1) The idea of "letting" your teenage daughter wear something - LOL. I had a secret wardrobe that lived in my locker and my friends' houses. My parents wouldn't "let" me out of the house in something. Sure. Good luck with that.
2) Every generation is shocked and appalled by the fashion choices of the generation after it. ESPECIALLY young women. Let's think real hard about why that might be. I have some ideas. *Hint, sexism and a need to police the sexuality of girls.*
3) Teenage girls are generally discovering their sexuality. There's a lot of hormones running around. They generally are not dressing for adults. They are dressing for other teenagers. Like I said, in-group, out-group. Trying to attract attention from the opposite sex for the first time. Sexual power for the first time. The power to shock and appall adults is also a bonus.
4) It's really just fucking gross that people are sitting here talking about how some teenager they don't know looks like a prostitute.

if she was a dude and wearing a decorative jock strap to school, I'd be just as shocked and appalled. Just so you know I'm not sexist or anything. I'm not going to apologize for wanting people to cover more than 30% of their bodies when they go out in public. At a beach or pool - fine. But walking around town or in school? Nope. Call me whatever, I really DGAF.

I wish I had taken advantage more of being 18. I spent way too much time hiding my body. While I'd never be comfortable wearing the outfit in the picture I could have rocked a lot of stuff that according to the voice in my head was "indecent". I don't look bad now by any means but I sure ain't 18 years old anymore either.

My daughter would love her outfit. Granted, she is only six and we haven't had to worry about teasing about clothes yet. M comes up with "unique" combinations...what can I say, she's very creative. I tell her "I don't think that matches, but if you want to wear it anyway, that's up to you." She thinks it's terribly unfair that girls (women) have to wear a shirt outside but boys/men don't.You're girl is smart. Used to be both sexes back in the 20's-40' s had to be completely clothed in public, hence those god awful bathing suits you see in old time photos. Then society got into it's head that only women need to cover up to protect our virginity modesty and that our chests are considered "obscene". Never mind I've seen men with WAAAY bigger chests than I have out and about with no shirt on. I'd be 100% fine if men went back to swim shirts and trunks. It's better for your skin anyway.

I'm far from a prude but OMG on that outfit. It looks like she should be walking the streets, not high school. 😱👎 Is there a valid reason we are focused on shaming someone I assume is a stranger and also a minor? She's not a minor. She said she's 18 in the post.

I don't get why people are so offended by her stomach. However if the resturant had a dress code then the waitress was just doing her job, there is no need to shame the waitress for doing her job. They don't make enough to stand around judging every person and their outfit on a case by case basis. Just let it go! let it go!

The woman was breaking the dress code and wasn't served. End of story. How she looked is irrelevant. I don't think she looked horrible, but it's definitely not my style.

I used to go clubbing a little, and I'd wear clubbing clothes that were absolutely inappropriate for school. There's a time and place for showing more skin or less. Generally, boys don't tend to show as much, going shirtless outside/playing sports being the exception. I don't want to see their underwear hanging out with pants coming only to the bottom of their butts, either. That look, I just find ridiculous.

I'm not sure there was a dress code about crop tops though. She basically seems to have been told that what she was wearing wasn't a shirt... If everyone with midriff showing was also shown the door I'm good with it. If it was a rule arbitrarily applied to a pregnant belly?

Speaking of weird looks...C prefers long socks to short ones and pulls them all the way up. So white or colored athletic socks up to mid calf with sneakers/hiking boots and the occasional sandal and shorts. This is weird--right? I'm not trying to give him a complex, but it is such an old man thing to me. I don't see other kids at school like this, so I'm glad that he isn't trying to conform but then I wonder if I'm just out of touch? I made him change when he came out with black socks pulled up, sandals and an athletic tank top and shorts.

No different than toe socks imo. We used to roll our socks. Drove my dad insane.

Or you could have one like DD who wouldn't wear matching socks. That was a battle I didn't fight. The rule was church you wore them. We only ate out at casual places when they were kids so socks that didn't match was no biggie. But even at home shirts were worn to the dinner table. Regardless of gender.

Mismatched socks are the thing according to Gwen. You're not cool if you match. Drives DH batty. Must be the way he raised my dad is the same way. My socks never match but not on purpose. I just lose them all. You can't see them inside my shoes or under my pants so who cares?

My kids will wear an orange or green shirt with red and blue shorts, or black shirt with navy shorts. And the color of the socks usually clash, too.

Today B wore a hot pink shirt with sparkly black batman symbol, a pink tutu which was also asymmetrical and hung to her calves, a pair of leggings in flourescent blue and purple covered in stars and neon yellow socks covered with orange moons under purple shoes.
Looking at her gave me a hangover.

EOB rejecting a psych claim for location. Location is a telehealth service ADMINISTERED BY THE MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS ADMINISTRATOR. They really are nuts. A few weeks ago, I had a claim rejected for a service I had gotten preapproval for. I had the benefits book saying it was covered, a letter saying it was preapproved, and then a rejection letter saying it wasn't a covered service. Mm-hmm.

I has been wearing mismatched socks for a couple of years. Most of the time, we don't care. If we are going to a wedding, a nice place, etc., then we have her match them. If not, we don't.
Every once in a while, she matches them for the day. 😉

I buy all the same socks for the 4 months that I'm forced to wear them so it really and truly doesn't matter if they match or not. I wear flip flops from snowmelt to snowfall so no socks then. My holiday socks are the only ones that are different.

I thought they sold socks in, like, groups of 3, none of the patterns exactly alike, but same colors.

My kids can't just go to friends house's or wander around town, and the school is stricter on dress code than I am, so keeping clothes in their locker isn't going to help any.

How not to start your day off - a positive test for strep at urgent care followed by a penicillin shot in your rear. Or as the nurse put it, trying to be humorous, its like elmer's glue going in. Gee, thanks. At least I didn't have to make a pharmacy run since I got a shot instead.
And I spent the day at home, since I'm contagious and didn't want to infect anyone at the office. Yay for a nap. Hoping I feel better tomorrow - really, I only have a sore throat and my right ear hurts, so I know it could be worse. Also, fingers crossed the kids and DH don't catch it.
