SbS, if a particular weak interaction is mediated by emission of a virtual Z particle what is the order of magnitude of the range of interaction?

Is this like one of those Higgs Boson things?

Virgil Just said get the right answer and I'll give you a prize. He did not stipulate that the method of how one got the right answer mattered, which is why I tried asking Rovo directly for his favored poster to get that part of my answer. I don't know (yet) how to even do those methods Virgil listed.
Since Virgil did not say which methods were acceptable for getting the prize. The right answer should get the prize regardless of method.

OK. Here's a simpler problem for you, Deb. You have above average karma. Suppose we had a raffle draw on EE that worked as follows: - at the end of the month, each point of karma automatically buys its owner a ticket for the raffle. So for instance, your 267 karma would buy you 267 tickets.
- all tickets from all EEers are placed in a bucket and one ticket is selected at random
- the owner of that ticket wins a super grand prize
Suppose your goal is to win that grand prize. If I were to announce that everybody (including you) was going to be getting an extra twenty tickets each for the raffle (just because I think EEers are "great" ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ), would this a) help you to reach your goal, b) hinder you from reaching your goal, or c) not matter? Justify your answer. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) B) Hinder Let's suppose that there is only one other poster that has 1 karma for a total of 268. As of right now Deb has a 99.6269 percent chance of winning. If we were to give everyone 20 karma there would be a total of 308 outstanding. That would mean Deb has 287 karma or 93.1818 percent chance of winning. Just like a company issuing stock. A current stock holder would have to buy the same percentage of stock he/she already has to keep their ownership the same.

SBS: Take note of the fact that colleenz has admitted to 'd'ing it in the past. The indiscretion she's referring to (plus two more by other unnamed contributors to my brainteasers thread) was the reason I vetted your solution. Not all posters consider it "cheating". Whisk: Good to go! ![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/thumbs_up.gif) And your solution to "Deb's riddle" is also correct and (almost) properly justified. The language in your last sentence is a bit off. It should be "A current stock holder would have to buy stock proportionally to their current holdings to keep their ownership the same." I know that's what you meant. Deb: I think you may be more of a right-brained thinker. Here's a more creative challenge for you: find a comic on the Internet (I usually find that www.dilbert.com has some good templates on Sundays). Cut out all the text in the bubbles and replace it with a conversation between EE characters. Make it funny. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) colleenz: Dr. Pig is trying to hide the fact that the standard model (fundamental particle physics) is more tractable than people think it is.

Virgil, it would be unfair to give one poster an easy challenge and the rest of us your regular logic problem. It should be an even contest for all who take part, don't you think?

Four EE’ers were out drinking at a bar (yes just four – it was a slow night). They suddenly realized they had only seventeen minutes to catch the last bus home. The path to the bus stop is a narrow walkway that can only accommodate two people at a time. Unfortunately it is already dark, and they only have one flashlight. They need the flashlight to see the walkway.
As they are all in various stages of inebriation, they cannot walk at the same speed. Beer is pretty tanked, and it will take her ten minutes to cross the walkway. Swamp is half in the bag, and it will take her five minutes to make it there. SBS has had a few, and it will take her two minute to make the walk. Iggy was drinking water so she only needs one minute to walk to the bus stop.
Can they all catch the bus home, and if so how?

Since Iggy is going to take 1 minute she goes first. Following Iggy is the next fastest, which is SBS. SBS is followed by Swamp, who is followed by Beer.
Since Beer takes 10 minutes to walk the path, they will all make it to the stop in under 17 minutes.

SL - If Iggy goes first how does she get the flashlight back to SBS? Assume the flashlight only sheds enough light for two people at a time to see where they are going.

You tie them all together. They are EErs after all and probably have something (handcuffs, rope, etc) to do that with. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Iggy - How will you be able to hold the flashlight, when you are two-fisting the drinks? Your mouth? ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/tongue_smile.gif) And the answer is easy: Beer, Swamp and Iggy will go home with the gorgeous guy. No bus needed.
