I am working from home today (got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday evening) and I went to use my wife computer to email her a document she needs at work. And the web page she had open was the following: us.christianlouboutin.com/shoes.html?p=5Click on the individual shoes to look at the prices? These are shoes!!! So I emailed her and I said I hope you were just day dreaming looking at those shoes and don't have any actual plan to buy them. But thank God she said no... it seems her cousin bought the following for her wedding last october : us.christianlouboutin.com/shoes.html?p=5and her best friend that is getting married this september wanted the same shoes so she was trying to see if her cousin would be willing to sell hers at a cheaper price to her best friend. But seriously... that much for shoes? Are they that comfortable? They don't look it to me. Damn!

CLs ARE a woman's dream shoe. They are not all the comfy (at least to me) but they are the upper echelon for shoes.
*points to Rolex watches* similar deal.

That's insane. I'll drop 400-500 for a pair of boots. But they have a function (get me up and over a mountain safely). Plus they are supposed to be supportive and comfortable. Those shoes look to be 180 degrees opposite of comfortable and supportive.

Those shoes are for people who have more money than brains.
(Disclosure: Back in the 70's I spent a week's pay on a pair of boots. I always got compliments on them; they were comfortable; and I never got tired of them. I still have them (although they don't fit anymore)

For future reference, women seem to hate being spied on when they are looking to spend money.

I can't lie, if I could afford to drop $1K on a pair of shoes without jeopardizing my savings goals, I would. But I can't, so I buy the $40 knockoffs at Charlotte Russe instead. As someone who is, er, vertically challenged, gotta have my tall shoes! ;D

I don't get the Louboutin thing. I mean - they are great shoes, but there are a lot of great shoes out there for under $200. I think CL started it and all the less pricey ones are following the trend. I'm sure your wife's friend could find a really great pair with the same styling for much less.

I know but a) she should have never called me at home to ask me to go on her laptop b) she should not have left the web page open on her laptop I was not spying nor sneaking... it was right there when I went on her laptop.

Seems she only bought the shoes for her wedding day and haven't worn them since then (pregnant, etc) so she might agree to sell them.

And I don't care if they are being purchased by a bride for her "special day". It is obviously more for the "want to impress" factor than anything else. The money would TOTALLY be wasted on me because I have no clue about designer shoes. I made that exact same comment one time on the old MSN boards about people who were talking about spending money on extremely expensive "human grade" pet food. I combined the "more money than brains" comment with pointing out the fact that their pets are not humans. Oh boy, did I get myself in trouble!! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

DW got a rolex for her college graduation gift. Her parents spent about $3K 10 years ago. Same watch (used) now costs about $4K. I don't think used shoes hold the same value. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif)

It's probably the same reason why someone would pay $1000 extra to fly first class, or pay $100K for a wedding.
Back when I first started working, I bought a pair of Ferragamo's. At the time, they were about 1 week's salary for me at the time. But I wore those shoes for nearly 20 years and they were resoled 3x. I'd still be wearing them, if my feet hadn't grown.
A pair of those shoes now would be less proportionally than what I paid for my Ferragamo's back in the mid 1980s.

Does it have to do with what you think other people will think if they recognize what you are wearing?

I guess everyone has their priorities and I guess if they can afford it, so be it. That being said, the last pair of shoes I bought were $3.75 on clearance, regularly $30. But I will think nothing of dropping a couple K on a gun. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

And yes I try my best to keep her away from that cousin but sometimes fails. Her cousin have some pretty expensive taste.

Search complete auctions for CL shoes on ebay. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I mean, don't get me wrong, they aren't assets and I don't have any - but they are HIGH demand.

Dancin: I actually think spending money for premium pet food makes some sense; from what I understand dog longevity is closely tied to the kind and amount of food they eat. I'd spend a LOT of money for an extra couple years with my own (but I'd use coupons ;D)
I've heard that Blahniks are actually ridiculously comfortable shoes for being heels and that's one of the reasons women justify the price tag. Dunno how you justify Louboutins!

Hmmm....I'm still not sure that I get it and I'M not asking you to justify it further, but this is what is going through my head. Looking back on it now, the Farragamos that you bought ended up being a really good value if you wore them for 20 years, but there is no guarantee of that when you actually make the purchase, so it has to be more than that. The analogy of the shoes vs a first class ticket / $100K wedding doesn't work for me. I think there are many more women that might be willing to go into debt for the shoes vs the first class ticket or the extremely expensive wedding. Honestly, though, I have no clue, but have ALWAYS wanted to be able to understand the willingness of someone to have spent a week of their labor and their life for anything that they wear.

Well - I guess I mean they are great looking shoes. I've never put a pair on, so I don't know if they are actually great, or just look great. Do they look 4 or 5 times better than this pair? www.zappos.com/kors-michael-kors-ramsey-gunmetal-blackWill they last 4 or 5 times as long? Are they 4 or 5 times more comfortable? I honestly can't answer that question - and I might never be able to, because unless the charity that Bill Gates leaves his fortune to is my lifestyle, I won't be buying a pair Louboutins. I just don't see it happening.

An example would be the life-long health freak that gets cancer at a relatively young age. The quality of pet food may or may not give you some extra time with them. I think that what you're REALLY paying for is the "feeling" that you're doing all that you can do to take care of them. EDIT: I like the fact that you use coupons though. ![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/thumbs_up.gif)

Actually, I am a shoe lover. I did go into Barney's and look at all the grand-plus shoes, and dream. I even told my husband that one day I was going to buy a pair. (He said okay - he is a bigger shoe whore than me.) So, I'm kinda bummed out. But, when push comes to shove, even if we have the money, I know there is far more $1000 could do for me/us than one fabulous pair of shoes. I mean - $1000 could be 8 or 9 pairs of fabulous shoes! ![](http://media.funsmileys.com/smileys/tongue002.gif)
