Well, my school district is going with all virtual to start. And they're keeping the separate start dates. So I've got 1 who starts Mid August and 1 who starts in early Sept. Joy.
When covid decreases, they'll move to a 2in, 3 out system. With everyone back in the classroom when conditions allow. No timelines, which is both good and bad. Good, in that it implies they're going to be stats/science driven and bad because I have to explain it to the kids.
Beth, do they have more detailed plans how the virtual school will work? Like, zoom classes or short videos explaining material to kids and then assignments? I have no idea what our online only school would look like, but it is offered, or how it would be different from remote learning. We don't find out till the last week of July and the start day is still middle of August so not a whole lot of time to make up your mind when the plans will be revealed so late.

Not as far as I know anciana. I'm assuming we will be picking up a Chromebook. I wonder how the "one Chromebook per family" will work with multiple kids needing to use it. We made it work before but that was with C's teacher doing like 2-3 hours of classtime a week and K's stuff was doable around his.

I think DD11 automatically gets a chromebook as a 7th grader but keep forgetting to ask her. Our personal laptop is on its last legs so DH and I are planning to watch back to school laptop sales and get one on tax free weekend. That way we'll be ready with a computer for DD7 (2nd grade). She used the tablet for the little bit she had to be online last year.

I don't think people realize how not normal the in class room portion will be. We are talking about having students in their seats all day, the same seat. Teachers will move from classroom to classroom. There will be no group projects or moving around, going up to the white board to solve things, talking in the hallway with friends between classes. Lunch will be at the same desk they have been in all day. I have no idea how my kids with ADHD and need movement breaks will do. I have no idea how my kids with Aut who needs that solid structure and routine handle what will be 1 day in school for each class. Or how will they handle it when their classroom or school is suddenly closed for 2 weeks due to needing to quarantine. I worry about next year, and the year after that and even more down the road on how many kids I will have with ED because they lost a classmate or teacher during the year, or they brought it home from school and that lead to the death of a family member. What survive guilt will some of these kids have. As a parent I can not imagine my 9 year old doing well with what the in class room will look like. I can't see her not wanting to interact with her friends in the classroom, my little one who wants and is willing to share anything with someone, being reminded that she can't give her friend who doesn't have a pencil one of her extras. She loves school, and I would rather her keep that love for when she can goes back, then have a year that kills it. We have a mask mandate in our area so I've been talking to the kids about a very real possibility that they'll have to wear them all day at school, if they end up going. Also, letting them know of possibility that they will more than likely be in the same classroom the whole day. We have a tween and a teenager so though it might be easier for them to understand it is still hard to accept and comply. I wear a mask all day at work so I've gotten used to it and they are aware of it so hopefully as uncomfortable as it is, they realize it is necessary. None of us are coming out of this experience unscathed. None. And my heart absolutely hurts for the kids growing up at this time. Not sure if it's harder remembering how it was before and having to adjust or just being a little kid who doesn't know any better. There are parents in our community talking about their kindergarteners going to school for the first time and how different their experience might be than the kids just the previous year. My own kids seemed to be doing OK but then couple of months ago our younger … no, can't write it our even here. We are dealing with it, trying to help her cope, involved people who can help more. My heart hurts for my kids and having to constantly try to find balance between their physical health and safety and their mental health while going through this. I am personally drawing on all the strength I can find in all the communities around me to figure out best ways to manage. Many of you here are and have been such great resource for me, and I cannot thank you enough. I have learned so much and continue to learn. You all help me grow into a better person and a better parent because I believe my kids deserve it.

We are always here and have vast experiences to draw from. Parenting is hard and you can always come here and vent or cry or ask and we won’t judge.

Hugs anciana. Even for the relatively privileged, this is tough. oped I was hoping I could pick your brains on homeschooling special needs kids? My neighbor decided she might as well homeschool as pay tuition and spend all her time and energy trying to keep him focused on zoom meetings anyway. Do you have any handy links to websites, curricula or other resources? He is late elementary but wouldn’t be on a typical common core timeline.

Our governor announced on Wednesday that schools can’t start up again until at least after Labor Day (for reference, our first day was supposed to be August 12, which is about the normal range for the state). Our school district was set to approve and announce the new guidelines and regulations in effect for the fall (as well as what was going on with the all in-person and all virtual learning options) on Thursday/Friday, but the governor’s announcement put all that on hold (she’s also releasing more info next week).
I do think it’s a good thing to wait a few more weeks, but I’m also frustrated that it probably won’t give teachers and staff any more time to prepare as the school districts will just delay publishing their guidelines and regulations. I’m also grateful C is at daycare with M this summer so we don’t have to cobble together another month of childcare - he can just stay there a few extra weeks.

