![](http://us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/51_51.gif) They already did. Jocular Apple signed up using her Dell and somehow conned people into giving her 250 karma points while staring at rovo from afar. Colleen, with her love of Mr. Norris, admires the power of Moonbeam and due to her wit and informative nature, she shows 150 Karma on her HP computer. Beer's IBM shows that 50 karma is not enough considering her expressive style and love of penquins. Casual Doc, using an IMac, with 100 karma, hates animals and loves Virgil for his stand against snow leopards. Ratchets, who really only seems aggressive since he's in England, uses a touchsmart to keep in touch with SL and his 200 karma points ETA: Oh, yeah, that's how they signed up. Apple was first all the way down to last-joiner Ratchets.

The concept of logic and logical problem solving is lost on some people. More realistically, the logical thought process is totally alien to some. Likewise, anything artistic is alien to me. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

For purposes of the game it is apple per SBS. I didn't go thru the problem.

ROVO!!!!!
Not per SBS but in your experience which poster seems to like you the best/ are their favorite mod?
Are you Apple's?
HeY I'm trying the DIRECT approach here...however Virgil may find evidence to prove otherwise.

It does make a difference who likes you doesn't it?
No Clue within yourself as to who likes you?
Knock! Knock! Rovo... SBS likes you. DebMD likes you.

OK. Before I dish out the karma. SBS, did you: a) Solve the problem with a pen-and-paper approach, grids, some hard work and logical deduction. b) Solve the problem with a more "efficient" approach such as algebraic language theory. c) Program a solver (brute force or otherwise). or d) Reverse-engineer the isomorphism back to the original problem (which isn't all that difficult to do) and Google the complete problem solution. e) Plug the details of the problem into an online solver for logic problems of this type. If you arrived at your solution by means a, b, or c, then I congratulate you. If you arrived at your solution by means d or e however, you are coat-tailing ![](http://boards.msn.com/Themes/default/emoticons/48_48.gif) , which, though admirably efficient, entirely defeats the purpose of the puzzle. In this case, I will award you 5 karma, which is a reasonable reward for a coat-tailed solution.

a. Except I created a grid in Excel, not paper. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) I grew up doing these types of puzzles with my mom. I like the ol' fashioned way and it brings back some great memories. ETA: Ya know what, keep your karma. I don't need to prove anything to you and I don't appreciate that just because I solved the puzzle (no matter what way I did it), you want to change the prize.

I'd be asking anybody else the same question. It's a matter of fairness. And I'm not going to foot around the language.
You'll get 20 karma from me over the next week or so.
Congrats on solving the problem. And that's a genuine congrats. Einstein (the author of the original) boasted that only 2% of educated people would be able to solve it.

OK Virgillll
Give a simpler one so that even Lassie will offer an answer and even a simpler one for the special people like me.

OK. Here's a simpler problem for you, Deb. You have above average karma. Suppose we had a raffle draw on EE that worked as follows: - at the end of the month, each point of karma automatically buys its owner a ticket for the raffle. So for instance, your 267 karma would buy you 267 tickets.
- all tickets from all EEers are placed in a bucket and one ticket is selected at random
- the owner of that ticket wins a super grand prize
Suppose your goal is to win that grand prize. If I were to announce that everybody (including you) was going to be getting an extra twenty tickets each for the raffle (just because I think EEers are "great" ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ), would this a) help you to reach your goal, b) hinder you from reaching your goal, or c) not matter? Justify your answer. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

My answer is: b) hinder me from reaching my goal
I have only 267 tickets and there are a whoooole bunch of EEers with a whoooole bunch-o-karma So even if you gave me 20 extra tickets and them zero tickets...my odds of winning are still slim.
Now if you were to give me ALL their karma tickets and give them 20 extra tickets as before I think I'd stand a much better chance of winning.
ON SECOND THOUGHT
Even my above scenario does not give me the odds I'd like to have.
OK
My 267 karma tickets plus ALL the other EEers karma tickets without them getting any other extra karma tickets....yes, I think this is would be best.

Not fair Virgil ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) Karma to SBS and I will continue to hit you all week because Virgil is accusing you of tactics I usually pull. ;D Virgil - If you do not specify acceptable solution methods that is your fault - I would have "d"'ed it. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

![:-*](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/kiss.png) No worries, Colleen. I was in a pretty crappy mood yesterday and I solved the puzzle to get away from some things. Virgil's accusation of cheating just was one more unwanted straw. Maybe we are more educated than in the past, but I would bet anything that more than 2% of the EEers could solve that problem without googling, binging, etc. Like everything else in the world, it really wasn't that hard if you know how to do them.
