her. She seems to be doing great and the only things that will help is the love and support of her family! I had a very hard time with my own kids. Just to look at them with all the wires, hoses, needles etc. My youngest was the worst of mine. Born at 2 pounds 2 oz. he had a hard time with everything. there was some fluid in his lungs and a bleed in his brain. 2 surgeries and 82 days in the nicu he is a happy little boy. Just have faith and be strong, Isla will be fine. You and your family will be in my prayers!!

kristi - welcome back! I had been rereading the earlier posts on the msn thread and do remember you. I also didn't start working on #2 until #1 was 2 years old.
ladyki - sending you some baby dust!
dizzy - welcome! I'm glad Isla is progressing so well.
soontobe - It's usually not the easiest transition to daycare, but at least she's calmed down. How old is she?

Read more: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wir&action=display&thread=85&page=3#ixzz1A0UUnozUBoosMom, she is 9 months old. DS started at 6 months before stranger anxiety kicked and he's never had a problem. Different kid, different personality I guess. I think she'll be fine. I just saw her on the webcam and it looked like she was playing on the floor with the other babies.

soon2be - actually, my kids were totally different. Both started with HDCPs at 6 months old. #1 was fine. #2 cried. I think he cried most of his first day, but the sitter was really good and carried and comforted him. He was a lot more clingy to me than #1 was. Sometimes #2 will still cry when I drop him at preschool. He is fine after a little bit. Glad you have the webcam so that you can watch her.

dizzy - I just got done reading the whole journal of your preemie experience. I can really relate to some of what you wrote, but other parts are so different from my own experience. It blows me away that you can still have such strength and positivity after everything your baby girl has been through. It sounds like Isla is a real tough cookie and I hope that she makes progress quickly so that she can come home at the right time.

Ladies I have a question. The Dr. gave the okay to start Kiani on baby food stage 1 and cereal as well, when do babies move to baby food stage 2?
|
|
|
Post by boosmom on Jan 3, 2011 18:23:26 GMT -5
ladyki - stage 2 is just slightly chunkier (not really) than stage 1, and there is a greater variety. I think I used stage 2 for the "basic" foods offered in the stage 1 right off the bat. It was mainly the size of the jars. Stage 1 jars only came in smaller sized jars or were more expensive than stage 2. But there was minimal difference consistency-wise. Stage 3 has definitely bigger chunks and more mixed foods with new ingredients, so those I had to be careful about allergens and spacing them out.

Hey ladies, getting more and more numb and therefore harder to type so just a quick update. Went to ER on Saturday (happy new year to me! ). Did a CT scan which came back normal so at least it's not a brain tumor. So my MRI is tomorrow at 12:30! Sad that it took going to the ER to get it, but ya know what, it's no skin off my nose so Medicaid can suck it. If it weren't for their stupid policies, I wouldn't have had to go. I understand an MRI is an expensive procedure but jeez, when you might have something wrong with your brain, I think they should loosen the purse strings a little. The doctor at the ER was really nice though, listened to everything, and was really proactive about getting this fixed. I'm still reading and hopefully will rejoin with actual responses soon!

boo's mom: it's nice to be remembered!
ladyki: I don't remember the times exactly, but we were done with all of the canned baby food by about a year. Baby girl was good with her hands and loved to self feed, so we did lots of finger foods and mashed up adult food after that.

Meg that does stink that it took going to the ER, but like you said Medicaid can now suck it, I think having to go to the ER definetly qualifies as "worse". I went back down to 4 oz with my last three pump sessions, however with the 7oz that brought me up to 19 oz so that is almost three 7 oz bottles which I would think is more than enough for daycare. I'll keep drinking the tea and see if I can keep it up. I am going to present DH with the idea of Gwen getting half/half at night for her last feeding. She's back to getting up 3 times a night. Midnight, two and four. It's exhausting me and I have no idea why if it is because she is really hungry or if it is habit, she can't tell me. We tried to CIO last night but I lost it, it was like nails on a chalkboard. DH got all huffy with me and took her into the living room. Excuse MEEE that I cussed when she woke up again! I also think she is having night terrors, can 6 month old babies have those? Sometimes she will let out the most distressed little wail but will still be asleep or she will start crying hysterically but not be hungry, she'll fall asleep and smile as soon as one of us picks her up to comfort her. I told DH it is almost like she is having nightmares. Urgh, we only have a few more weeks to go before we can start her on solids. Maybe she will start sleeping thru the night then.

Meg - I am glad you went to the E-room and got your MRI. It stinks that it took going to the E-room to get it done in the first place though! How frustrating. But I hope you get some answers.
Drama - have you started Gwen on any cereals? Rice or Oatmeal or anything? You just mix some of the cereal with your breastmilk and either put it in a bottle or spoon it to her. Might help her sleep better at night. Sounds like she is hungry! I was thinking maybe teething too, but you said she settles down after you pick her up, so maybe she is having nightmares. Hmmm...

Not yet. DH thinks we should just go ahead, but I was told either when she drinks 6 oz consistently, weighs 16 pounds or is 6 months.
I don't have a scale so I don't know what she weighs. She doesn't always eat 6 oz at one shot at a daycare but eats what averages out to that per session and then I can't measure what she is eating out of my boobs.
I don't want to cause her any tummy or digestion troubles. DH is willing to hang on for another three weeks but I don't know if I can take her getting up three times a night.

meg - thinking of you! keep us posted when you get the MRI results.
officially annoyed this morning. I have an employee who was arrived 45 minutes late this morning due to a delayed flight in from out of town, but didn't bother to call me. We're a really small company (10 people), and all of the employees know the drill. If you'll be late, just call me. This woman is in her mid 30's, has been here about a year, and definitely knows better. Nothing is more irritating to me than having to tell grown adults how to behave professionally. So, now I have to sit here and write her up. I have more important things to be doing!
DH and I start child birth classes tonight. We're doing 3 hour classes for the next 3 Tuesday nights. I also have a BF class on Thursday. I am excited about it, but I am wondering how DH will do. Especially with the videos...

I was afraid of how DH would handle the videos but he did fine. He commented to me that gutting a deer is a lot nastier.

Problem is that my DH doesn't hunt or anything of the like. He basically faints at the sight of needles, let alone actually getting a shot. At least we'll be in a hospital