And my Trump hand puppet of a Governor is trying to force all in person schooling this year. She wants to take away options for schools to be able to decide to do virtual or alternate days. Kids have to be in school at least 50% of the time. I am guessing that the 2 day on 3 day off our school system is looking at would meet that but IDK.
I would like some sort of in school option Abby does better with the ability to see kids her own age and so does Gwen. They also do better under a teacher because they can focus 100% on getting them to do the work as oppose to DH and I who have to focus on our jobs the majority of the time.
I am not keen on 100% open like nothing ever happened. I hope she doesn't try to repeal the schools requiring masks. As of right now the girls go to daycare so I could live with it if the school can keep the masks on at all times rule they currently have. If she tries to ban masks I may have to talk to my mom about the possibility we go virtual. Course she's trying to take away that too unless you can "prove" you have health problems.
Ummm . .shouldn't corona count as a health problem? And who the hell are you to decide which kids are at risk and which kids aren't? Sure some may have more cormorbidity factors than others but that doesn't mean my kid won't end up dead from it too.
I hate my state. I really really hate my state. I hate Nebraska too for that matter. Ricketts is just as much a hand puppet for Trump. And the majority of the people eat this shit up and will gladly vote them back into office. Meanwhile a lot of those very same Trump supporters are the ones in counties that have like two ICU beds so all their non-mask wearing gun toting tiny dick asses will end up in the urban areas to infect the rest of us.

I don't think it will be the same at all. One of the committees I am on is creating a pacing guide and curriculum guide for our remote classes and hybrid classes. Looking at our resources and figuring out how to apply and use them in an online format. We started 2 weeks ago, and have 2 more weeks to go. Of course it would help if we knew which one we were doing to we could focus on that but.... I am expecting it to look very different then what was tossed together in a seconds notice.

LurkyLoo do you know what the disability is? I have some different resources ideas, but there is a lot of range in SPED. My first suggestion would be to review the child's IEP for accommodations and goals and figure out how to those will need to be adjusted with homeschooling.

I was going to say don't kill him you'll go to jail. Then I realized in jail you don't have to cook, clean and get a room all to yourself. So not seeing a downside.

He is autistic and usually goes to a specialized private school, so I’m not sure he has an IEP or about any secondary diagnoses. I’d love to hear any resource ideas-my own kid is adhd, so I’m open to that too! We’re limping along with public school adequately so far, but I have no problem making him do extra work to earn video game time

DD was in a summer camp this week and we ended up at PetSmart yesterday to kill sometime before we needed to be some place else. DD saw a cute little red craw crab in an aquarium there. She asked if we could get it and I said no. We would need to talk to DH/her dad and we don’t anything ready for it. We were there again today as I wanted to go to a store next to it too as we were in the area. While we were there, she asked again about the crab and said her birthday was soon. [DD’s birthday is in 2.5 weeks (she’ll be 9).] She mentioned that she due to the coronavirus, she can’t really go anywhere fun. Then she asked for the crab for her birthday basically. I repeated that we needed to talk with DH/DD’s dad. (Couldn’t today so will later.) Now I’m researching tanks as I wanted something bigger than the 1.5 gallon tank we had for her betta fish that since died. DH and I have talked about getting a bigger fish tank to have more fish. (We’ve mentioned it off-and-on for years.) Our cat would probably like looking at them. I was thinking 10 gallon but now thinking possibly larger. I really need to look and see what a good place to put it would be in our house.

Gwen was asking about my skin care routine and I asked if I looked better.
She said no. I said you want to try harder to lower my self esteem there and she said it can't go lower my self esteem is dead.
Ouch. Though she's not wrong...🤔

Kid is not dead yet. Apparently I'm too mad to even talk to him...which is kind of freaking him out a little, but there's nothing to talk about as far as I'm concerned.

Talk me down from killing my kid. He walked out of his job today without giving notice. What happened to cause him to walk out?

Talk me down from killing my kid. He walked out of his job today without giving notice. What happened to cause him to walk out? He's hated this new department they put him in a few weeks ago (that he requested to be put in) and he asked to be transferred back. Apparently they denied his request and he got pissed and quit. I get not wanting to work in an area. I don't like how he went about it or his attitude. He had texted me from work telling me unless I could give him a good reason not to he was walking out in 15 minutes. I told him to not be an asshole and give 2 weeks or he'd never get a good reference from them. It's a fortune 500, one of the largest employers in our town, his dad has been working there for almost 30 years, and helped get him the job, a foundation from the company paid half his tuition through high school and they gave him a big scholarship for college. He says, "I'm going to get an aerospace engineering degree, what do I care about that place or them giving me a reference". I was just so flabbergasted I couldn't see straight. He also thinks he has plenty of money. My first inclination was to ask him to cough up the money for the laptop I just bought Wednesday, but seeing as that was his birthday and I already had proclaimed it as a gift that might be kind of a cheap shot.

Oh damn, that's slapping a lot of hands - make sense why you're mad! I'd be hard pressed when he asks you for money to say "I thought you were getting an aerospace engineering degree and didn't need that place", but I'm not a mom yet so maybe I'm just a petty thing Plus, damn, if it's his dad's company he might have pissed him off too.

No, the scholarship is not directly from the company. It's through a foundation set up by some of the founders of the company. He was done in 6 weeks anyhow and has hated working there for quite a while now, so I wouldn't have been that upset if he just gave notice first, but to walk out seems very disrespectful to me. But yeah, he's going to be a rich aerospace engineer now, so what does he need those shmucks for? ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/rolleyes2.gif) I told him he better not be talking smart, because he didn't have a single college class under his belt yet and I also didn't think the 4K he had squirreled away was going to last him long and he'd be needing another job long before he got his degree. I tell you. My sweet, grateful kid has been transformed into an asshole.

MPL, 18-yo's are assholes. All of them. They think they're adults and know everything and everyone else is just sort of lame and in their way. They outgrow it, if they're allowed to live.
