Clean up kit..... right.... I'll put that on my list with unnecessary meds and new vaccines...... Nope, I'm staying old school on my light bulbs as long as possible.

"In the meantime, you shouldn't have had 100w bulbs in the first place, ya macho strong and wrong little piggies... " I happen to like 100W bulbs. I really don't like CFLs as their longevity depends on whether you use them at least 15 minutes or more at a time. There are lots of lights I like to turn on briefly and then turn off usually in under 5 minutes. I wish they had done studies on that!

I just had a funny thought.
You know how many of us get all sorts of email Spam right now, supposedly selling meds (Viagra, etc.) online without an RX? Anyway, a few years from now ... will it be incandescent lightbulb spam? ;D

I had seen a show on cable that talked about these bulbs, and they just happen to be made in China. Of course they're made in China. Far too dangerous to have OUR children make them!

I think it has to do with labor rates actually. Electronic ballasts (nothing dangerous about them) are all made over seas now as well.

Lol...is no one going to cry about a misleading headline ? The government is not mandating these bulbs. Some one complained about one of mine............ ;D For the record...I don't care..... Government has certainly inserted itself into our light bulb choices. So, your "choices" will be the hazardous mercury laden CFL's or the $50 LED bulbs. The point is that government has no Constitutional authority to ban a light bulb.

Although the United States is not phasing out incandescent light bulbs, it has set minimum efficiency standards for lighting which preclude most legacy incandescent designs; these minimum standards phase in between 2012 and 2014.[8] -- And there are exemptions----In December 2007, many of these state efforts became moot when the federal government enacted the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which requires all general-purpose light bulbs that produce 310–2600 lumens of light[8] be 30% more energy efficient (similar to current halogen lamps) than current incandescent bulbs by 2012 to 2014. The efficiency standards will start with 100-watt bulbs in January 2012 and end with 40-watt bulbs in January 2014.
Light bulbs outside of this range are exempt from the restrictions (historically, less than 40 Watts or more than 150 Watts). Also exempt are several classes of specialty lights, including appliance lamps, rough service bulbs, 3-way, colored lamps, and plant lights.
By 2020, a second tier of restrictions would become effective, which requires all general-purpose bulbs to produce at least 45 lumens per watt (similar to current CFLs). Exemptions from the Act include reflector flood, 3-way, candelabra, colored, and other specialty bulbs.[30]

If you can come up with a way to make incandescents meet the energy efficiency requirements then you can use them (see my comment about previously banned stuff).

You can stick 3 ways in your lamps, buy fancy shaped bulbs, canned lighting...all this talk about not being able to light your house if funny.PS...the hazzard thing is way overblown. The long tube bulbs are just as hazzardous if not moreso, and everyone just dumps them in the trash.

I have never broken a bulb in my life when changing a bulb. Not a big deal for me. If people are that clumsy, maybe they should have someone change it for them. (Jobs Created)

I know for a fact schools do, and my ex employer ,which was a huge national company did in all their facilities. The number of bulbs they put in the dumpsters on a weekly basis must have been staggering.

I don't think the EPA has banned it outright, but it looks like Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin have.

... The point is that government has no Constitutional authority to ban a light bulb. My (maybe imperfect and potentially just outright wrong) understanding is that they didn't "ban a light bulb" since they didn't have that authority. They set standards for light bulbs, which they do(?) have authority to do, which certain types of bulbs had no chance of meeting. Sneaky little bastards.
