Snerdley-was it you who said she was going to a Lady Gaga concert a few weeks back? And if it was you, how long did she perform and did you enjoy it?

Snerdley-I think she is a very creative artist and quite entertaining.
But about that meat dress...better on a grill than on her.

What's up with this topic? Story won't die.. In fact, Common rapped at the 2008 New Year celebration at Wright’s church. “I’m gonna let you know / No people want drama / We gonna vote for my man / What’s his name? Obama … Revolution is here,” he sang, and the Rev. Wright danced in the background. … “Flyer say Free Mumia on my freezer,” he raps in another. Mumia Abu-Jamal is an incarcerated former member of the Black Panther Party who was convicted in 1981 for killing a Philadelphia police officer. … Common has also been a vocal opponent of mixed race relationships and believes black men and white women should not date. In one rap he says, “I don’t know what it is / but white girls gettin’ ass / I know what it is / It’s cash.” Common’s racist opposition to mixed race relations goes beyond a crude song lyric. He not only opposes the mixing of the races, he sees women outside his race as nothing more than objects of personal sexual gratification. From a 2005 interview: COMMON: I don’t think there’s anything the matter with somebody loving somebody from another race but it’s almost like a stereotype that if you’ve got dreadlocks you go out with a white girl. just feel like, as black men, we do have to be aware that, yo, every time we step out with some woman it’s setting an example for our daughters and it’s also representing something for our mothers. If you can’t really love your own, how can you really love others? TOUCH: So you don’t agree with mixed race relationships? COMMON: I disagree with them. It’s a lack of self-love. It’s a problem. TOUCH: Have you ever dated outside your race? COMMON: Nah, not dated [giggles]. TOUCH: Have you slept with anybody outside your race? COMMON: Yeah, I definitely have. bighollywood.breitbart.com/jjmnol....ning-of-poetry/*** What an enlightened view he has!! We white women are okay for sleeping with but we are all hookers or something?*** Man, I better check out some of the rappers I started liking from my kids music when they were in HS. Hopefully they are not this racist. I love Seal. Don't know much about him except history in another place, but at least he is probably not racist since he has a white wife.

Hoo boy, krickitt, I hope Common and Seal weren't seated next to eachother! blocked due to malware/_RaOrchOImw8/SsmBULNJV5I/AAAAAAAAY9c/zWS7yJXYSrA/s400/heidi-seal-leni-henry.jpg[/img] Love Heidi. Miss the designer show.

I've seen them (on TV) interacting, the whole family, can't believe how perfectly lovely they are. They smile at each other with SO much love. Very beautiful. She lights up when she talks about him. I love to see that.

I heard a long time ago something tragic about his scars.. can't remember.. just read on WIKI that there have been many rumors over the years, but it is actually LUPUS. hmm, learn something every day. Seems he grew up an average kid in England, and I thought he had some tragic past. LOL!!

The scars add to his appeal. Your heart immediately goes out to him. I love his gentle singing.

Thanks to whoever mentioned Jon Stewart talked about this on his show. Very funny. I didn't realize until I watched the show that I had recently seen Common in a DVD I borrowed from the library. I also found it helpful because I stumble a bit with the language Common uses and while I knew he wasn't threatening Bush with his poem, I wasn't clear on the police until I watched the Daily Show.
Its a good reminder that certain poets, comedians, etc. context is very important so lines like “Flyer say Free Mumia on my freezer,” really don't tell you much unless you hear the rest of it.
On a side note, I borrowed the DVD on Lenny starring Dustin Hoffman. Very interesting and also a bit sad as to how many arrests, etc. he dealt with.

Obviously, Michelle Obama is much smarter than the average rightie... Jon Stewart Exposes Fox News' "Ridiculous" Coverage Of Common "Controversy"Jon Stewart On Fox's Fake "Common" Controversy: "It's Almost Impossible To Express How Ridiculous...You All Are" On the May 11 edition of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart highlighted the absurd hypocrisy in Fox's manufactured controversy over the White House's decision to host rapper Common at a poetry event. As Stewart pointed out, Fox has celebrated musicians with far more violent lyrics, including hosting Ted Nugent--who once told President Obama "to suck on my machine gun"--multiple times. Video From The Daily Show: mediamatters.org/blog/201105120003The Daily Show video also shows Bush honoring Johnny Cash.

...Others mocked the outrage being expressed. Conor Friedersdorf writes for Atlantic Wire: President George W. Bush once revealed some of his favorite illegally downloaded songs, including one with the lyrics, "Such a dirty mind/I always get it up/for the touch/of the younger kind." The disrespect shown the White House by such presidential preferences arguably reached its zenith during the tenure of Bill Clinton, when a man known for singing about cocaine--and shooting not a mere police officer, but a sheriff--performed a concert at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. ABC's Jake Tapper on Tuesday tweeted: "In The Jerk, @stevemartintogo juggled kittens. IS THIS WHAT THE WHITE HOUSE STANDS FOR?!?!" Actor and writer Steve Martin is one of the poets, singers and artists, along with Common, invited to Wednesday's "Evening of Poetry" at the White House. Additional guests include poets Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove and Kenneth Goldsmith, visual artist Alison Knowles, and singer-songwriters Aimee Mann and Jill Scott. news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/20110510/ts_yblog_theticket/palin-joins-those-balking-at-white-house-invite-to-rapper-common

My Sharona? Good beat. Never listened to the lyrics. Nasty little teeny boppers! Just curious, do you think the mockery over these types of "missteps" should stop at Obama?

Looked for a bad decision by Obama thread, and here one is!!! www.theblaze.com/stories/revealed-obama-calls-cnns-fareed-zakaria-for-wisdom-advice/REVEALED: OBAMA CALLS CNN‘S FAREED ZAKARIA FOR ’WISDOM & ADVICE’ Posted on May 13, 2011 at 9:06am How would you feel if you knew the president regularly sought the advice of a magazine editor/columnist and TV host? It’s true. According to CNN, Obama has made a habit of seeking “wisdom and advice” from host Fareed Zakaria. In an interview with fellow CNN host Elliot Spitzer, Zakaria admitted Obama and he talk regularly about the Middle East and international policy, a point that Spitzer said makes his heart “warm:” More..., This sure is a star studded presidency..........

Well good heavens, krickitt, who the hell else is going to get advice about middle east policy from? His big sister, Valerie? He doesn't trust the military for advice obviously. Maybe when he forms his own domestic force he'll turn to them in these matters.
